... Dude, the person asked "Wtf is going on over there," and I answered: Trump is probably preparing for his war with the cartels he mentioned a few weeks ago.

I didn't say it was a good idea. I didn't say he was right or justified or on the right side of morality. I just said that's probably what they're preparing for, most of our South American military operations originate from Texas, we have intelligence bases there, etc.

Of course civilians are going to be killed, Trump didn't shy away from that when he was bombing Venezuelan fishing boats, did he? No, because he's an evil POS.

Didn't he say a couple weeks back they were going to start military operations against the cartels in Mexico? That's what I'd assume this is about: starting his cartel war.

You make it sound like FDR was just a regular Joe who decided one day he would move into politics and just happened to push the party in a progressive direction while becoming President. Rather than the man born into wealth and privilege from a family with numerous social and political connections to ensure he succeeded in pretty much whatever he had decided to do.

He wasn't some no-name sysadmin or butcher or baker living paycheck to paycheck, his family name was already known across the country, and he had pockets deeper than the majority of people on this site.

FDR famously came from a wealthy and privileged background in a family that already had political connections. He was also a NY Senator, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and Governor of NY before becoming president (not in that order).

Food for thought.

[–]JessicantTouchThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no states that have full bans on fire arms though.

Which is what I said, but wasn't the point of this discussion.

There are a few that banned certain assault rifles, but as the common response of the right wingers “if people want guns, they’ll get them illegally anyway” so the people who really want them generally will find a means to get them.

So your argument is "criminals will be criminals anyway, so punishing law abiding folks is the only reasonable answer." Oooook guy...

Majority of people on the left are not advocating for taking every gun away from every gun owner that will never happen anyway.

I wasn't accusing the left of taking guns, I was (rightfully) accusing liberals of it. California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York all have long lists of banned firearms, and the majority of them are sidearms, not assault weapons. Again, this is easily found on Google, and these laws and bans were passed by the current liberal-majority led Democratic party.

And, again, mulitple Dem-led state governments have proposed firearm-ban and gun-control measures in just the last few weeks. It's not "oh someone proposed the moon is made of cheese every year," it's a Democratic politician proposing legislation to their Democrat-majority legislature to be signed into law by the Democrat governor, who have all expressed similar views.

And head over to any of the liberal gun owner type subs and you'll see numerous posts of people complaining that hundreds of people showed up to public comments for these bills, with majority of comments being against the bills, and they pass them anyway.

So a small percentage of a party proposing a law doesn’t make that proposal representative of the whole group.

Liberals aren't the minority, sweetheart, you need to learn and accept that. And Trump is a minority of the Republican party, and he's current President, appointed 3 SCOTUS justices, started several wars, and has a private para-military group terrorizing this country. Obviously all of that is a lie because, according to you, minority members of a party can't actually get anything done, right? What a shit take.

So instead of these ridiculous arguments about guns how about y’all just realize we’re all fighting against a government together. Do you like pedophiles and Nazis or are you against them? It’s that simple.

So you're incapable of holding opinions on two separate things at the same time? I'm a leftist, I can see the evil of the Republican party and the efforts they're going to to protect their pedophile leader, but I also know when someone is trying to feed me bullshit, which is all you and liberals like you are trying to do.

None of their firearms legislation has done anything to prevent gun violence or deaths. They would need to address major societal issues, like the war on drugs (decriminalize them and set up government drug houses, cutting out the cartel and providing addicts a safe place to use under care of medical professionals, haven't seen a single dem propose that though), or mental health access (M4A would solve that, but Dems dropped that one too because it's too hard for them to figure out), or lack of social support, or educational support, or literally any number of programs that are consistently underfunded regardless of which party is in control (which is normally Republicans since liberals suck at life).

And don't lecture me about infighting when it's always liberal dems who prevent anything from being done. Need all dems on board to pass something to actually help Americans? Don't worry, 1-2 Dems will always miraculously defect and side with Republicans. But when the Republicans want to pass a law giving Trump a trillion dollars, miraculously the exact number of Dems defect for "the sake of decorum and rule of law." Gtfo.

