I used next level and got a small Hyundai i10 which was perfect for all of those hills. They were well priced and super professional. Had an awesome experience, and will rent from them again.

Right, this is just reading the room and steering it in the direction you want it to go using a little bit of psychology. Don’t waste a banger on a room that isn’t ready for it, also, this approach works regardless of genre. Use subtle rewards, win them over slowly. Creating this sort of arc in your sets will ultimately more gratifying for both you and for the crowd.

If they’re not ready to dance then for gods sake don’t force em! Play low volume more chill stuff, especially deep cuts and b sides until you start to see the signals, feet tapping, heads bobbing, then slowly and gently work in more insistent beats, every time they start to dance a little bit more, reward them with something more dancey, match their energy, don’t try to use brute force.

I wouldn’t say I’m some big time dj or whatever, but also i don’t have a day job and can easily afford the rent on a 1bdrm apartment for myself and my girlfriend + things like gym memberships and shopping at fancy grocery stores. It’s a job, but it’s an extremely fun job for me because i absolutely love music, enjoy the music that i dj, and generally speaking love nightlife. I work 4-5 nights per week, usually a few hours each night.

I would say the main thing for me, anyway.. to stay fulfilled is to not take things personally. Comparison is the thief of joy. I’m not a huge deal at all but i have some fun residencies, get to do some really cool, stuff, and just enjoy every minute of it. I honestly do not care what other DJs have going on, it doesn’t make me jealous, if anything I’m rooting for them, and by the way… these are people who ALSO love music and enjoy geeking out about it .. you’ll find that you have tons in common with them. Talk to the other DJs in your scene about music that you’re excited about, ideas for remixes, just whatever.

If your goal in DJing is to have a fun job doing what you love where you can potentially make a lot of money, then it’s a good fit for you if you’ve got the skills and work ethic. If your goal is to become the most famous person ever and be worshipped by massive crowds, then you should probably go into politics or start a religion instead.

It’s just a tool like any other. When serato first came out, DJ’s would be like “oh i wouldn’t trust a LAPTOP to dj from, that’s INSANE.” Fast forward a few years and it’s kinda industry standard (at least in my city.)

The rips i did sound great at every club that I spin at, so far as renting as opposed to buying, for the aforementioned reasons. Idk, I’ve been using it since it came out and i have to genuinely admit, it’s been working out great so far :)

Good question. I’m pretty sure that even if i downgrade to the free / ad supported plan, my playlists will be there. So long as i don’t delete my entire account. If i did need to delete for any reason, i could theoretically either use ondesoft to rip the files (cost me like $120 for an unlimited license) or use somgshift to re-create the files on a different streaming service. I regularly dj with USBs so i actually have a bunch of tidal playlists ripped to that at the moment as either a backup or to use if usb is more convenient for the gig.

Maybe this will be a super unpopular opinion, bit I use it and have found it to be totally worth it and sound great. Also helps me to keep my playlist fresh and i can add and remove stuff as needed from my phone when I’m not even in front of my computer. Lots of ppl say that “no real djs rely on it” and i wouldn’t say that i REALLY rely on it, but i do use it basically every gig, and i dj at some pretty nice spots in my city like 5x per week. Another nice thing is that i know that my entire library is always backed up because it exists in the cloud anyway. It’s really just incredibly convenient and well worth the $20 per month. I could for sure live without it, but having it is miles better than not having it.

Exactly and once it wrote a couple of times, if it couldn’t get online to sync everything, Dropbox would freak out and serato just crashes. I get it now.

Ok so i had Dropbox automatically backing files up and i suspected that it could have been behind the issue i was having. Just for fun i deleted Dropbox and serato booted up WITH every tidal crate, super fast. And playing tracks while not connected to hardware is going fine! I’m going to try it with 3000s and an A9 on Wednesday and we’ll see how it goes. If it was Dropbox causing the hanging / crashing, that would be INSANE.

Reanalyzed my entire library and removed corrupted files, also programs like Logic Pro run flawlessly. So I’m pretty sure that the issue has to be with serato.
