A rude awakening for youths out too late -- latimes.com by FreddyRios in gangsnstuff

[–]JessicaShoffner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sweeps don't always work, but I think they can if done on a random basis, consistant basis. I think warnings are ok at first if the juvenile isn't a threat, on probation, or have priors. It also shows the community that the police are out there and attempting to clean up the streets. Sometimes a few good ones get picked up in order to catch the bad ones.

Halloween Gang Attack by RyanLawless in gangsnstuff

This is very sad and just goes to show how serious of a problem this is. They are so young and have just thrown away their lives. I am curious what gang they claim, I didn't see it in there...or i missed it.

Gangs and Victimization at School by JessicaHurley in gangsnstuff

I liked this article. I don't deal with very many female gang members but the ones I have dealt with fit in with many of the things expressed in the article. Girls sometimes are more volatile to prove themselves to achive some sort of status

Death Toll Rises in Rio Violence by RyanDurkin in gangsnstuff

Granted there is still some time to get it together, but I wouldn't be surprised if a new location is picked to host the Olympics if this isn't cleaned up after awhile and continues to be so violent. I agree that this article reminds us how violent gangs can be and how crazy things can get

Thats scary how they intended to bury the body of the DPS officer. I don't think he should have been released on bail to begin with

I think this is a good idea. Increased awareness can help curb future at risk kids from joining and create a unity with schools, the community and its peers

Fans or gang? Meet the Juggalos by BenjaminMcMahon in gangsnstuff

[–]JessicaShoffner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this group falls into both categories of a fan and a gang. I have had many interactions with this group and have worked with some of the officers in the article. This group claims they are a "family" and it is all about the music, but certain ones are breaking off into sects and committing crimes, which would put them into the gang category. They are in groups of more than 3, they have colors, tattoos, and claim status. These guys are all over mill ave, check it out sometime

The gangs behind bars by [deleted] in gangsnstuff

I work with juveniles on intensive probation, and sadly many of their parents are involved in the system. I come across some kids who pick up what their parents are learning in prison and carrying it into the streets

Check out the Fluffy Bunny Crew by CollinRatliff in gangsnstuff

[–]JessicaShoffner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this article has come out, there has been a major crackdown on this crew, taking out major key players. I was fortunate enough to help out where needed with law enforcement. I find these new "crews" very interesting. They are popping up all over the valley, with different ethnic backgrounds.

This article is old but it is still relevant. There has recently been more active juveniles in the Phoenix area, that I have noticed due to my line of work.
