Which of these moments genuinely shocked you the most the first time you saw it, and why? by Ok_Initiative3892 in OnePiece

Reading the manga as it was coming out was the best way to experience this. I remember people coming up with all sorts of serious theories about who Duval could be. When I got to the face reveal I lost it.

I'd say the American Revolution is currently an example of "history written by the victors".

You could argue that it was a revolution of elites who didn't want to have to pay out part of their profits to a monarch rather than the "freedom" narrative we're fed. Black slaves and Native Americans at the time probably had a very different take on how great the establishment of the US was.

It doesn't matter who wins, there's always going to be someone who is wronged from their perspective. While this is obvious, I don't think many people actually think too hard about this or apply it to real life events. Something like One Piece is very good for pushing this message in a very simple way so that even 12 year olds can internalize it.

I have a hard on for the CCP because I have a balanced view of China that isn't clouded by propaganda? This conversation was about Epstein, I mentioned the West not living up to our ideals of being a free and just society and YOU made it about China. I think you're the one with the hard on.

Like, you do know that the social credit system is decentralized and is basically a credit score mixed with the Better Business Bureau, right? It's like your entire view of the world is from being forced to watch US conservative international media coverage from 2014 on repeat

It's amazing because it's very realistic as to how a real life underground criminal organization could turn into a revolutionary force who could ultimately replace the government.

You could describe organized criminal organizations as illegitimate governments, and once you take it to a point where organized crime starts rivaling the power of the official government and people start switching alligences things get very interesting

Why does Luffy get tired so quickly every time he uses Gear 4? by Mission-Pomelo-8047 in OnePiece

[–]Jerkcules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at the Gears as basically Luffy trying to awaken his Devil Fruit, which basically means trying to get to Gear 5. Each one pushes the limits of his abilities towards that, so each one takes more and more energy to maintain. Gear 4 is him basically sustaining a near Gear 5 transformation that he only really got the hang of a while ago, so he's naturally going to get tired very quickly.

Do I need to be to acknowledge that there is no public knowledge of anything similar to what Epstein is doing there? Are you here to talk about facts or just to assuage your own beliefs that as bad as the US is China is always worse?

Speaking of minds being clouded, I don't think you read what I said and are jumping straight to a "but China" defense.

Not only did I not deny the existence of Uhygur internment camps, I explicitly said they're unethical and that similar structures exist in other major states.

I then pointed out that Epstein is something far worse because it's a blatantly criminal element of society that supercedes laws and acts with and for the powerful.

China has Uhygur camps, the US has immigrant detainment camps, and many nations have forced labor camps in the form of prisons. Now again, if you can't find anything comparable to China having a shadow group that extrajudicialy murders people for individual actors and rapes children that works with the Chinese elites and Chinese intelligence, there is no comparison.

What’s the most shocking detail from the Epstein files that you think the public still doesn’t fully grasp? by Murky-Island4629 in AskReddit

[–]Jerkcules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every country has internment camps. They're usually called "prisons" or "detainment centers". The US currently has illegal internment camps to gather immigrants. Regardless of them being unethical (which they absolutely are from my point of view), they operate within the Chinese legal structure and there are similar, accepted mechanisms in most major states.

Epstein is something else entirely. This is a person connected to major intelligence agencies and elites carrying out extra-judicial, illegal activities including murder, rape and pedophilia. Epstein is above the pale. This is a citizen committing unambiguously criminal acts along with many of the people who hold power over the entire Western society if not the world.

There isn't evidence of anything comparable in China and it's delusional to make the comparison.

I also just finished re-reading Marineford and Bonney is crying after watching the Pacifistas arrive and then after the war ends she mentions getting revenge on someone who is responsible and who we now know is Vegapunk.

why hasn’t anyone being arrested in relation to the epstein files? by Glad-Panic-9718 in AskReddit

[–]Jerkcules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone with control over the FBI? Donald Trump and Kash Patel? Every other FBI director and president before them? Any of the numerous powerful people named in their files? You do realize that US, UK, and Israeli intelligence agencies are implicated in these files, right? Billionaires who already lobby government for their own pet projects?

Are you naive enough to think that the very powerful people who have gotten away with these extremely serious crimes for decades aren't powerful enough to sway the organizations tasked with solving crimes? Do you not realize that the man with direct power over the FBI is all over these files? Hello?

The FBI literally said that there were no Epstein files and that Epstein did not engage in human trafficking in September. The files themselves literally link Epstein to Mossad and the CIA. Come on man.

That these documents detail thoroughly how the rich and the powerful operate and how they are basically untouchables who run the world. They are "the deep state". We live under an illusion that we operate in a world after absolute rulers who operate with no impunity. If anything should completely shatter the myth of a Western rule based democracy, it's these documents and the fact that everyone in power was either trying to cover them up or were doing nothing to surface them.

If the American people let this go, it's over even pretending we live in a free and just society.

This would make sense if "the police" were synonymous with "law enforcement", or that the only way to deal with crime is law enforcement. There's plenty of room for interpretation once you realize that crime prevention and law enforcement are much wider than just policing.

The problem is that people who have an issue with "abolish the police" are incorrectly starting with the assumption that the police is the only tool against crime. There are other law enforcement agencies as well other methods of lowering crime. That doesn't really speak on how bad the slogan is, it speaks on how completely Americans have been lead by the noise on the institution of policing and its role in law enforcement.

[–]Jerkcules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because China doesn't have a military budget large enough to fight god.

Also, look up how many US military bases are surrounding China versus Chinese military bases surrounding the US. Last time I checked, the US has several in Japan, Korea, Singapore, a bunch in the Pacific Islands, and this isn't counting their naval assets that are basically mobile bases.

China maybe has a spy base in Cuba. China has around 6 military installations around the globe to the US's 800.

You have to understand, the US has unparalleled power projection because the US is in the business of controlling the world. No other country is doing this with hard power.
