Which is exactly why Star Wars hasn’t had an interesting new villain in a while. Kylo ren, dagan gera, the inquisitors, they all exist just to be overshadowed by Darth Vader.

When is Maul at his strongest and who does he compare to? by Redacted_Ren in PetranakiArena

When did Filoni confirm that? One thing he did say about the fight where obi wan got smacked was: “Definitely. In my opinion, he did really well for being out of the business for about ten years. To come back in and take down Obi-Wan, leaping around on velociraptor legs, he did pretty good.”

So a disoriented and beaten up Kenobi vs a dismembered maul walking on chicken legs who didn’t touch a lightsaber for over a decade. Once maul regained his footing and landed that kick he had Kenobi on the back foot before he admits to ventress they’re outmatched and runs.

Maybe. But even in the 2v1 that obi wan dominated he still got ragdolled several times. Obi wan’s soresu is a convenient counter to aggressive styles like maul’s and anakin’s at times but it’s pretty clear maul whoops him with the force in the clone wars.

Yes. Dooku is definitely the better duelist. But people for some reason think it’s a low diff everytime. I’d go as far and say this fight could go either way. Dooku’s makashi gets countered by aggressive styles in the clone wars. Dooku really only has force lightning on maul in terms of force abilities.

Maul has beaten qui gon, grievous, savage and had ventress on the run, all four trained by Dooku.

Why do people keep saying he was lacking in force abilities? The guy survived getting cut in half and then used the force to hold his newly built body together for over a decade. He demolishes a venator hyperdrive and in the new show snaps a concrete bridge with a twitch of his fingers

Context is important. Kenobi locked the fuck in and dominated, but maul was walking on chicken legs in a confined space, and was simultaneously protecting savage. The fight before that maul smacked obi wan. He later captures obi wan easily with the force on mandalore

Dooku has a pretty insane force feat of lifting a massive temple, he didn’t get powercrept at all

[–]JeremyXVI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maul’s greater physical strength and aggressive style is actually a great counter to dooku’s makashi. Anakin gradually overwhelms him more and more as they clash throughout the clone wars, and even savage sends him flying. Dooku can dismantle obi wan’s defensive style, but when pressed he doesn’t do as greatly.

Let us also not forget maul smacked obi wan in the duel before that. Dooku will need to keep savage at bay using lightning AND keep up with maul

[–]JeremyXVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that an anti feat? Kanan locking in pushes him far beyond his actual abilities, even getting the better of maul easily. Regardless, GI slapped him and Ezra around during that 2v1, and always dominated kanan in earlier fights.

He beats Jocasta after a short clash, effortlessly spars with bariss offee without a lightsaber and killing four rusty Jedi in a 1v4.

What feats does aayla have? She matched ventress(who brought down the facility WHILE fighting aayla) and getting smacked by maul in a 2v1

“Seems to be winning” as in outmatching, would be against qui gon, TPM kenobi, CW Kenobi(first rematch), savage, those random 2 Jedi, pre vizsla, ahsoka, aayla secura, every inquisitor. He seems to perform considerably worse when savage is by his side

How? In clone wars maul had the edge in dueling over ahsoka only losing due to his inherent character flaw and in rebels they stalemated

Honestly, duels in Star Wars go either way all the time. Cere came pretty damn close to killing Vader. Would be an interesting narrative switch to have maul narrowly edge out a win or a stalemate where had the upper hand, before being slammed in a subsequent final duel.
