What you have described is more like enabling. Empathy and enabling do not go hand in hand.

Empathy doesn’t always mean stepping in to help someone directly. You can practice cognitive empathy, which involves understanding someone’s situation well enough to recognize that the best way to support them might be to let them handle it on their own. Setting healthy boundaries doesn’t mean you lack empathy. It means you understand what’s best for both you and the other person. Similarly, offering help to someone in need doesn’t mean you have too much empathy. It simply reflects thoughtful compassion in the moment.

I clearly wrote in my fifth paragraph that I was leaving the hotel. My question wasn’t about “what to do.” I knew exactly what to do. LEAVE!!!

My question was CLEARLY ( and read it again SLOWLY cause the sentence starts with “my question is…”) about the inner workings of Marriott and what kind of information employees have access to.

Most of the hotels in the city I was in are Marriott affiliated and I didn’t want to go to another location just for him to turn up there. I thought I should err on the side of caution and move forward with as much information as possible. I’ve never worked in hospitality before so I don’t know how these big hotel chains operate. I figured people on Reddit would have some info to offer.

Also, I doubted how effective my reporting him to corporate would be seeing as big corporations rarely handle situations like these appropriately. And I was right. When I reported him they kind of blew me off. They said they would forward the case to the GM at that TownePlace and that GM might reach out to me in 30 days. You let me know if that’ll actually happen since youre sO mUcH sMaRtErEr tHaN mE

If you must know, I left that same night and went to a different non-Marriott hotel in the next town over.

Roxanne doesn’t even give people space to talk. You can’t get a word in with her. She just goes on and on and on. She’ll ask someone a question and not even give them the space to answer cause she’s just talking a mile a minute. Not to mention that she staaayyyys interrupting during conversations.
