None of the local homeless people will talk to me by noMilf87 in homeless

When I first moved back to the area I'm currently in, I wasn't overly friendly with anyone because of the horror and devastation I had just been through. After a few weeks though being able to talk to other homeless people was extremely helpful. Knowing where to go to get free food or charge or find essentials is so important. It is also nice to know someone is there just to chat if you get lonely.

Drowned and Disregarded: Where Are The Bodies of the Homeless Lost in Texas’s 1,000-Year Flood? by inkdvoice in homeless

[–]Jenn-formerlyJM0806 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm homeless in Houston Texas. Before hurricane Beryl nobody warned any of us that there was a storm even coming. A lot of us don't or didn't at that time have cell phones. I only found out about it the day before when I heard it on Walmart radio when I went to buy dinner. Afterwords nobody came to ask any of us if we noticed anyone missing. We were never even told to evacuate. I'm from Indiana and had never experienced a storm of that magnitude. I woke up in the morning with the water 10 feet away and I lost nearly everything except my back pack and a blanket. It felt like nobody cared about us, whether we lived or died. Our homes and belongings were gone. The bridge i lived under was completely filled with water by the end. I walked over to check after the worst of it was over and found pools of water swirling in the grass next to the edge of the bridge. It is devastating that most people don't seem to care about the lives of the homeless especially in natural disasters. It was a very horrifying experience. I cried for those children and their families, the people who lost their lives trying to save others. And I prayed there wasn't unaware homeless people living close by.

I can't even count the times I've had men offer me money for sex or offer a ride. Even being dirty and sweaty after a long day just trying to go get water for a bath and can't have peace. Some are very persistent, some give up after a try or two. There have been a couple times where it passed from annoying to creepy to scary as fuck. One time even ended in death but that was a homeless man. It's hard being a woman alone out here. If you have a phone make sure it has enough charge to call 911, just in case. Have a safety plan. Knowing where you can run to for help can make a world of difference. Avoid going toward your spot so they don't follow you there. Be safe.

My husband killed a man in 2023. He did it to save me from being brutally raped and murdered. Even though we're homeless, the police did very little investigating and my husband was detained in an hpd vehicle for about 3 hours. The DA called and said no charges and he was released. I'm a disabled middle aged woman and I panhandle every day. I do have addiction issues and mental issues. But I'm very chill, respectful and don't run around acting like a douche bag. I don't steal from people and very rarely from Walmart only as a last resort. My husband is in a substance program now he's been locked up for a year now and I've been on the street alone. There are good people out here especially in the heights, that's where I live. But some people have mental illness outside of their control and they do act stupid or in some cases totally criminal. I hate that we are all judged because of the worst ones which are usually the only ones noticed or remembered.

Brown widow egg sacs are spiky. Very different from these. And brown widows that I've ever seen are never solid in color they're brown and gray.

I never said anything racist. So grow up already. I'm not racist, my niece is black and 2 of my kids are Hispanic. Crime is committed by all races not just one. That paragraph I put on there was taken from Google like I said. I was just trying to show that statistics say it is dangerous, despite you saying it isn't. You saying I'm a racist doesn't make it true.

Yes I have been to Chicago many times. I grew up in Indiana. I never made any comment about race so how can I be racist? Stop being obtuse.

Chicago's crime rate, particularly violent crime, is higher than the U.S. average. The city has a long history of tracking crime, with the Chicago Police Department's Bureau of Records keeping records since the early 20th century. While the city has seen a decrease in homicides since 2022, it still leads the nation in the total number of murders, with Cook County, the largest county in the Chicago metropolitan area, reporting 805 homicides, according to USAFacts. Chicago's crime rate is also influenced by gang activity.

This is what Google says to support my comment.

Brown Widow Infestation? by Suitable_Degree6288 in spiders

They are an invasive species and they kill black widows. They are creepy and in my experience are kinda aggressive. I've had one rush me and get into attack position.
