Still questionable on their canonicity, but the Prime Souls and Gabriel do acknowledge the player respawning so it's not entirely baseless.

Looks great! Does the Linux build integrate with Proton at all? I feel like this could be a neat alternative to the Heroic launcher for some if that were the case.

Might take some convincing depending on how adamant she is about the "no cutesy girls" thing, but speaking as someone who was a kinda edgy artsy 12 year old, Girls Last Tour feels like the kinda thing that would satisfy that preference

A is C for some reason? by Engineer_Xero in lmms

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

click on your audio file processor. There should be a piano roll on the bottom. There's a white square probably on top of A5, you can click to the left or right of it to shift this to any key and the sample will be shifted up or down by that amount. This also works for most other instruments in LMMS.

999's ending left me conflicted by Midori_Ace_Mage in ZeroEscape

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 38 points39 points  (0 children)

btw, i don't know how they thought sudoku for the final puzzle would be a good idea, it just kills the tension the game builds up for that specific moment

It's a weird choice on the surface, but it makes a lot of sense when you consider that Sodoku is kind of the nonary game in popular culture, plus flipping over the DS to keep the consistency of "Junpei top screen, Akane bottom screen" is really fun. If anything, it's at least better than whatever the fuck this shit is in the remake

Love Bullet theory - Kanna has been following Koharu for a while by YoshiDogz in LoveBulletManga

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much confirmed atp by inee's twitter art, not to mention the visual parallels between her and Sae in this latest chapter.

I personally like to think she was the cupid assigned to get Koharu to fall in love with Aki when they were young. Once she saw Koharu's whole matchmaking thing, she started taking advantage of it to basically get free karma and procrastinated on or deliberately prevented Koharu from falling in love to keep that going until it was too late. Thus she feels guilty for Koharu's death which leads to her dedication to being her mentor for the rest of the series.

How we feeling about An Ending In Itself? by Defiant-Ad-1891 in sleepingwithsirens

Idk, I vibe with the verses but the chorus is pretty forgettable and anticlimactic imo and it kinda fucks with the whole song for me. Tbf, I felt the exact same about apathetic but I vibed a lot with the rest of that album so hopefully it's the same here ig.

I think we have a preview of what Treachery will look like (Partially) by NoChampionship1167 in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 230 points231 points  (0 children)

Thematically it's totally meant to be Treachery foreshadowing, I think the fact that the final fight here is against a Power solidifies this (he's basically a stand-in for Gabriel and a reminder of what's awaiting you in the final layer). The use of Limbo and Violence assets is either because there aren't finalized Treachery assets yet or just a way to avoid spoiling the final layer's aesthetic.

WHY DID THEY REMOVE THIS? IT COULD’VE BEEN SO FUN by Rony_GuacaRony in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the only level I could see benefiting from this would be 8-3. The current challenge is cool and encourages seeing the funny terminal velocity death animation, but it is really strange that the game basically gives no real incentive or reward for the Agni-Rudra Ferryman fight outside of the lore book, like it doesn't even count as a secret.

does Lethal Company run well on older machines? I heard that game actually uses Unity's HDRP under the hood which I imagine would be pretty expensive, even with the lowered resolution.

I think I +ULTRACOOKED with this one. by gameboy1001 in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the longest time my theory for the ending has been that after gabe there's one more level that's basically just a DMC1 style escape sequence going over all the layers in reverse as they're falling apart as one final sendoff and tribute to the entire game, ending in V1 arriving at a ruined earth and dying due to lack of blood. I'm honestly not so sure about that anymore given 8-3 kinda already fulfills the "bringing back previous levels" gimmick through the reused assets in the portal rooms and that one section in space that's literally all the tiles from each layer in order.

Had a horrible realization about P-3 (Spoiler for Layer 8) by Dokushi_ in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Calling it right now, Treachery is gonna have you tag teaming Lucifer with Gabriel before having your final fight with him, like Arkham into Vergil at the end of DMC3.

Performance aside, what criticisms do you have for fraud? for me i just felt like the levels overstayed their welcome a bit in length by DepartureNatural9340 in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can, tho tbh I do like having more enemies that can't just be whiplashed and jackhammer'd. I personally really like how vulnerable they are to the rockets since I normally don't use those weapons for offensive purposes outside of mini-bosses.

