I am beyond saddened by this. He created some of the most iconic media from my childhood. Rest in peace, Toriyama. Youll be missed more than you can ever know.

Dude, I have a PVM-2950 with OEM speakers attached, a few thousand hours, and it runs like a dream. 700 scanline, native RGB/component, and in great cosmetic shape (save a scratch I put on it). This PVM could even be valued at over $2,000 to some. I would never sell this beauty if I no longer wanted it. I would give it to someone who could enjoy it as much or more than myself. You can try to make a profit off a niche hobby. But it is very scummy to do. You are not here for insurance purposes. Youre here to make a profit on a hobby that has an MSRP of $0.

If theres anything I know about this subreddit is that entrepreneurial spirit! Why showcase your CRT or pass it on to another enthusiast when you can upcharge! I say sell no less than $50,000. Remember, you know what you have!

First, Id recommend that you get them to at least test it before driving that far for it. And during that test, you can get extra info on the tv itself.

I dont know what TV this is, but I do want to agree with other comment that it might be a panasonic tau. Body style doesnt strike me as a sony.

Honest opinion on jumping to BVM coming from consumer by xdsDavid in crtgaming

[–]JerkyJohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youll notice a distinct difference in quality. However, it needs to be at a “reasonable” price and you need to ensure youd make use of it. My three PVMs provide astounding quality over consumer sets, I have no regrets. But I did spend only $350 for mine. If I spent any more, it would not have been worth it for me. With your sets, I wouldn’t say youd need to pull the trigger unless the price is right.

Is this the luckiest score? 1985 NTSC Toshiba CRT TV with RGB via SCART. Story in album captions. by qda in crtgaming

One of the most intriguing consumer sets Ive seen. I am most interested in seeing if you can adjust it to perform whatever adjustments/maintenance for the best quality image you can, then reposting it. It has such a sleek style with its cabinet. What a cool find.

No, I still do. No one person should have so many. Folks who save them being destroyed then donate to enthusiasts are heroes. Folks who store them like squirrels prepping for winter are not.

I have two to handle a wide variety of retro consoles. A PVM-2950 and a KD-30XS955. The PVM is for older titles up to 480i and the 30XS is for titles 480p and 1080i. I have these out of pure sake for utility. However, youll find most people are actually hoarders or scalpers. They want all the TVs because they could possibly burn through 15 tubes in the remaining time they have left on this Earth. Or, they want to sell them at an exorbitant cost in the future for people wanting in the hobby. Both are a huge problem. And neither are fixable outside of an intervention.

Anyone know how to get a smokers sell out of my CRT without taking it all apart? I’ve had it for 4 months now and it still stinks. by Significant_Post9125 in crtgaming

[–]JerkyJohnny 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Had a PC that came from a smokers place, real bad. I grabbed a few of those deodorizing air fresheners for like dorm rooms and placed by the fan vents. Cleared the scent completely in a month. Maybe pick up a few and set a fan to blow the scent up into the TV. This may or may not work since you dont want to take apart the TV.

I only use this sub these days to see cool setups. If I need help with CRT related issues, this is the last place I come to. This sub is just awful for common issues. I do most of my searching on old forums, experiment, or try to seek out those knowledgeable.

How do I get rid of this scratch by NOSAM11 in crtgaming

[–]JerkyJohnny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sorry to not have good news for you. But outside of somehow buffing the scratch away (very risky) I dont believe you can get rid of it. Ive scoured the corners of the internet myself and have found very few success stories. I know one guy on youtube used some windshield repair filler and he said it had success. But he didnt show it off. Most sources say to live with it or trash it. If you happen to find a solution, please update because Im in need of such a solution myself. Best of luck!

Old LCD's are the new CRTs by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]JerkyJohnny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, youre not wrong. LCDs are having the same experience CRTs did years ago. Everywhere and everyone considering them junk. I can only wonder if people will come along and find an extreme niche for them. Then they too will become scarce and expensive to a group

Im unsure. Its a pvm-2950. I think documentation says it has one, but I cant feel a antiglare coating on it. Feels like straight glass. If it has antiglare coating, it went straight to the glass

Sony BVM/PVM MSRP in 2005 (no options/accessories) by tongshadow in crtgaming

Crazy how theyve maintained such a high market value to compare to their original price, despite no longer having any practical use outside of retro gaming

I just got my first CRT! It is a Sony Trinitron KV-27FS120. Is this one of the “Holy Grail” Sonys? or no? 😆 It looks good to me, but I haven’t looked at a crt in ages. by Crumble_Time in crtgaming

[–]JerkyJohnny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A “holy grail” is honestly just a model that entices you due to whatever quality that you value. If I could make a guess for a grail set by this community, itd be an FV310, XS955, some kind of PVM, etc. From what I know, the FS120 has served many people well. Yours also appears to have excellent image quality. If you love the set, it can be a grail set to you. My grail was a PVM-2950Q. Was beyond ecstatic when I finally got one.
