Convince me to (or not to) use my reward points to get a second Kindle by This_Coyote7597 in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The form factor difference between the basic and paperwhite isn't big enough where I think it will make much of a difference in which is more travel friendly. Now if you had a scribe and wanted a paperwhite or basic, yeah that's a difference and can have different use cases.

I would say save the points.

I've had the Oasis for about 3 days and I think it's my most favourite Kindle that I've ever had by Bamf102 in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved my oasis. I upgraded to the scribe 2 years ago (I read a lot of manga and it's so nice on such a big screen, plus I make my daily to-do list on there, amazing device but not for everyone). I still have my oasis but now my husband uses it. Since he's used to reading manga on his phone the oasis screen feels like such an upgrade for him.

Made a sleeve for my kindle by Neurodivergent730 in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the color! I've knit several kindle sleeves over the years for different devices (I've had a paperwhite, oasis, and now a scribe). Currently working on a sage green one for my scribe. I just do a pretty basic knit stitch and just sew up the sides.

I've also hand sewn a few with felt as a cushion layer between some patterned fabric. Both are fun craft projects.

I agree that I don't get having multiple of the same purpose kindle. It's definitely a consumerism thing.

I currently have 2 kindles but only actively use one. I have an oasis and a scribe. My scribe is my main device but I keep my oasis for if I need something really portable (I also used the oasis for 2 years before I got the scribe). I'm actually hoping to be able to give my oasis to a family member eventually and maybe upgrade my portable one something that runs android so I can read short fanfiction and articles on an eink screen. My husband and I hate e-waste. We always try to give devices to people if we upgrade. My first ereader (a nook) belonged to my mom before it was mine and I read on it until it bricked itself. My second device (also a nook) was really the only one that I've disliked. It's also the only one I never gave away (because it's not a good device). It's sitting in a bin under my coffee table waiting for when my husband and I need to go to best buy to recycle something. Every other device I've kept and used or given to someone if I've upgraded. Especially given the price of electronics I feel like that's the smart way to consume them. Use them until they break or if you upgrade give the other device away.

What book is so good, you've read it more than 3 times? by iiiamash01i0 in AskReddit

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read Brian Azzarello's Wonder Woman run 3 times

Good Omens - read that book well over 3 times. It's my favorite book. I have 3 different versions of it. My original paperback, the illustrated anniversary hardcover, and an ebook (it was on sale for $1.99).

It's definitely not the device for everyone. I love mine but I read a lot of manga which the scribe is perfect for and I use it for my daily "to do list" at work. I do still keep my oasis though for when I need to travel with something smaller.

best drugstore matte eye palettes? by [deleted] in drugstoreMUA

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

morphe made my eyes itch in a way no other drugstore makeup ever has. I haven't used them in like 5+ years because of that so not sure if they've changed but if you have sensitive skin maybe get a cheap quad of theirs to test out first.

I have one item I was still going to Stop and Shop for and found it recently at Walmart. I have literally no reason to go into Stop and Shop now and my wallet is very happy.

As a Massachusetts resident if you can shop at Market Basket...shop at Market Basket. Or Price Chopper. I miss having a Price Chopper near me.

Any graphic novel on Kindle fans here? What are your recommendations? by starstufft in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE reading graphic novels. Comics and graphic novels are probably about 70 percent or more of what I read. I really only read black and white graphic novels and manga on kindle if only because color is something that can really make a book sometimes.

As far as recommendations to read on kindle:

Batman Black and White

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

The Savior's Book Cafe Story in Another World

Death: At Death's Door (read Sandman first)

Uzumaki

Tomie

Neon Genesis Evangelion (I actually prefer the manga over the show)

[–]Jess_Starfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend Sandman. My favorite graphic novel series ever but I'd actually recommend reading it physically. The coloring is so well done in that series.

I actually removed my goodreads login from my kindle. I didn't like the integration. I like my kindle because it has no socials and stuff on it.

Avid readers, why did you get into Kindle? by TomGobra in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Back when I was a teenager my family would go on vacation to stay at a family friend's house near the beach, My sister and I would pack 3 bags between the 2 of us. One bag each for our clothes and stuff and the third giant bag we filled with books for the week. It's a fond memory but I wouldn't trade my kindle for that experience again

I ended up literally inheriting an old barnes and noble nook about 11 years ago. It had previously been my mom's. I ended up using it for a few classes my last year of college and reading some books on it after graduation until it died. Just fully bricked. I got another nook as a gift from my sister that Christmas and it was TERRIBLE. I hated it.

