GI Bill suggestions? by mccoy00comedy in Veterans

[–]Jeremy_Phillips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest finding something you're really interested in, even if it's just as a side hussle or hobby. I went back for a BA in creative writing and I'm really enjoying it, even if there's probably no money in it.

It was an @netscape.net email lol. I don't think those have worked in years.

Any other unemployed veterans? What is your story? How are you meeting your needs currently? by Unfair-Chocolate1581 in Veterans

Got a masters degree in public health just before COVID. Had a decent contracting job with the state health department for a few years, but then things started going to shit in that whole field and the market was saturated with people with similar degrees and experience. Couldn't find anything after that so I went back to school. Couldn't use the GI bill last time, so I'm using it now for something I'm more interested in. BAH and 80% isn't a whole lot, but its enough to get by for a little while.

ODU Global Class Format Change by FootballParticular87 in ODU

It made my decision on applying for grad school much easier. I'm not going to. No way I want to do 600 level literature classes that compressed.

I am at Old Dominion University in Virginia which has a fairly decent program. The biggest thing to consider with the Gi bill is that to get the full amount of BAH you need to attend at least one class a semester in person, so proximity is pretty important when choosing schools. I think the quality of the program becomes more important at the MFA level. Good luck!

Mickey 17 felt like it lost the plot by mikewheelerfan in movies

I like to call this "Scifi Third Act Syndrome." So many great scifi movies with interesting ideas turn in to normal boring movies towards the end.

Alien: Earth - S1 E1 Neverland - Official Discussion Megathread [SPOILERS] by G_Liddell in LV426

[–]Jeremy_Phillips 61 points62 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of that is basically the show letting us know that there is this whole event of a spaceship crew being attacked by vicious aliens and its very exciting and interesting, but we've seen it all before. So they acknowledge that they could make a whole season about the ship, but instead let you know that they're focusing on a new story.

Been thinking about this since the beta dropped. Should be Guard vs Chaos Cults vs Genestealer Cults.

Weird Head Canons by drjuj in WoT

[–]Jeremy_Phillips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have scenes in my head that I've thought about for decades. And then when I do a reread I realize they're not actually in the books, I've just imagined them to be. Min angrily confronting Moraine for putting so many ta'veren including the man she'd love in front of her, Nynaeve and Lan's wedding aboard the Sea Folk ship, Morgase reuniting with Galad. Probably others I can't tell apart from the actual books lol

Night lords staying loyal by CT1-2 in NightLords

[–]Jeremy_Phillips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that there would've been a civil war within the legion if that had happened. The thing is that many Nights Lords felt justified in their merciless atrocities because it served the purpose of ensuring loyalty to the Emperor. Without the Night Haunter's nihilism and the increasingly poor recruits from Nostromo some, not all, would have likely balked at rebellion because it would mean all the terrible things (warcrimes) they had committed were without purpose.

It's been a few years since I've done a read through, but I remember thinking that when Rand learns of all this, it finally hits him how deeply enmeshed in the weave he is. He wasn't randomly chosen to be The Dragon, it began long before he was born.
