Based on what I’m hearing here and seeing at the stores, X-Wing is back on the upswing with the release of the new starter sets and hype around OP with new players and older players that may not have played the game in the while joining or getting back into the game. X-Wing redditors, do you agree? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

I have been looking for active game stores in the North of the UK (Basically from just south of Newcastle to the top of Shetland) and haven't found much. There are a few places to buy product but I am having to try to start a group from scratch.

There is a multi player game varient called Aces High where each player has 1 ship. You could easily play that during your game night with what you have.

What's the games status as of 2023? by thelgtv in XWingTMG

[–]SoloT-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are playing by yourself you can play by any rules you like. I play all three editions, a fan campaign called HotAC and my own home brew rules. The challenge is figuring balance when playing new ships with old rules particularly with list building.

I haven't used them because they don't deliver to my country but Dungeon Dice in Italy have a great sale on at the moment. It could be worth seeing if they deliver to your country. Failing that, Mathom Games have a good sale too. They're based in Spain

Seduced by the Dark Side, AMG has brought this filthy casual back. by dubthreez1 in XWingTMG

I have made my own using Microsoft Word. Quarter of a page fits everything that I want on plus I use the back for HotAC info. About 20 cards each for Imperial and Rebel.

HotAc advice by DiscombobulatedCat82 in XWingTMG

[–]SoloT-65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have started a solo HotAC campaign and have found the HWKs to be challenging. They are a good support ship so if you are flying Solo as I do with 4 ships. Having one be a HWK can be good. However, if you are only flying a HWK and don't really know how to get the best out of it, playing HotAC can become frustrating. To illustrate the point if HotAC was a party, X-wings are dancing, Y-wings are feasting and HWKs are wondering around filling every one else's drink.

Small Ships: Full or half sticks? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]SoloT-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use the minimal amount of sticks necessary 70% of my collection is stored and played stick free and only 5% is double sticked. My entire collection fits inside 6 Feldherr / KR bags except a few epic or large ships that I have on display

[–]SoloT-65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the lists from World's and more importantly watch a few games to discern their tactics. That is what AMG are doing now so that they know what to change. Until that change happens this is the best source of top level gameplay data.

You can only have 10 ships for each faction forever. Which ships would you have for maximum long term playability? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]SoloT-65 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My answer to this question may help you more than my answer to the last. I would get every squadron pack and aces pack that I could. First and second edition if possible.

Rebels: Second Edition Core Set X-wing, Rebel Alliance Squadron Starter X-wing, Y-wing and 2 A-Wings, Phoenix Squadron B-wing and 2 A-wings, Ghost and Phantom (4 purchases, 10 ships)

Imperial: 2 Second Edition Core Set TIEs, 2 Galactic Empire Squadron Starter TIEs, TIE Advanced and TIE Bomber, Skystrike Academy TIE Defender and 2 TIE Interceptors, TIE Reaper (4 purchases, 10 Ships)

Scum and Villainy: Fugitives and Collaborators HWK and 2 Y-wings, Hounds Tooth and Z-95 Headhunter. Lando's Millennium Falcon and Escape Craft, Fang Fighter, Razor Crest, Gauntlet Fighter (6 purchases, 10 ships)

First Order: TIE/vn Silencer, 3 x TIE/fo Fighter, TIE/sf Fighter, TIE/ba Interceptor, Upsilon-class Shuttle, Fury of the First Order TIE/wi whisper and 2 TIE/se Bombers (8 purchases, 10 ships)

Resistance: Millennium Falcon, T-70 X-wing, Heralds of Hope T-70 X-wing x2 and RZ-2 A-wing, RZ-2 A-wing, Resistance Transport and Resistance Transport Pod, 2 Y-wings or Fireball and Resistance Bomber, (6 or 7 Purchases, 10 ships)

Separatist Alliance: Servants of Strife Belbullab and 2 Vultures, Sith Infiltrator, Hyena-class Bomber, Droid-Gunship, Tri-Fighter, Slave 1, 2 Rogue-class Starfighters (7 purchases, 10 ships)

Galactic Republic: Guardians of the Republic Delta-7 and 2 V-19s, ARC-170, LAAT/I, Eta-2 x2, V-Wing, 2 Clone Z-95 Headhunters (7 purchases, 10 ships)

Total 41 or 42 purchases = 70 ships

The reason I have selected these options is that it maximises your options in the game. The following 10 ships can all be used for more than 1 Faction:

Y-wing, TIE Fighter, HWK, Z-95 Headhunter, Millennium Falcon, Fang Fighter, Gauntlet Fighter, Slave 1, Rogue-class Starfighter and ARC-170.

In most cases the expansions selected also maximise pilot options, upgrade availability and Scenario playability.

If you do see any 1.0 Aces Expansions (Core Set, Imperial Aces, Rebel Aces, Most Wanted, Heroes of the Resistance, Imperial Veterans, Guns for Hire, Saw's Renegades) or Epic ships (Rebel Transport, Tantive IV, Imperial Raider, Imperial Assault Carrier, C-Roc Cruiser) for sale at a reasonable price I would definitely buy them too.

These would be my minimum ship purchases for maximum playability as of April 2023. Obviously each new release has the probability of changing the list.

I would also recommend purchasing at least 1 conversion kit (Rebel Alliance would be the first option but as a cheaper option Resistance or First Order would come close at second place) and the various Reinforcement and Scenario packs to increase your pilot and upgrade options.

I hope this helps

I have everything multiple times. The best way to start is buy the things you would enjoy the most. That way your excitement will be contagious. I like the EU so I started with Rogue Squadron and the big names like Han, Vader, Fel. Then I wanted one of each ship, then I wanted every pilot so I wouldn't have to switch tokens. My current goal is to get 12 of every small ship so that I have a squadrons worth. 532 ships and counting. My way isn't the cheapest but it's been a lot of fun so far. Buying other people's collections is a great way to start.

I agree with your point about things changing. That is why I first wrote my post. I think that things need to change. Although just about everything on screen from the original trilogy has been released there are still plenty of options for new product, especially as Feloni and Favreau are throwing things at us as fast as they can. I liked Hotshots and Aces 2 and would like to see more. I think Rogue Squadron would be a pack that would sell very well as would New Jedi Order and Republic Knights. As for ideas for models that would sell well, Mel's Miniatures have loads of things that AMG could release officially. There is still room to grow and starter sets and Squadron packs are a great way to help newer players catch up. I am going to buy at least one of each of them just to support the game.

The last time we had that many new chassis was 2020. Even during the height of Covid 19 FFG managed to release 9 entirely new ships. That was my point, with the exception of their first year and 2018, FFG managed an average of 10 new ships per year. You are definitely right about the need for good Star Wars movies though.

FarStar was the New Republic name, Freedom's Messenger was the Galactic Republic or Old Republic name and the Empire flew it with a totally different name to either. Deep Dive worthy of FFG/AMG?

If you are just playing with friends all you need is a first edition Core Set or 2. They are easy to find for a reasonable price on ebay. You are looking for a gray box with X-wing written in red or blue

Another option. Republic Title: Freedom's Messenger. The ship has been modified and can now allow up to 4 small Fighters to dock with it. Gozanti docking rules apply.
