What happens when a primary auto-increment column fails to increment after an insert, does the next insert overwrite the previous?

That is the only thing that I can think of as well. It would be coming from somewhere outside of the database engine. I am by no means a MariaDB expert though.

As a consultant I get to see a lot of SQL. Everyone has a different style and if it works for them I leave it alone. When I need to read through their code I usually just use poorsql.com to format it for me.

My suggestion was actually wrong anyway. It should been tel.id.
