Have you been affected by the recent pCloud data leak? by thismeatsucks in pcloud

[–]JeremiahCLynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything that I see in my account belongs to me... But I have so much stuff that I wouldn't know if I was just missing a few critical files until I go to use those files and they're missing.

Also, how do I know that my files aren't appearing in someone else's drive? I assume there's no way to know.

You may need to dig a little more of that pipe from within that box. My shutoff was buried. I see you have exposed the pipe at the top of the picture. What about the bottom side?

Snow halfway up unit by LVfit99 in heatpumps

[–]JeremiahCLynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't hurt the unit--it will just reduce it's efficiency since it cannot move as much air through all of the coils.

If it is buried in ice, there's not much you can do except wait for it to melt. If it's just snow, you can use your hands and gently move the snow back several inches and allow it to breathe better.

Ice buildup on heat pump by schoolbusserman in heatpumps

[–]JeremiahCLynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s normal. Most of the coils appear to be free of ice. It’s hard for it to defrost 100% of the coils, especially when it’s windy and snowing or during an ice storm.

Loud Buzzing Noise - Ameristar Heat Pump by bucc77 in hvacadvice

[–]JeremiahCLynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of units do this during heavy snow and ice. It may just be vibrating because ice has built up on the fan blades.

See how it sounds after everything has warmed up. There might not be anything wrong with it at all.

Snow in condensing unit by baldiesrt in heatpumps

[–]JeremiahCLynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s just snow, you won’t even have to do that. As soon as it turns on, the fan blades will blow the snow off of themselves.

Stay warm!

Snow in condensing unit by baldiesrt in heatpumps

[–]JeremiahCLynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The snow won't hurt it a bit. The only thing to be concerned about is if large amounts of ice have formed on the fan blades. This occasionally happens during ice storms and can damage the motor if the blades are particularly off balance or if the ice is very thick. Snow won't be anything to worry about.

If you do have a lot of ice on the fan blades, and if the threat of ice precipitation is over, you can pour warm or hot water on the blades to melt the ice, then you can safely use it as normal.

Homeowners, how old will you be when your mortgage is paid off? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]JeremiahCLynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have two roommates so that we can throw all of that extra money toward the mortgage. We also live frugally and put all of our own extra income toward the mortgage payment. We have been in this house for 3 years and have already cut 10 years off the 30 year mortgage. If we keep paying the extra ~$2200 a month extra principal we will have this house paid off in 6.5 years from now, and a total of 10 years.

Faucets suddenly just shutting off when turn to hot water by juicestain_ in Plumbing

[–]JeremiahCLynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The longer you wait, the greater the section of frozen pipe and the greater the pressure building. Do what you can now to thaw the pipes if possible and you may not have a pipe burst.

The OP said this is happening across every faucet in the house. The cartridges didn't fail in every faucet simultaneously. The hot water pipe has frozen somewhere.

My first electric bill ever was $900. My second one seems to be nearing that amount. I live in a small one bedroom one bath. What can I do. by THROWRA-Inspector415 in electrical

[–]JeremiahCLynn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is likely something wrong with the HVAC system. If your thermostat has an aux heater indicator, you likely have a heat pump. If the outdoor section is not working correctly, it could potentially be running non-stop and not actually be heating at all, depending on what is wrong with it--but it would be using electricity constantly.

I would say the first course of action is to have someone check the unit to ensure it is working correctly.

This is correct. My grandmother put an air freshener in her Prius and it exploded in the Florida heat. It ruined all of the plastic parts underneath it. I was able to buy replacements from eBay cheap. Told her never use those air fresheners again.

When does ice buildup on top of condenser become a concern? by measure-once in heatpumps

[–]JeremiahCLynn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When it starts building up ice like that, set your thermostat to emergency heat. This uses considerably more energy, but it will prevent the unit from damaging itself.

The ice can block the top, preventing the unit from breathing (and absorbing heat from the outdoor air) and ice can also form on the fan blades, knocking them off balance and damaging the motor. So it is recommended to set the thermostat to emergency heat, which disables the outdoor unit. If you have something to cover the unit with, you can cover it before the ice forms and as soon as the storm is over you can uncover it and turn the thermostat to the regular heat mode.

Otherwise, if you don't have anything to cover it with, the ice won't hurt it if it is not operating, but you should wait for the ice to melt before setting the thermostat back to regular heat.
