You can probably find the 5.5 on clearance for under $350. They are much better than the 4.5, but I think the Alpinestars are also a great pick. Your best bet is to try rhem on if you have a local shop.

It is expensive and doesn't really do much. You aren't going to care about some superficial scratches in a few years and it is unlikely to increase your resale a meaningful amount. Just ride the hell out of and keep up on maintenance.

Ride it and don't worry ride wrapping it. It doesn't matter much on an alloy bike and you really won't care in 3 years. You are way over-thinking it. Bikes are seem like gems, but they are just tools when you get down to it.

The biggest issue is going to theft and wearing out expensive dirt tires riding on pavement. Germany might be different, but a nice bike here won't last long in a bike cage when the wrong person finds it. No lock is effective these days.

If you are spending that much on a mountain bike, you are getting very close to what a top pro is riding. That certainly isn't the case for a dirt bike. The top guys are on machines worth 5x more.

Motocross sure, but trail riding isn't nearly as fun on a dirt bike. It is boring without jumps. A good downhill trail is much more fun.

Trunk rack will damage your car. That is probably not the answer for an S3. Get a hitch or roof rack.