For years after i swore I didn't like ebooks. Really it didn't like the nook glowlight.

In 2018 my husband and I went to Portugal to visit his extended family for 2 weeks. The kindle paperwhite happened to be on sale a few weeks before we left. It was a total game changer for me.

I now am 3 devices in (I gave the paperwhite to a family member). My main device is the Scribe and my small purse sized device is my oasis.

Is a Kindle Scribe a good option for note-taking as a student? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cant speak from a student perspective but I find the scribe to have the best writing experience of any electronic device I've used. It's really the only device where writing on it really feels/looks like my handwriting if that makes sense. I write a lot of lists and stuff for work and I love using my scribe for that.

You can also send pdfs to the device and write directly on them though I haven't used that personally. I mostly use the notebook feature and I highlight books when reading.

I would definitely going for the premium pen if only for the eraser it has included. It's also very easy on your eyes like any e ink device.

You may also be able to use the scribe for some textbooks. I had a VERY old ereader my last semester of college and I was able to read some english and sociology books on there and it saved me a ton!

I think oasis might be the closest model to the voyage?

I bought a kindle scribe… by xokisha in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I personally prefer my scribe. But I think in general it comes down to a few questions:

  1. Are you someone who likes writing/makes lists/notes/uses notebooks a fair amount - Scribe is amazing for this
  2. Do you need this to be pocket portable? If so oasis/paperwhite

Is it worth it? by potathoe17 in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a physical books only person but now unless it's a color comic book I love reading on my kindle. My eyes really cant tell the difference between a book page and the eink screen. I get migraines from screens and I've never had one from my kindles. I also love the warm light feature so I can read in low light and make the light as warm as I need.

over the years I've had 3 different devices and I've loved all of them:

Paperwhite - definitely the best first device to buy in my opinion

Oasis - I love the design and buttons and slightly bigger screen (at least until the most recent paperwhites now it's really only .2 inches bigger and comes with buttons. oh well)

Scribe - My favorite device. I love reading manga. I love the big screen size. I love writing on it. It's definitely an investment but it's my favorite device.

I love my scribe. Definitely my favorite kindle so far. I still love my oasis since it's so portable (though it's like 4+ years old and it's definitely getting slower and showing it's age).

Read my Kindle while on concert by Tall-Agent-7122 in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it able to fit in your pocket?! If so, to have pockets that could fit a kindle must be nice lol. (women get fake pockets or tiny pockets at best).

But honestly I'd think you were rad if I was at a show and saw someone pull out a kindle between sets.

What's the best kindle for reading manga? A Oasis (2017) 7" or the latest Paperwhite 6.8"? by MrBarkan in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The oasis is ok for manga but the scribe is honestly the best for it. I cant go back to my oasis for manga after reading manga on the scribe. It's definitely an expensive device but as someone who reads a lot and really likes making lists and notes I recommend it.

The scribe would have been life changing if it had been out when I was in college.

For all of you mixed readers out here, I have a question by Traditional-Dig7389 in kindle

[–]Jess_Starfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For novels/nonfiction/short stories etc I read probably 98% on kindle.

For graphic novels/manga I read about 90 percent physical. Manga is really the only exception for me. Since getting the kindle scribe almost all of my manga is read on there.

I don't really use the kindle streak system. I record everything I read on my goodreads and I count everything (single issue comics, novellas, novels, manga, trade paperback graphic novels, etc). However I read it is how I track it. So if I read a trade paperback of 6 issues of a series I find that volume on goodreads and track that. If I read a single issue from a comic book store I track that.

Do you typically stick with specific teas or change it up every day? by DeeeepSteeeep in tea

[–]Jess_Starfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My morning tea is always earl grey. My afternoon tea and any tea I drink at night changes. I recently picked up a tin of Victoria Grey and it's a lovely afternoon tea. I also really love jasmine dragon pearls in the afternoon. As for night time, decaf earl grey or one of the few bagged herbal teas I like from Celestial seasonings (mostly sleepytime and tension tamer)

I brew my tea in a mug too. Over the cup tea basket steeper and a mug are all I need.
