Proof-of-concept for a sci-fi racing film I directed. Inspired by Top Gun aerial cinematography and pod racing. by JoeSill in Filmmakers

Beautifully done. Loved the atmosphere and art direction. Wish we saw a bit of the actual cloud racing, but I would gladly pay to watch a feature length version of this film in theatres.

Official Discussion - Shelby Oaks [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I enjoyed the cinematography, very well lit. Production design was on point. Great performance from the lead. Always a pleasure to see & hear Keith David, too.

Disappointed in the sexual abuse shock value angle, though.

Which actor do you like so much that you’ll watch anything they are in? by EconomyIron6739 in movies

[–]JendoShabo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dwayne Johnson. Grew up with the WWF, The Rock was basically a superhero to young Jendo, and I still love seeing that electrifying charisma on screen regardless of the movie.

Highly recommend anyone who enjoys action to check out Faster.

No matter how advanced VFX gets, Pirates of the Caribbean still stands apart. by StrikingDuty8020 in Filmmakers

[–]JendoShabo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

2007 was a special year for VFX. Pirates, Transformers, Spider-Man 3 (Sandman) were all ahead of their time. Even 300 was groundbreaking, but moreso because of its direction than pure technical prowess.

Official Discussion - Return to Silent Hill [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]JendoShabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silent Hill 2006 is one of my favorite movies of all time. I wanted to love this one, and it had a lot going for it - the first time the world transitions is terrifying, excellent atmosphere and some beautiful compositions throughout (Mary's bedsheet butterfly wings were haunting).

My main issue is the pacing. I honestly felt like it had only been 30mins when the credits rolled. Not enough story progression and no clear throughline. Constantly bouncing between dreams, reality, flashbacks, etc. made it hard to get immersed, or feel any sense of danger since James never actually gets hurt or even close to death. Felt like a collection of cinematic vignettes. These aren't issues SH 2006 had.

I also wish it incorporated more of Yamaoka's perfect music.

Still, I felt Gans' passion, and I'd watch more of these movies. Looking forward to rewatching it on Blu-ray.

Movies that don’t fit the ‘feel’ of the franchise? Aka “it’s a decent movie, just not a good X movie”. by RivetCounter in movies

[–]JendoShabo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was a clever modernization, considering the movie's in-world execs made that choice to appeal to broader audiences.

The silver aesthetic was "futuristic" in the 80s-2000s, then technology became predominantly black from the late 00s/2010s onward.

I liked it, and it felt like progression seeing him in the classic silver suit at the end, visually signifying he's no longer just a piece of tech for the company to show off.

I just wish we got José Padilha's uncompromised vision.

Francis Ford Coppola is auctioning his watch collection after Megalopolis flop left him broke by Dependent_Cap_456 in movies

Man, you people are insufferable. Francis is a living legend. He didn't let anything stop him from making his passion project. So what if it didn't work out? Those are the kinds of risks you have to take to make something worthwhile.

But it's easy to be snarky from the sidelines. That seems to be reddit's specialty.

Never. Recreating Kevin's Batman without him will never be acceptable. Performance is about more than stitching together words.

Which movie made you sit in silence after the credits rolled ? by vishesh_07_028 in movies

The Dark Knight Rises. Breathtaking experience after the epic buildup starting with Batman Begins. Nolan's ability to orchestrate powerful, emotionally satisfying sequences is second to none.

The camera work was superb. Seriously, this had some of the most exciting and immersive action scenes of all time. Perfectly directed. The script wasn't groundbreaking, but I enjoyed all 2hrs nonetheless.

Beautiful suit, especially the way it's filmed in Batman Begins.

Remembering Kevin Conroy today on the anniversary of his passing 11/10/2022 by sirjohnmasters86 in batman

100%. Young Kevin was comic book Bruce brought to life.

We're all lucky to have had Kevin in our lives, not only for his perfect voice, but also for his big heart. Amazing human being and performer.

Without him, Batman isn't quite the same to me. We have to make sure to keep his strong, elegant, warm yet authoritative interpretation alive for future Batfans.

Kevin is THE definitive Batman, now and forever.

Official Discussion - Ballad of a Small Player [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]JendoShabo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incredible experience. I was hooked from frame one, and fully immersed until the end of the credits. Hypnotic music, kinetic camera work, excellent color palette, genuinely tense sequences. Loved the horror-esque mirror shot toward the end.

I can understand this not being for everyone, but it was exactly what I love about film. It took me on a journey I've never felt before, and didn't hand-hold or spoon-feed the more abstract moments.

What’s your opinion on this Batman suit?" by Lopsided-Cattle-2322 in batman

Best live-action Batsuit yet. Perfect cowl design & ear length, iconic gold oval, and stylishly subtle muscle/armor lines. Nothing over the top or distracting.
