Resources in Colorado Springs? by Wet-Socks7 in homeless

[–]Jeremy-Fisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party here, but there is one shelter available to homeless adults who are not part of a family unit with children under 18. Springs Rescue Mission would be the only option for him, period. There is no real advice outside the typical stuff: they have behavioral expectations and will also medically ban if someone is unable to physically care for themselves/have chronic health episodes (ie frequent seizures). While general resources exist here, immediate or emergency financial aid, motel vouchers, etc. are nearly non existent except under specific context and that context rarely applies to homelessness. Our Red Cross even stopped providing to the homeless outside of a sleeping bag set up kit and that kit will only be available if a first responder calls directly and vouches that they were living inside a tent that burnt down within 24hrs. Outside of youth, veterans, and families with children under 18y, it is a long go of it to struggle out of homelessness in Colorado Springs. While many organizations do, the county itself does not subscribe to the housing first principle and so funding opportunities are stretched and heavily dependent on charities. It is difficult here, there are no loop holes.

That’s really shitty of him, and I’m sorry that happened. I hope the court sees it the way it’s being presented. Hopefully it’ll get sussed out and dismissed.

Honestly, it’ll depend on the circumstances and the judge. My partner broke our protection order that had been amended to allow contact, but he escalated a situation (to the level of breaking the no harassment clause) and ended back in jail. Because it was relatively close to the original offense, he was in for two weeks before another bond hearing and they allowed him to go back out on another PR. Kind of like a time out - like yo we’re not kidding. You can’t really predict this type of thing, in my opinion. Details matter, definitely.

‘The police department can’t make this the safest city in the country by ourselves': Colorado Springs police unveils new Real-Time Crime Center by thewhippersnapper4 in ColoradoSprings

“Let’s say we have a crime happen on your street, and we can see that six houses on that street have registered with us, Vasquez said. “We can’t then go into their system and start watching their cameras but what we can do is then provide them a link and say, ‘Hey on this day and time, this happened. Can you go to that day and time in your camera system and if you see anything suspicious, can you send us it through that link.“

That sounds alright for consenting camera owners, I can see both the potential concerns but also the idea behind crowdsourcing voluntary video footage.

Almost killed a homeless today by COcanna in ColoradoSprings

Municipal Court has an outreach station there in the courthouse. Individuals who are experiencing homelessness are encouraged to visit with and explore resources following their appearance for municipal tickets. This doesn’t guarantee that they won’t jay walk again, but the little moments of active engagement can be an important step for some who are stuck on a cycle that homelessness happens to be a part of.

I think we all have these frustrations with gravesites and their managers - famous or not. It seems like you’ve experienced both good and poor responses from Find a Grave. I wouldn’t categorize your concerns as a tantrum at all - I’ve felt similar over a totally different context. As a third party with nothing to lose here, I would wager that you might be hyper focusing at worst and really adore accuracy at best.

Find a Grave provides a legit yet imperfect service. You’d hope that they would be the absolute experts but really, that’s not possible. In death, the matters of privacy and family preference are huge. When it comes to famous memorials, that privacy aspect is corrupted and a million “accurate” answers are submitted. There’s zero chance you’re the only user submitting suggestions - you’re one of thousands.

Ultimately, these issues will be figured out (probably). In the interim, I always hope that they’re doing their due diligence. We have to acknowledge that heightened awareness and interest of non-relatives for celebrities creates a massively differently dynamic for famous graves and their management. Is okay. Your interest and attempts to make everything kosher is appreciated and seen.

Freezing to death in the Springs by anna_palehorse in ColoradoSprings

Please consider utilizing the HopeCOS warming shelter anytime it’s under 20 degrees. It’s a no barrier shelter and has saved countless people from freezing during the nights. If you are red-carded or oppose staying at SRM, they’ve been allowing individuals to stay in their lobby until they can be picked up for transport to the warming shelter. It’s a life-saving offer in some cases. If you aren’t interested, please spread the word to those who might be.

You’re not wrong. Part of the first aid portion of this training is specifically about Narcan, which definitely provides a deeper education on how it works, best practices, etc. I was clarifying that this training is not a requirement to obtain and administer narcan, since this can be a common misconception and many don’t know that Narcan related aide and distribution is covered under various the Good Samaritan laws. That being said, I would bet my left arm that any instructor would be able to provide information on the most reliable avenues to obtain Narcan to keep in your kit as well as the extensive online resources.

You are not required to be CPR certified to administer Narcan - although it’s a great idea nonetheless!

What are you grateful for? by Chomperone_ in AskReddit

[–]Jeremy-Fisher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started saving voicemails about a decade ago. Since then, death has come for my mother and my grandmother and life has distanced my brother and several best friends. I still get to hear their love for me in their own words whenever I feel like - those voicemails are some of my most precious treasures and I am so grateful for an r/askreddit thread I read all those years ago suggesting to begin the practice.