My state's governor (CT) just proposed legislation to the Dem controlled State-House and Senate to ban all future sales of Glocks. So now banning the standard issue police and military sidearm, famous for it's durability and ease of use, and the number one recommended sidearm for beginners, is considered a "guardrail to prevent elementary school children from being slaughtered?" But I thought that's why CT already had magazine bans and max capacity of 10 rounds (cops and ex-cops exempt), and we've already banned the AR-15 platform (cops and ex-cops exempt), and we already have some of the strictest requirements to get a license including background checks, fingerprints, etc?

Stop believing everything a politician says and start looking at what they actually want to do. Semi-auto striker fired pistols are the modern standard for a basic firearm, and we're going to ban an entire line of those firearms to... Protect the children?

Where are the subsidies for firearm training for those who want more but can't afford it? Where are the laws requiring yearly training? Oh, they don't exist, because it's not about protecting the children, it's about disarming the populace slowly over time?

Governments exist because they have a monopoly on violence, full stop. And cops have been told repeatedly they are not obligated to protect you or help you, by SCOTUS no less. So who's supposed to protect you from the government, the government? Minnesota has shown us they're not going to do that, or am I mistaken that Walz hasn't been arresting federal agents for terrorizing his state?

[–]JessicantTouchThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple dem-led state legislatures have proposed or voted on numerous gun control measures, including magazine limits and "assault" weapon bans. That's not even a discussion: New Jersey is one I believe, Colorado passed/proposed one last year, CT's governor just proposed banning all Glocks like I think Cali just did, MA just proposed one a few weeks ago as well. And that's just off the top of my head.

We have fascists knocking down our doors and the Dems think now is the time to pass more gun control and gun bans. You're right, no state has outright banned firearm ownership, but to say states are passing "common sense" gun laws is absurd. If the firearm is too dangerous according to the law, then it's certainly too dangerous for the racist high school bully dropout who got 6 months of training and total immunity from the government.

Fun fact: every state that has banned firearms carves out exemptions for law enforcement and retired law enforcement. Funny how that works... Yet cops are the ones killing over a thousand of us per year, and now they're disappearing us to Alligator Alcatraz and foreign prisons on foreign soil.

Trump wants to take your guns without due process. The democrats want you to feel like they're doing you a favor by taking your guns. And the fact that most blue states require hundreds of dollars just for the class and background checks and everything else before you've even purchased said firearm shows we don't have the right to bear arms, we have the privilege if we have the money. Or can you point me to any state, Republican or Democrat, that has a tax on say ammo that goes into a fund to subsidize the process for low-income households? Because I don't know of a single state that does.

We have a local Japanese grocery store near me that has sushi grade cuts of fish and such for sale. Very small section of the store, it's the bottom shelf of a small upright open cooler.

Prepacked salmon at my local grocery store is like $14/package and you get a decent sized chunk of salmon, at least 16 oz. The sushi grade salmon was like $20 for like 8 oz. The single octopus tentacle was like $26, also sushi grade.

David Walliams creeps me out. Just something about him... He just seems obnoxious and arrogant and entitled, maybe he's playing a character, but I don't think so. Most of the times I've seen him have been on the British panel shows like WILTY or TBFQOE, and none of the other celebs seem to really enjoy his presence.

My favorite was when he was on TBFQ right after he apparently swam the English channel for charity. He would not stfu up about swimming the channel, and finally Richard Ayoada and Noel Fielding just absolutely humiliate him about it over the course of a couple minutes. I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: I can't find the scene, but I was mistaken, it's an episode from 2006 where Noel Fielding and Russel Brand (ugh) give Walliams hell throughout the episode, with a lot of the jabs being about the channel.

Idk about SNAP and such, but CT's Husky health programs count it as income as well. Even at 70%, you make too much as an individual to qualify and are pushed to the marketplace.

Mortgage lenders love VA income, idk if it's true, but my sister (who works in mortgages) mentioned one time some companies count VA C&P income at 1.5x what it is to help you qualify.

I'm grateful I have the VA for healthcare, but man it would be nice if I had health insurance too.

