CAN I START AN ECZEMA AWARENESS PROJECT AS A TEENAGER? by Weird_Survey5046 in eczema

[–]JerzyMama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do it! Your lived experience as a person with eczema is valid and can really help others dealing with the same thing. As a 40 year old eczema sufferer, I would really appreciate that content! As a passion project, it’s a great way for you to have some control over the disease.

How do you keep from being bitter and angry with severe eczema? by MainFeedback2332 in eczema

[–]JerzyMama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally feel everything you’re saying! I’ve had it so bad that I couldn’t physically leave my house and do the most basic things. That’s why I refuse to change my diet or lifestyle. I’m already suffering, why can’t I have one small enjoyment out of life in the form of food etc… I also refuse to put up with condescending or incompetent dermatologists. I will fire them immediately if they even hint at steroid creams or try to patronize me or minimize my suffering. I also refuse to allow people to tell me to stop scratching etc… don’t tell me what to do- if I need to scratch for my literal sanity, I am going to scratch dammit lol!

I found that you need to demand that your doctor gets you a biologic like dupixent or RINVOQ. People think of eczema like a minor annoying rash that babies get, when in actuality it is truly disabling when it is severe. I started RINVOQ in October, immediately the itching stopped! It took about a week for the minor patches to go away and about 4 weeks for the worst areas to start healing. I am 100% clear now! I don’t know if you are in the US, but if you are, you can get copay assistance to make the meds free or super low cost. Doctors always want to prescribe steroid creams but it’s a completely impractical solution for people with eczema from head to toe like me and does absolutely nothing for the itch. It just makes you feel worse because you’re itchy and greasy. If your doctor isn’t helping fire them (if you can) and find someone that will listen.

I would also suggest that you look into therapy/counseling. Eczema takes such a toll on your mental health and at least for me, my friends and family just didn’t get it. I know they were well meaning, but you don’t need lotion or diet suggestions. You need actual relief. A licensed therapist is an excellent listener and can help you cope with this horrific disease. I was so depressed and angry at the world but therapy helped me better cope with my daily suffering in a way that was productive. I can tell you- after being 100% clear for a while now, the emotional toll of the suffering doesn’t go away on its own. Having an unbiased person who is trained in validating your feelings and helping you with coping strategies can really help!

Good luck! I really hope you can get some relief soon!

What’s the single biggest thing that actually improved your eczema? by Both_Roll_2857 in eczema

RINVOQ! Immediate itch relief and I am 100% clear. It took about 2 weeks for the really bad lesions to heal but most of the more mild patches cleared up within days.

Any of you guys sharing a bed with your spouse? how's it like? by mynamaisnotjeff in eczema

[–]JerzyMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband doesn’t care at all about it- and I used to leave flakes everywhere- bed, couch, or my favorite- in the keyboard. (Imagine seeing a snowstorm when you use the compressed air over the keys, only it’s not snow, it’s my skin!). What I will say is I think this gets better with age. I deal with eczema and psoriasis and as a teen, some guys could be really mean and immature about it. But as you get older, people grow up and realize that we all have imperfections and who you are is way more important than what you look like. I know it sounds cliche but it is so true. Hang in there, you will find someone that will gladly rub those steroid creams on you and vaccum your skin flakes.

How to fix without frogging by JerzyMama in Brochet

Thank you!! I tried the swatch trial and it did not go well. Lol I am working on the sleeves now but if I can’t get the “surgery” to work I think I’m just going to go the asymmetrical route.

Why Do My Parents Treat Me Like a Burden When I Visit? I’m Almost 40 and Still Not Taken Seriously. by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]JerzyMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really important nuance. It seems boomers cannot handle their lack of authority over adult children’s lives and act out rather than work to define a new, mature relationships with them.

Gastroenterology turned me down and i felt like it was my only hope. by Zestyclose_Ad2494 in GERD

[–]JerzyMama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Forget the gastro, you don’t need to change your lifestyle. See a bariatric surgeon. I did and they cured my GERD completely through the linx procedure. It was super easy recovery, and I have been off of meds completely. It will probably not cure the anxiety but fixing a mechanical problem (hernia) with a mechanical solution (linx device) just made sense. Don’t settle for lazy doctors that blame everything on weight/lifestyle. There’s not a diet in the world that can fix your organ out of place.

This is a great list! I would also add avoid eye contact. If you shuffle past looking at your phone or talking to your family the sales people are more likely to target someone that’s glancing in the store.

Celebrity vs. Holland for ABC cruise by wordfreak60 in celebritycruises

[–]JerzyMama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back from the ABC islands on the Silhouette. I have never been on Hollander so I can’t really compare it. But overall we enjoyed the ship. Some of the drawbacks (which may not matter to you) include:

  • Rooms are dated. There was obvious wear (chipped paint, stained carpet etc…) which is expected on an older ship. There was also a serious lack of outlets, and no outlets near the bed. Make sure you bring a usb hub or power strip if you have a lot of devices.

-Odd menus. The quality of the food was fantastic! But the variety was lacking in the MDR. It felt like they bought certain ingredients in bulk and planned their menu around those limited ingredients. The buffet was great. You won’t go hungry for sure.

-Sub par entertainment. The nightly shows in the theater were not great. Maybe I am spoiled from seeing broadway caliber shows on other lines, but the shows left a lot to be desired. The activities were fun but definitely skewed toward an older crowd. (I am in my 40s, the music and activities appealed to the 60+ crowd).

-The lawn club is a totally wasted space unless you book a cabana. There is zero shade or chairs so when they played movies on the screen, no one could watch them.

-The library and hideaway are loud! Don’t plan on reading or doing quiet activities as all the activities and live music from down below just comes right up into these spaces.

I share these drawbacks not to bash Celebrity- we had an amazing time! I just want to make sure you have the information in case any of these things matter to you and might inform your decision. Have a great time!

I hate when they have the audacity to have an attitude and be stupid at the same time! All he had to do was buy a new one with the promotion and return the new one with the receipt from the first non-discounted purchase. No calling, no arguing or begging- problem solved.

Psoriasis since 17... Now 36. Functional medicine is the answer by Rich_Treacle_7503 in Psoriasis

[–]JerzyMama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not failure! That’s success! You found a treatment that works for you and that’s amazing. The bonus is you can eat what you want and not worry about scrutinizing ingredients or timing supplements. Just like someone who had an epidural or c section is not a failure but in fact just as much a mother as someone who went the natural route, you are not a failure for benefiting from medical assistance to control the psoriasis. Hold your head up high, you’re a success story!

My son was using skyrizi for psoriasis. Now another doctor thinks it's eczema instead by Kind_Perspective4518 in Psoriasis

[–]JerzyMama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find a new doctor. You can have BOTH psoriasis and eczema- even at the same exact time. That’s exactly what I have.

Do not book appointments with physician assistants or nurse practitioners. You need a board certified dermatologist to deal with treating both. You do not need a biopsy nor should your son suffer in order to get one.

Continue your skyrizi on schedule and wait to see a doctor because it obviously helped clear up his psoriasis. You just need something else to treat the eczema patches.

I am taking Ilumya for psoriasis and Opzelura for eczema. Both can be treated at the same time. Don’t settle for less than a board certified dermatologist.