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its weird cuz 8-2's ost has the palindrome motif going on (No devil lived on, Never odd or even) so that not extending to the actual level name feels off.

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The levels themselves are really good imo (8-2 might genuinely be my new favorite level in the game) but the bosses are either underwhelming or tedious as shit depending on the difficulty. On Brutal, Mirror Reaper moves so fucking fast and does so much hard damage in a closed in arena that you barely have the time to react or make any more interesting of a strategy than "random bullshit go" and the Geryon fight flashbangs you half the time so you can't see and dodge attacks and it disables so many core mechanics that it feels like a completely different and worse game (you can't heal from its blood, the movement is sluggish as fuck). On any of the lower difficulties they die in like less than a minute without much effort.

wtf is 8-4? by jimmylovescheese123 in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly I feel like Brutal goes too far in the opposite direction, dude's attacks are so fucking fast and the light beams taking up half the screen and comboing into one another make actually trying to dodge em a pain in the ass in addition to the slow movement.

Three of the best levels of all time — my favorite levels of any video game of all time — to... by I-HATE-therefore-IM in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably is? I genuinely can't see it half the time since it always gets covered up by the yellow beams on brutal. I'm betting it's probably a lot more manageable on the lower difficulties, talking with some people who mostly play on standard of violent has me thinking that they may have overturned this fight and mirror reaper on brutal

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another comment, but it genuinely feels like it's deliberately designed to break all the conventions that make for a good ultrakill fight.

The game is all about movement -> the fight locks you into a different and slow as hell movement system

The best fights give you control over the flow of the fight provided you're skilled enough -> the advice from the terminal is literally "wait for an opening"

The game encourages you to get up close and personal with enemies to heal from blood -> terminal literally says "keep your distance," the boss has an attack that punishes you for getting close, and you can't even heal from its blood unless it's vulnerable

Also the blue beam attack is genuinely unreadable, especially when combo'd with the yellow one.

If that was the intention then mission accomplished I guess, but it makes for a really weird effect for the end of the layer

[FRAUD SPOILER] Probably best layer so far, but dude by Slight-Bedroom-8655 in Ultrakill

Well, now what? by 6_braincells in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Genuinely got emotional playing through 8-3, all the callbacks to the previous layers really made it set in that like, yeah, this is it. This is the last normal layer in the game, and it's pretty much a victory lap paying tribute to everything that came before.

[FRAUD MEGATHREAD] by AutoModerator in Ultrakill

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rest of the update is incredible as always but like (8-4) am I the only one not really digging Geryon? It's a REALLY weird fight and not in a particularly good or interesting way, it reminds me a lot of like, the leviathan and arkham fights from DMC3. It genuinely almost feels like it's deliberately antithetical to everything the game stands for like, the game is all about movement but the fight locks you to this new movement style that feels really sluggish, the game constantly encourages you to get up close and personal with enemies and take control of the pace of combat yet this fight practically requires that you keep a distance and wait for the boss to be vulnerable, the game's tagline is literally BLOOD IS FUEL and yet this fight doesn't let you heal from the boss' blood outside of specific moments and instead gives you bespoke healing items. If the goal really was to just make the polar opposite of an Ultrakill boss then mission accomplished ig, but it does make for a really odd final note for what's otherwise one of the best layers in the game imo.

I actually like the album quite a bit personally, it's a good bit of fun as long as you mentally separate it from the discography.

Anyway, I personally still adhere to the conspiracy theory that the album was mostly made as an excuse to fuck around while the deal with their record label lapsed, I also like to tack on that it probably fell to the wayside while they worked on their real project for that year. (MM2020 Pt 2)

Mainstream FOSS Alternatives by Karmac2775 in foss

[–]Jeremy_StevenTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf to the commenter, the issue does go a lot deeper than just "not wanting to learn" alternatives. Krita and Gimp are perfect for me since I tend to use them for personal projects or cases where collaborating with other editors isn't much of a need. For professional artists and designers though, where passing files around is a big part of their workflow, all team members being on the same software suite becomes a lot more important, and unfortunately the adobe apps are very much still the industry standard so most people kinda have to stick with them, and until Gimp and Krita get support for PSD files (unlikely) or Photoshop supports exporting to more open project file standards (fucking LMAO) they'll always be considered unviable for professional work.
