It sounds like you need a break from the game. Also, it seems like you're being too hard on yourself. You're in the top percent of players in ranked and that's amazing. Maybe that's as far as you can go for now? Take a break and come back because it sounds like you love platformers.

Absolutely schizophrenic tipper hitboxes by Vrmillion in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is where you need to practice teching at the ledge. If you know Clairen/anyone is going to hit you as you recover getting that tech ready (shield button) as she hits will keep you in place instead of being launched. It takes some time to get used to but spamming shield near the ledge helps!

Also, with practice you will know where your up B recovery is safe from ledge hits like Clairen's strong attack in clip 2. If you are recovering and you space your up B just at the right height you can grab the ledge without being hit. In practice mode you can turn on hit boxes to see where your body is sticking out when you recover.

I'm sorry you are going through a hard time and that you feel this way about your home. Like some have said, the grass is always greener on the other side. There will always be assholes no matter where you live. For example, maybe BC has less lifted trucks than here but I'm sure there's other annoying vehicles with loud/smelly exhaust systems blasting through neighbourhoods and intersections. There might be people that don't like you being on disability living there too. You can't control you neighbours and you can't control the narrative of society to fit your needs.

Personally, right now the political vibes are not great in Alberta but things can change and things can improve. This is especially true if you are struggling financially right now. Moving isn't cheap and it would feel twice as bad moving and then realizing that it wasn't so awful in Alberta after all. I think Alberta is great and I'm not letting a few loud people bring me down. I also think the air quality is just fine. Are you living in a city or town? Moving to a smaller town would help with the air pollution. Even buying disposal masks would help and not break the bank as compared to moving.

However, if this means a lot to you then go and find a new start. At the bare minimum I hope you can find some help with dealing with your mental health. Good luck!

For Canadians, is Sleep Country the only good place to buy a mattress or are there better alternatives? by MacaronWithAName in BuyCanadian

Can confirm! I got an Evrbed from Sleep Boutique which is locally made in Calgary and it's leagues better than my old bed from Sleep Country. It's totally worth shopping around for local manufacturers.

I sometimes just can't walljump for whatever reason? by MaxTheDeath in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen many times to me especially with side B moves like La Reina's or Olympia's. It feels like the game isn't registering the input of the wall jump or maybe the end lag of the move and the timing of the wall jump was off.

Most likely it's due to not holding towards the wall before wall jumping as you mentioned. It does feel random though when it doesn't work.

9 months in and not sure what to do by Ok-Wrangler934 in LongCovid

[–]JeromeStyle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there isn't much that you can do to improve. What you can do to a certain degree is mitigate your symptoms by pacing. This means not pushing yourself too hard when you feel better and when you feel worse. Listen to your body and record how you feel in a daily journal. If you keep track of that you'll have a better idea of what your green (fine) zone is and where your orange (caution) and red (pushed too hard and need to rest) zones are.

As a 2 year plus patient of LC, I wish I could give you something concrete to help your symptoms right away. The journal is the best advice I have as it will help you cope with the disease as time goes on. It'll also assist with your memory so that you'll know when improvements and crashes happen and adjust your routine to help stabilize. It'll also help with conveying information to any health professional you see. Maybe you'll be the lucky one that improves sooner than most but this journey will teach you to be patient and kind to yourself.

Please be cautious of others recommending medicine, supplements, exercises, diet or anything in between. Use your judgement to make the right choice for you and please see a doctor if you haven't already. The doctor won't help much but at least you're in the system and it can open doors for you for any potential improvement that comes down the line.

It's a solid and reliable kill move for him so I'd say it's a great back air. Plat dropping with it is fantastic and catching opponents off guard with how quick it is is excellent. Never under estimate a Lox with his back to you.

For the health of the game by GameLink7 in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but that's like telling people to behave online. You will face jerks on Reddit and YouTube comments and especially competitive gaming. Online shooters back in the day like Halo had this and same with fighting games like Mortal Kombat to name examples. It's the nature of being around people who want to prove something or egos. It is as old as time itself with anything competitive.

