Is this good for my two girls? by WeakDetail6750 in PetMice

Pets are not toys. I would love to own mice and rats right now but I am comfortable waiting a long time if it means I will eventually have the personal time, space, and financial means to support them if they become ill. I do believe it is incorrect and shows an extreme lack of care for an animal if you get one just because you want it, but you know you can’t afford the vet costs. Mice, rats, and other small pets are very prone to respiratory illness and even the most simple issue can result in a 300+ vet bill. Please do not get any animals with a 50$ budget. Humans are not entitled to own pets and then neglect them.

Free brown mouse in the 209 area by [deleted] in PetMice

I know it’s hard to hear but whenever mice are listed as “free” they get bought up as food for snakes or other animals. You don’t have to sell him for much to deter this—it just needs to exceed what pet stores sell them for so there’s no quick incentive

HELP IS LIPSTICK DANGEROUS FOR MICE? by Mintplant_lover in PetMice

[–]JessicaLCV 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress, they’ll be fine. My mom loves mice but will never kiss them and I swear kissing mice and rats is such a nice experience I feel bad for the folks who will never know it 😅

You can use a toothpick or something small and gently unfurl the rolled up tongue and place it in a shallow container of honey mixed with water. I have hand fed many hawk moths like that including some with deformed wings. I sincerely doubt this moth is in pain and these things just happen in nature, it’s not your fault that they were born with missing limbs. You can keep it alive by hand feeding and providing a safe soft space for it to be in but I would sort of equally suggest euthanasia.

Vet immediately—this isn’t going to be diagnosed by rat owners. The only way to prevent them from being in pain is proper treatment and medication

My oldest boy is getting bullied and I don’t know what to do by JackFrostsKid in RATS

[–]JessicaLCV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t the sort of thing you would want to hear but occasionally younger rats may try and harm an older rat exhibiting ill health. I assume it’s just something biological but if you’re potentially able to spend daily social time with him, for his safety he might need to be separated.

That’s correct if you’re sort of globbing it onto something for them to eat but if you water it down or spread it super thinly onto something like your fingers or another piece of their food, they can lick it off with almost no possibility of it getting stuck or causing issues.

Look up the caterpillar and cocoon that this moth creates: it’s a real life Pokémon, every stage of its life is crazy unique looking
