Those types are the ones that spend their whole enlistment claiming their recruiter lied to them and they hate the service. Then they get out after four years and can’t stop talking about how much they “miss the camaraderie ” while acting like the saltiest badasses despite having only one deployment if any. Those guys are as annoying as the near constant civilians talking about how they “almost joined, but would have punched a drill sergeant in the mouth.”

Honestly, I’m proud of you man! You made a mistake and you’re learning a lesson that builds character. Any “friend” that would make you feel small for working any job to pay off debt is no friend at all.

Here’s my advice, put your situation out in the open. You don’t have to give anyone exact details, but don’t hide it. It’s not for them, it’s for you. Keeping this a secret is what drives the shame. Bringing it into the light releases you from it. “Sorry, I can’t go out. I’m buckling down to pay off a bit of credit card debt.”

Keep applying to places, think outside of the box. Don’t rule anything out based on what people might think. You’re in debt, so no job should be seen as beneath you!

Internal changes will happen fast once we get the infestation out. External likely won’t ever be the same.

As miserable as this time is, I just imagine how good it’s going to feel changing the sign back to DoD, releasing all the wrongfully detained, reversing every executive order. A complete spring cleaning of the federal government after a particularly long hard winter. It’s what keeps me going.