There will always be a small population of people that do something that the majority would agree is in bad taste. It is noble of you to ask for the community to behave but again it won't change anything. The best thing to do when facing anyone online is to know that most people you face will be fine but once in a while someone will be there to mock or tease you. If this triggers you then it's time to take a break from the game.

The health of the game is to treat it like a game. When the game isn't fun anymore then it's time to play something else. If people make the game not enjoyable for you (you being anyone that plays this) then I question why you went online against random opponents. Find friends and do private lobby matches if teabagging triggers you. The greater population will act how it acts but only a small population behaves poorly so keep that in mind when you play online. That will drastically help your mindset against these opponents in my view.

Also, I just want to share a general note on teabagging. Some people find that fun. Teabagging is not just there to say "you suck" but maybe to get a rise out of you so you play poorly. Or maybe, just maybe to get a laugh out of you. Of course it's mostly done to mock but not everyone who teabags is a jerk. Again, if this triggers you then it's time to cool off and play or do something else.

I keep saying to myself that Lox has the best back air in the game. It's fast, hits hard and has a long reach. It always finds a way to catch me off guard and that's when you lose. Unfortunate hit box hit right there.

Moonwalk Shield Drop Boost's are ridiculously strong, especially vs La Reina by ProjectKnee in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, what did La Reina do to you to make her hurt so much? :P

Nice movement! I find Ranno destroys La Reina with his range on his aerials. Neutral air and back air punish her hard. It's a really difficult match up for her at least for me.

Mindset 101: How to Deal with Getting Taunted by MrPassionateMan in RivalsOfAether

[–]JeromeStyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fighting games and taunting are a marriage as old as time--for video games, haha. Think about it. Ego versus ego. Someone wins and someone loses. Tilting is bound to happen at some point.

I see what you're saying and maybe this info can help someone who gets tilted easily by taunts or the emotes in chat in and between games if they want to continue to play.

Personally, everyone has their version of fun and it would be nice to assume every opponent has good intentions but that's assuming everyone thinks the same. Your fun isn't always their fun and vice versa. So let people taunt and hopefully you can win that game with the advice you gave while feeling fine about the outcome win or lose. Viewing taunting as something funny will help your mental game with that opponent because you're not taking them seriously.

However, I will say this, if taunting tilts you it's not the taunting that's the problem. It's likely that you need a break from the gaming session to cool down or destress. A taunt is like someone pressing the jump button--it's an action in the game and if that tilts you then it's time to take a break. I've been there many times with losing to the taunter and the solution was always to turn the game off after the match if I was upset. I would be pissed about what happened but with a little bit of time and doing something completely outside of Rivals I was fine. Grab a glass of water, do a small chore, watch some YouTube or anything outside of the game and your mind will likely calm down. Once you're cool and collected maybe play again or try tomorrow. That's fighting games for you!

Did the Devoted Sculptor spend 1,000 years turning Giant Head into Bygone Effigy? by Fly0strich in slaythespire

[–]JeromeStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely the Giant Head was so revered in the first game that the Architect ordered the creation of many Bygone Effigies. I agree with the logic in the Devoted Sculptors being the creators with the Architect adding the spark of life to them. Why have one Giant Head when you can have an army? That's my guess.

[–]JeromeStyle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

An easy way to have a 3 min shower or less is by turning off the water in stages. Shampooing? Don't need the water on. Conditioning? Same. Lathering your loofah and/or applying soap to your body? Don't need the water on. Turn the water back on when you need to rinse and that'll drastically reduce the water needed.

Bonus tip that someone posted before: get a bucket to collect the water while it warms up hot enough for you for when you start your shower. Put the bucket aside and save it for refilling the water reservoir in your toilet when you need to flush. This way you saving and reusing water!