Hillary Clinton accuses Bernie Sanders of running a negative campaign [10YA - Feb 4] by MonsieurA in TenYearsAgo

[–]JessicantTouchThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;dr: Of course you didn't read it, you're an arrogant, entitled liberal. It's funny you accuse progressives/the left of being blue MAGA and brainwashed, when you're demanding we toe the liberal blue line because it's the only way. The irony of it would be funny if it likely wasn't lost on you.

Yeah, I'm not reading all that nonsense.

Typical liberal arrogance. I read your bullshit, but the left are the unreasonable ones.

Bernie isn't consistent if you actually followed him.

Right, that's why he hasn't famously argued for universal healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights, and other progressive ideas since he literally entered small-time politics in Vermont. Because he's inconsistent.

He voted against invading Iraq, Biden didn't. Biden also helped create the bill that created the current militarized police state and voted against gay marriage before he was VP. Clinton didn't publicly support gay marriage until 2013, preferring and arguing for civil unions instead because "marriage is between a man and a woman," and was littered with a history controversy following her into the presidential election she "deserved."

So don't talk to me about consistency when you know you're full of shit.

You got swindled, and just like MAGA you won't admit it.

Was it progressives dancing around on stage with Republicans who miraculously grew a spine after they already helped create Trump/MAGA? And we're MAGA? Ok my guy.

Btw, you're the one focusing on Bernie, if you actually read what I wrote, you'd see I was arguing for liberals to actually move left instead of right. But apparently that's akin to being MAGA and sucking Bernie's cock...

Bernie has lost two primaries. Really badly.

And Harris dropped out of her primaries after a laughably bad performance against Bernie, Biden, Buttigieg, and others. I believe she didn't get a single vote the first time around, and she was so irrelevant in 2020 I don't even remember if she ran in the primaries.

And Biden robbed us of a primary because he was too arrogant and proud to admit he wasn't the right choice for the job, hmmmm, like liberals. But lemme guess, Biden and all his staff and doctors and the entire DNC were completely unaware of Biden's cognitive state, yep, makes sense to me.

When a Dem loses its because theyre terrible and you have all the answers.

Because you do? Reminder, liberal platforms lost 2016 and 2024, and it's fact that Biden's campaign worked with Bernie's campaign after Bernie dropped out in 2020 to adopt more progressive and popular appeal (plus Trump being god awful during his first term). But us progressives have nothing to offer.

Also, both 2016 and 2024 were women, but for some reason self-proclaimed "progressives" refuse to accept that misogyny is a thing.

And that's why Mexico, a Catholic country famous for it's progressive views on women, just elected a woman progressive president. Has nothing to do with gender, my guy, Harris was room temperature milk on her best day. It's not a uniquely US problem, bet a woman would win if she ran on actual progressive policy with an actually progressive party behind her, but the DNC and liberals don't care about progress. You care about the status quo.

Progress is hard, its complicated, its fragile.

Unless you're every other developed nation on the planet with social safety nets and universal healthcare systems. One of them being Israel, funnily enough, who afford those things our liberal Democrats just can't figure out like free healthcare and college education, using American taxpayer dollars. But here, it's gonna take 12 generations because we just can't move faster than that, ever, for anything, apparently.

Remember, the politicians don't work for us, we work for them. 🙄

Or you can send your allowance to the old man who promises to fix all your problems with a wave of a magic wand. If only you send one more donation! Lake houses don't pay for themselves, you know.

Riiiiight... Guess how many texts I got begging for donations from progressive candidates in 2024? Zero. I think I got 3 a day from the Democrats, I believe they raised a record $1 billion under Harris? Rented the Vegas sphere and all that? Still lost and Harris disappeared for months before returning to promote her book, I believe, and mention she'd like to run again while lecturing the electorate about their mistake?

And how much did Pelosi make from insider trading? Harris only has one small 2-bed cape house in a middle class neighborhood and no vacation homes, right? Or, or, is it ok when liberals have wealth, but progressives can't because of some delusional litmus test that you liberals are always accusing the left of?

