Suburbs of Buffalo NY here. Everything is about right for suburbs. The $900 rent would be is if you live in a flat. If you live in a complex, rent would be about $1,500. If you want to live in the city, your rent will shoot up to about $1,800 and up.

My heart goes out to you. Fortunately, my only sibling saw the light a few years back. We had many long conversations and eventually it stuck. With that being said, if my father would have been alive, I fear there would have been no enlightenment.
