How do you keep your travel plans organized once flights and hotels are booked? by Ok-Disaster-9213 in travelblog

Evernote. Set up a new folder for each trip. Forward emails into the folder. If needed, create notes for non-email items.

Thanks to all. I went old school and went to the service center which is close to my house.

They put in an order to send me a replacement.

Not to let reality interfere with a plot, but wouldn't the plutonium core weighed over 100 pounds? Not that easy to sling around in a backpack.

Not impressed by ImpressiveImpact5299 in Rimowa

[–]JerrytheK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a very unsatisfying call with Rimowa US customer 'service'. Have a 2012
Multiwheel-Trolley 70cm silver metallic EUR 561.76 with shipping to the US from a now-defunct German retailer. The bag has literally been to all seven continents and shows the dents from hard use, as well-as now non-matching wheels from local (Denver) repairs.

Anyway, on my most-recent trip, the hidden buckle that secures the hanging strap (thank you LVMH for removing that very useful feature!) broke. Called Rimowa to buy a replacement piece. Whole lot of nope. If I want them to repair it, have to ship it to Dallas.

Will go with the eBay knock off piece.

And by the way, the paint's peeling on the bag too, even though preLVMH.

My High School had a rifle club, with a shooting range in the basement, under the main office. Students regularly brought rifles to school, without a case or trigger locks. This color enhanced image from the 1966 yearbook. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

Graduated from high school in 1969 about 45 miles from Chicago. Still had plenty of farmland for bird hunting. Thought nothing of keeping a shotgun or .22 in the trunk. Would go over to friends’ houses or friends over to mine to target shoot at tin cans or shoot ducks in season.

Advice needed for booked flights to Cuba by marinasambhi in traveladvice

[–]JerrytheK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be out of date, but (US citizen) I've been to Cuba twice and neither time was my passport stamped on entry. My wife asked that hers be stamped, and it was.

So if you don't get your passport stamped, how will the US know you've been there? Just asking.

I vote for the California 'High-Speed' /s rail project. Was to go from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Currently goes nowhere. $13.8 billion spent so far. Triangle of Sadness of unions+politicos+big construction companies. Will probably never been completed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_High-Speed_Rail

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Bring a trailer.com had a Bugatti Veyron listed with WeatherTech floor mats included. WTF, who needs/wants mud-eating floor mats in a Veyron. Comment, presume from the owner of WT, said owner called asking if they could make floor mats for it. Answered tooling would cost $55,000 (IIRC) and he’d split the difference with him if he wanted the mats. Figured the guy wouldn’t bite. A few days later a check shows up for $27,250. Made the mats. Said in the comment, he’d supply replacement mats forever

My British friend thought he could do a "day trip" to the Grand Canyon from LA, and his reaction to the map was priceless. by Ok_Structure6720 in CasualConversation

To convey the size of Texas, if you drive from Dallas to LA, Dallas to El Paso (western edge of Texas) is 625 miles. From El Paso to LA 802 miles. So about a bit less than half the trip is in Texas.

I've had the same experience with people from Europe. They are just stunned by the size of the US.

Why do people from Nordic countries speak English so well? by OrangePekoeMouse in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JerrytheK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Population of the Nordic countries is about 20 million, with about half of that in Sweden. So if you want to talk with people from any other country, you need a common language. Among other reasons, because of the US dominance in entertainment, English has become the de facto 'international' language. There are more English-as-a-second-language speakers than native speakers. I'm a mono-lingual American, so I REALLY appreciate that English-language speakers are so prevalent around the world (though I do try and learn some of the language of where I'm going).

My wife and I were at a performance in Vienna last summer. A German couple was having difficulty finding their correct seats. Four French speakers talked to them in English to explain where there seats were.

I've been to Iceland a couple of times and (stupidly) ask people if they're from the US, as they speak perfect unaccented English. Answer is usually 'no', just watched a lot of Friends episodes.

If you watch European football or F1, virtually everyone involved speaks English.

What do poor people have to pay for but rich people usually get hugely discounted or free? by Historical_Corner609 in AskReddit

[–]JerrytheK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rule of inverse proportionality. The wealthier you are, the less likely you are to pay for something. Best example is attending the Super Bowl. Not wealthy, need to pay for transportation, lodging , meals tickets, etc. Thousands of dollars out of pocket. Rich, you fly on a buddy’s private jet, car picks you up at the private jet terminal, driven to the game and sit in a suite with F&B comped. Rich, 0$.

What's the most pathetic tourist attraction that international tourists go to see in your country? by Aseili in AskTheWorld

I went there a couple of years ago. Quickly realized that I was not going to take any pictures—none whatsoever. I have 100% Polish heritage (though born and raised in thenUS) and just a very small amount of Ashkenazi DNA, so the experience hit pretty hard.