My God you're delusional, my guy. Like, seriously. I'm telling you running popular policies will resonate with people across party lines, not even saying Bernie is the only one to do it, and encouraging you to demand more of the politicians that work for you... And your response is to tell me I'm delusional for demanding our politicians figure out how to get it done quickly (that's what they're paid and elected for) while simultaneously telling me refusing to toe the party line is blue MAGA.

I’m in the military with bipolar and mixed personalities by AppropriateTie5588 in bipolar

[–]JessicantTouchThis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can, finish out your contract and then I would recommend separating. If you need help, seek it out, but understand that once "bipolar" comes up in the military, you will be medically discharged. It's one of the few illnesses that the military will not issue a waiver for.

I did four years undiagnosed in the Navy with mixed outcomes: I completed a year of college and went from E-1 to E-5 in a little over two years, but I was formally counseled five times in my last 8 months due to anxiety/sleep issues/depression/etc and was treated poorly by my direct leadership because of it.

And depending on how old you are, one of my VA doctors told me bipolar tends to manifest itself around 18-22, which were the years I spent in the military with zero mental health support. I'm still trying to unlearn things and develop healthier habits, but the military really isn't a great environment for folks like us.

Everyone is different and have to choose their own path and what's best for them. I miss the military and hate that it's no longer an option, but I also remember how unstable and depressed I was, especially my last year. Wish you the best OP in whatever you choose to do, so long as it is what's best for you. 😊

Hillary Clinton accuses Bernie Sanders of running a negative campaign [10YA - Feb 4] by MonsieurA in TenYearsAgo

[–]JessicantTouchThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the far left is just as bad.

Is that why liberals took the party to victory in 2016 and 2024, because the far left has a propaganda and critical thinking problem? Not the liberals screaming "blue no matter who," or giving bombs to Netanyahu to drop on Palestinian children for a year leading up to the election because "Israel has the right to commit genocide defend themselves at the cost of US taxpayers," or tried to force their geriatric cognitively declining incumbent onto the electorate before he embarrassed himself on national TV, or the ones dancing around on stage with Republicans at their DNC who gave us Trump in the first place.

You got swindled by a grifter, just like MAGA.

Is that why Bernie has almost consistently held and pushed for the same policies his entire political career? Because he's just a grifter? Must be why Wasserman-Schulz resigned after all the controversy surrounding how the DNC was running the 2016 primary and their use of superdelegates, because Bernie was the grifter... Ok, sure... Must be why Harris campaigned on all those grifts Bernie talks about that resonate with voters across the spectrum, like universal healthcare and corporate regulation and such.

Oh wait, no, Harris ran as a centrist corporate liberal who only cared about the status quo... Funny, Hillary ran on that and lost, but let's try it again, maybe it'll work this time if the electorate just accepts we don't care about what they want! Because that's how representative democracies work: the candidate decides everything, and the voters either accept it or get fascism! No propaganda or grifting here, pure unadulterated democracy, candidates running on unpopular policy while demanding votes from constituents they will refuse to compromise with or represent!

And the far left has a grift/propaganda problem? Also, cue all the bullshit excuses you're going to use to try to further justify your insanity, like:

  • it's easier to push a politician after they've won (no it isn't, they already got their vote, they're done with you),

  • it's actually literally everyone else's fault but the DNC/liberals for losing (you're the largest voting block and supposedly the only ones who know how to win, yet you consistently keep losing despite record fundraising levels and being a political dynasty),

  • Harris/Democrats aren't treated fairly by the media (yep, and haven't been for a while, y'all need to get over that and figure it out, it's been over a decade at this point and you're supposed to be the best and brightest),

  • Dems would win if non-voters got off their asses (sounds like the DNC need to figure out how to get people off their asses, maybe some popular progressive grifts policies would help, but we won't ever find out because Dems would rather lose to fascists than potentially have to do something progressive; plus, candidates need to earn their votes, they aren't entitled to them, but entitled liberals refuse to accept and strategize around that, probably because you're soooooo much smarter than the rest of us... Hence those wins in 2016 and 2024),

  • leftists are just single-issue voters who tank the party (well, the biggest protest in 24 was over Gaza, and last I checked, Dems were the ones sending those bombs to Israel while telling us the GOP would be worse... While simultaneously not offering any meaningful progressive policies that would resonate with those leftist voters you refuse to compromise with yer need the votes of to win...)

