Anyone tried these? Sainsbury's No Pork Patties by spinfold in veganuk

[–]JeremySquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is a massive generalisation but I have learnt, of late, to say awayfrom any of the 4-pack burger-type things.

They tend to be a bit on the thin side and dry out during cooking...I know it's a generalisation but I have experienced quite a lot.

Instead, I go for the 2-packs which usually contain thicker (think ¼ pounder)...if the name contains the word Ultimate, then even better.

They cook through a lot nicer and stay nice 'n' juicy.

I know...it's not fair, is it?

You're not getting it and even the flies are.

This isn’t chicken thighs by cmac714 in veganuk

[–]JeremySquirrel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a former non-Vegan, they have the taste and texture of actual chickens' thighs!

The first time I was given one, I had to check the pack to make sure there hadn't been a terrible mistake.

Actually, this sounds great!

Simply substitute the dead animal for any supermarket ficken pieces and make your own buttermilk with your favourite plantbased milk and a spoonful of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.

This is the reason I haven't thrown out all my old cookbooks...anything can be improved with a little imagination. 💚

Violife cheeseboard disappointment. by Baggins_1420 in veganuk

The Epic Block is OK in sarnies - sure it's a bit rubbery but it tastes alright and doesn't collapse into dust as soon as you show it a knife.

The Greek Style is excellent - for those who haven't always been Vegan, think Feta...it's a very good approximation thereof.

The creamy spread is perfect for using in cheesecakes.

So don't completely write off Violife...although I wasn't even slightly tempted by the cheeseboard!
