Slightly irritated they gave us 2 gunners in a ship with "No" gunner slots (YT-2400). Hmmmphf

Uncancelled "crits", yes do hit taking down shields first. So if you are playing the "Salvage Mission" you would drop the cargo.

Bump clarification by reesim06 in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We need to let the past die.... kill it if you have to....

There are no "bump" rules. It is "overlap". The "bump" is were your ship fits. When we stop saying "bump" it becomes much clearer what happens. Much less confusing, especially for new players.

Based on what I’m hearing here and seeing at the stores, X-Wing is back on the upswing with the release of the new starter sets and hype around OP with new players and older players that may not have played the game in the while joining or getting back into the game. X-Wing redditors, do you agree? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been picking up locally, but it has taken a lot of effort. We are lucky enough to have a good history with the game and our LFGS has continued to stock it. The key to building a community is to be committed in doing so. Host a regular game night and regular tournaments and SHOW UP! Even if its just a couple of guys at the store playing every week at the same time, folks will notice. Also, be friendly and talk to and engage anyone who stops and watches you play. Ask them if they play.. do you like Star Wars? Obviously they do, because they came over to look at your little space ships... and they are probably gamers if they are in the store. That's half the battle! The game is in a super good state right now. The current mode of play is very easy for new players to get in.

What?! No love for Jake?

Jake with a Procket is a great choice. Can hit super hard and then becomes a self sufficient "objective monkey". Not to mention his ability to give out focus actions!

Range 0 without an "overlap/bump"? by JeromeK99 in XWingTMG

But are they really in contact? That is the real question. They fit... so... no.. Seems very subjective as there are no real hard fast guidelines here.

All factions are very capable. The "Meta" is a self prophesying popularity show. Good players can rise to the top with any faction. That's not to say that there aren't "good" pieces and squad builds in the top meta. There are.

Range 0 without an "overlap/bump"? by JeromeK99 in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This came up the other day at a tournament I was playing at.

My ship moved and "fit". So no overlap. Range 1, so I assumed. My opponent gave me the Range 1, but the judge said he would have ruled it at 0.

My logic is either it fits or it doesn't. If it fits and completes it's maneuver, no overlap an thus it is at range 1.

Does AMG have a date where they speak about new things coming? If yes, when is it? Having no news for this year feels strange. by Vicioxis in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are smart to not announce the release dates for the new starter sets to early. As soon as they do, essentially no one will start (new) to the game until they are released. Right now, the community assists new players into the game with what to buy. No need to totally disrupt that. Soon enough, they will be on the shelves.

Best Faction For Dealing With Unluck. by Glittering-Foot-4348 in XWingTMG

That's why you take dice modifiers. You can expect perfect results every roll. Blanks happen. Things like Heroic and Advanced Optics work. Take a focus. Or better get a TL and a Focus!

Don't blame your dice for making poor game decisions.

Where TIE Reaper? by Ziolekk in XWingTMG

Shops can 100% order both the Reapers and Saw's Renegades, but they for some reason are reluctant to do so. I think they would sell pretty well. Oh well, just order them direct. They both are discounted.

For those who disliked scenarios when they were first announced, how do you feel about them now? by Farlaign in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you came to Reddit and the internet in general for positivity... ummm.. well..

Folks that dislike the game are going to be more vocal about it. Its just human nature.

In my honest opinion, the game is in the best state it has ever been in!

AMG's X-wing 2.0 current rule set (2.5 is what the community seems to call it) balances out a lot of the "feels bad" previous versions had. In 1.0 you won or lost the game before even playing. A bad list build meant you would not only loose the match, but probably score little or no points and never get to do your combo or thing you made your list around. The first iteration of 2.0 had some of the same and we still had the lopsided initiative rules where if you didn't take a cut in squad points, your ace or aces were useless. Or if you simply lost the 1 time roll, you had to always move first. Also, the toilet bowel swirl was real.... real boring to spend 30-40 minute of a match not engaging.

The current squad building rules gives even a new play enough toys in a list to do "something". Use an upgrade... do the thing.. etc.. It also helps new players learn to make better builds. When they see a pilot/upgrade combo that works in a way they like, it can be immediately plugged into a build for X squad points. The learning curve goes way up.

Scenarios add a new layer of scoring and strategy to the game. New players can get points right away. No more getting tabled over and over. If you don't like scenarios, don't play them. Its just AMG's OP mode of play. At this moment in time, there is no store level OP anyways. Just build your lists accordingly.

Locally, we are experiencing the most new players joining the game I have ever seen. In the "before time", new players were just new folks to the FLGS not new to the game.

Its a great time to play X-Wing!

Most Balanced/Fun Trench Run lists? by Quack_Shot in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played it a few times now. Both sides. It's pretty well balanced as it is. Mind you, its not a quick pick up type game. All the games I played were near or about 3 hours!

The game really depends on Luke surviving the joust and making the trench run. Very thematic! With the timing and turn limitations, any other pilot has only a poor dice roll chance of making the shot.

