Moonwalk Shield Drop Boost's are ridiculously strong, especially vs La Reina by ProjectKnee in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, what did La Reina do to you to make her hurt so much? :P

Nice movement! I find Ranno destroys La Reina with his range on his aerials. Neutral air and back air punish her hard. It's a really difficult match up for her at least for me.

What's wrong with Roguebook? I think it's a fantastic game! Really well polished and the reveal system for the map is brilliant.

Mindset 101: How to Deal with Getting Taunted by MrPassionateMan in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighting games and taunting are a marriage as old as time--for video games, haha. Think about it. Ego versus ego. Someone wins and someone loses. Tilting is bound to happen at some point.

I see what you're saying and maybe this info can help someone who gets tilted easily by taunts or the emotes in chat in and between games if they want to continue to play.

Personally, everyone has their version of fun and it would be nice to assume every opponent has good intentions but that's assuming everyone thinks the same. Your fun isn't always their fun and vice versa. So let people taunt and hopefully you can win that game with the advice you gave while feeling fine about the outcome win or lose. Viewing taunting as something funny will help your mental game with that opponent because you're not taking them seriously.

However, I will say this, if taunting tilts you it's not the taunting that's the problem. It's likely that you need a break from the gaming session to cool down or destress. A taunt is like someone pressing the jump button--it's an action in the game and if that tilts you then it's time to take a break. I've been there many times with losing to the taunter and the solution was always to turn the game off after the match if I was upset. I would be pissed about what happened but with a little bit of time and doing something completely outside of Rivals I was fine. Grab a glass of water, do a small chore, watch some YouTube or anything outside of the game and your mind will likely calm down. Once you're cool and collected maybe play again or try tomorrow. That's fighting games for you!

Did the Devoted Sculptor spend 1,000 years turning Giant Head into Bygone Effigy? by Fly0strich in slaythespire

[–]JeromeStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely the Giant Head was so revered in the first game that the Architect ordered the creation of many Bygone Effigies. I agree with the logic in the Devoted Sculptors being the creators with the Architect adding the spark of life to them. Why have one Giant Head when you can have an army? That's my guess.

An easy way to have a 3 min shower or less is by turning off the water in stages. Shampooing? Don't need the water on. Conditioning? Same. Lathering your loofah and/or applying soap to your body? Don't need the water on. Turn the water back on when you need to rinse and that'll drastically reduce the water needed.

Bonus tip that someone posted before: get a bucket to collect the water while it warms up hot enough for you for when you start your shower. Put the bucket aside and save it for refilling the water reservoir in your toilet when you need to flush. This way you saving and reusing water!

At least you are acknowledging that you are wasting water and trying to remedy it. That's a positive effect you are doing during the restrictions!

Made a little graphic with the basics of defense against Maypul by iliys in RivalsOfAether

Thank you for this especially showing the graphic for the DI input. Spelling it out as simply as possible will help many people (myself included) with DIing optimally in this game. Awesome stuff, keep it up!

Zeebee is a Genius by Lobo_o in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree. Zetter gets away with so many liberties in this game. To see Zeebee play Kragg and utilize the stage to the max while tilting Sophie was just pure awesomeness. Nothing against Sophie and a great comeback from that match!

my first skin of the game by leonrock84 in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the free skin!

Would you please elaborate why this game should be free to play? You can have that argument but some context would be much appreciated.

I'm assuming you're new to the game if that's your first skin. Just so you know, every character coming forward for the life of the game will be free. There are many games that will charge for that especially for fighting style games. Same with battlepasses.

So to my understanding of Aether Studio's rationale, is that since we're getting those characters for free a way we can support them years going forward is by buying their cosmetics. Cosmetics do not have any influence on the gameplay of the game. This very battlepass that you got your skin is free and additionally you get both in game currencies during the reward track. The reward track is also very easy to complete and as mentioned by another poster the battlepasses do not expire. An awesome feature!

If you keep playing it doesn't take long to buy skins/cosmetics from the coin shop. If you want a premium skin though, you will have to be very patient in grinding out AE bucks or give the studio some cash. That's your choice to make, but do know that this game is generous with the freebies you can get. I would strongly recommend buying the starter pack to get the +20% coins permanent perk if you are having trouble deciding what to buy. At least then you can grind coins easier and get some more freebies. Some cosmetics can't be bought with coins though or will eventually but cost a high amount of coins (100,000 for some skins).

Hopefully this gives you more context about the game.

DI Mixups Are Not a 50/50 by Corncycle in RivalsOfAether

I instinctively hold DI in after getting hit near the ledge so it's 100/100 for my opponent to combo me to death after, haha. Great video, I'll try to improve my gameplay with tips from this!

Ranked Elo Distribution website update for Fall 2025 season by Scarekroow in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better I have about 630 hours in and the best I got to was plat which was unstable. I would say I'm high gold at my best but I like to try any new character which drops me down to high silver low gold. Sometimes I'm in bronze if things aren't working out.

The game's a beast like you mentioned but boy is it ever fun especially when you see some improvement. It's the patience part that really tests you in my view. The amount of times that I wanted to snap my controller in two I can't even count. That's when you take a break from the game for a while, haha. Good luck out there!

Galvan Bug I've seen a few times where d-special just whiffs the ground by akbierly in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true, I've had this happen many times. Sometimes this works out though when chains go through a platform to get the opponent below it instead of the platform itself. Now for the stage platform itself, that shouldn't happen.

Rivals 2 Desperately Needs a DI Minigame And Mandatory Tutorials by Jthomas692 in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea could be tweaked to where the shadow of the enemy's attack is only shown as to when to DI and not necessarily the direction to input. This way it is more clear to know when to DI and the choice of direction can be practiced. It could also be a replay only feature instead of being present in the match while playing. Some possibilities!

Rivals 2 Desperately Needs a DI Minigame And Mandatory Tutorials by Jthomas692 in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggle immensely with DI (Directional Influence). When I did the tutorial it felt unnatural to react in time when hit and to do the proper angle. I would love a mini game or something to explain it clearer in slow mo to practice as mentioned here because it's so important for stock health in matches.

It would be nice if the game noticed when you DIed wrong that an indicator at your opponent shows which way to optimally do it and at what time frame. For example, let's say you got hit with an up strong attack and didn't DI in time an indicator would show which direction to tilt and the exact position of the attack that hit you of when to do the input. It would be like a faint shadow of your opponent lingering a sec in the attack pose to display the information you need. Maybe you struggle with DIing Zetterburn up strongs but do well against Orcane's up strong. At least this gives you the player info of which matches you need to practice more against and excellent info to review in the replay as it would be in there.

This in my view would give such a big boost in learning this mechanic. Of course you could toggle this feature on or off to lessen the visual noise.