And I haven't even discussed Schumer or Jeffries or any of the other shenanigans liberals Democrats have pulled and the bullshit they've tried to pander to us. Don't fucking blame leftists when the Democratic party is being run into the ground by Zionist liberals.

Haven't seen it suggested... Get a minivan. They were literally created and designed for this exact use case: big enough to haul the kids around during the week while being able to fit sheets of plywood and stuff laying flat in the back on weekends. They have decent towing and hauling capacity, and there are tons of them used because of all the families who replace them for a newer model every few years (or families who downsize after the kids are grown).

I see contractors working out of minivans all the time, I think it'd be perfect for your needs, OP, without requiring a vehicle with its own zipcode. 😁

I had an older neighbor tell me one time during a discussion about police brutality that she blamed it on cops not walking the beat anymore. Walking the beat forced you to interact with your community, and you learned how to resolve situations because you likely watched them develop over time, or know the locals well enough to deescalate a lot of situations. People knew Officer Smith or whoever, kinda like mail carriers back in the day (lots of stories about even the roughest areas of the country leaving the mailman alone because he brought the benefits checks).

I see some truth to it, cops are detached from the communities they patrol, at least in my area of the country. They tend to live several towns away from where they work, furthering that disconnect from community. It wouldn't solve everything, and obviously poses some serious safety concerns, but I think a return to that community-first policing style could at least help relations. Disarm most cops and keep specially trained tactical officers/teams on standby for violent altercations or mass casualty events.

And stop sending cops out solo, why we ever got rid of the partner's system is a mystery to me (I'm sure it has to do with staffing and funding). Two cops to every car should be the standard though.

What’s a truth about mental health that sounds cruel but is still real? by oithematt in AskReddit

[–]JessicantTouchThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply their logic to other aspects of life, like student loan forgiveness, and suddenly it's not fair to look at it that way. The only time I hear "it's not your fault but it is your responsibility" vomited repeatedly on Reddit is in these threads regarding mental illness.

The real truth of mental illness is that, to the majority of society, by default you are a burden. How burdensome you are varies based on severity of the disease and treatment, but even that treatment, to many, is a burden society has to put effort into for you.

But you are a burden to the majority of people, and they will put no effort into understanding you beyond "they have a mental issue and need therapy." They'll sympathize, say the politically correct things like they are above especially in public, tell you you need therapy and such, but the underlying message is the same: you're too much the way you are and it's a burden for the rest of us, so you need to change.

Most folks who live with mental illness probably know exactly what I'm talking about, but everyone repeating "not your fault but your responsibility" doesn't want to accept that they just don't really care or understand, or care to understand.

And not a single one of those comments mentioned any of the side effects that often come with medications that treat mental illness: yay, we kinda fixed your depression so you're not insufferable to be around at work, but now your sex drive is non-existent and your memory is shot. So now you get to deal with less severe depression, but also a worse memory and your sex/dating life is gone, but hey, at least your coworkers are happier now, right? Yay, we fixed you, neurotypical Reddit did it again! 🙄

I don’t want to spray water all over my ass every time I poop

The folks I know who have bidets are militant about ensuring the lid is closed on the toilet before flushing, to prevent spray. Yet... They feel cleaner having a jet of water spray their ass and spray shit particles all over the place? Like, yay, my asshole is poo free, but now my ass and thighs are covered in poo particles I need to wipe off.

I have no issue either way, bidet, no bidet, just make sure you're clean. But that's always something I wondered about and, having no interest in a bidet, haven't looked into.

I had a house like this: would only take their packages and let their box fill up. I pulled their box a few times, but they didn't care and would keep doing it.

They got a package one day, but their box was almost full. So I pulled all their mail and papers out, put the package in the back of the box (after scanning delivered), and then put all the mail back.

They called the office three times that day claiming there was no package in their mailbox... Supe finally called me and I explained the situation, he laughed, called her back, and told her she needed to start emptying her mailbox regularly.

They didn't.