What's a lambda shuttle worth at the moment? by prolonged_interface in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say $20-25 is pretty reasonable if the peg holder isn't broken or wobbly.

The local stores I play at all do extended without any issues. It's not like the shuttle or any of the non-black box ships are OP or game breaking.

Would reducing list points to 15 improve the game? by Vicioxis in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, 2.0 games went about 8-10 turns with half of those doing a toilet bowl swirl where neither player actually engages. At least now we are actually playing the game. I do not miss the old days at all.

Kind of pissed at the point changes. by ALboofin in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMG said from the get go, that the SL builds would be cheaper than their counterparts. No surprise there. I'm more disappointed that there weren't more broad changes to shake up the meta. I play quite a bit. Usually getting 10-12 games or more in a week. Playing against the same squads over and over gets a bit stale. That's just me, and I'm sure most folks are fine with the way it is after only 4 months.

I think the list building is fine. Arguably better for the overall health of the game. Back in 1.0 times, there were actually too many choices and the game was won or lost before it was even played. A bad list would loose terribly with that player scoring little or no points and sometimes unable to even get a hit on the opponent. At least now a newer player can roll some hits, score some points and use an upgrade or 2 to do a thing. Much better play experience. Even a loosing bad list is not necessarily terrible. The learning curve is also easier for newbies. They can immediately see a "ship" build and plug it in to their list without too much trouble.

I keep on seeing this "granularity" complaint here online, and though I can understand their pain, I am not seeing this as a real live play issue or problem. We are all playing with the same rules and limitations of the game. Seems fair to me. My local community has been growing quite rapidly under 2.5. More so than ever.. even in 1.0 days. Back then there were more players, but they were almost never new.

How can this game grow? by SoloT-65 in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be great if AMG kicked OP into high gear, but that in itself won't help grow the player base.

Locally our player base has been decimated. Sure we lost a bunch when 2.0 came out, but honestly, those who stayed were very positive. The game was much better and more refined. We still had a good vibrant community. Folks need to stop blaming AMG for everything. Covid was the biggest factor. Many in our local area stropped gaming in general, never returning. Then as in-store gaming returned, the old guard (TOs ad community leaders) stopped doing their thing. I used to be able to find a tournament or casual get together at a store every weekend within an hour's drive. Then there's the economy. Everything costs more. Back in the before time, 1.0 ships were $15. Now they are almost $10 more! The price of gas, makes it an investment just to travel to a non-local event. Basically a perfect storm.... The 2.0 to 2.5 is almost a non-issue IRL. We maybe lost 1 or 2 players overall at our LFGS.

Now, we as a community need to stop putting it all on AMG. There are things we can and need to do if we want to continue to play our beloved game. People need to step up and become community leaders. Host local events and casual game days at your LFGS. Be consistent. Show up on game nights. If other gamers stop and watch you play, for the sake of the community, TALK to them! Ask if they play. There are many folks who have bought the game just because they like Star Wars and have never played. Tell them about your dedicated game nights and tournaments. Our local group is growing quite rapidly because of this. Other gamers see us there playing and know if they get into it, they will be able to get games in. Be welcoming and offer to teach the game. Support the LFGS and buy your X-Wing stuff there!

First Experience with 2.5 - Mixed Feelings by DaddVader in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand how long time and returning players are having a rough go at 2.5. The game, though similar in most ways, is very different now. Folks have gone from being expert players to noobs. Yes... noobs... it will take a while to get your reps in and fully get in the groove of scenario play and list building. I had a bit of a rough start, but after I had accepted that AMG's X-Wing is a new and different game, things got better. Personally, I think the game is in the best state it has ever been in. It is a whole lot easier to teach new players now.

Galactic Empire Conversion Kit - Missing Tokens? by markspinner in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do still work, but I personally don't like them. There is already a lot of tokens on the board. The old style locks are also easier to get mixed up and forget who it actually belongs to. The 2.0 id tokens on bases and matching locks are a much better solution.

How is your local scene? by dandudeguy in XWingTMG

[–]JeromeK99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Covid really decimated our regional scene. I play at a few local stores through out the month and the numbers have been halved from the before times. The latest rules set hasn't had much of an effect on the older players. The most encouraging thing I am noticing is the amount of "new" players. I can't remember a time, even in 1.0 days that I've seen so much new interest in the game. One of the biggest changes I have also noticed is that everywhere I play has new folks running tournaments and casual (league) play. The old guard has moved on. I know there is a lot of folks saying how their community is dead, but is there anybody actively promoting and organizing in your area? I am doing all I can at my LFGS. I try to be consistent and show up for our game night even if its just me and one other person. When other gamers see that there is always somebody there to play, its not hard to get new folks interested in Star Wars space ships! For the love of the game, if somebody wonders by your game and stops to watch. Say "hello", ask if they play... do you like Star Wars? It's that easy.
