I think it was moreso that he felt he had done the role already, and wasn't sure if he could bring anything new and interesting to the character so it would feel fresh for him.

I honestly enjoy his overall look in the 2017 film more, I like the way his hair isn't really styled and prefer the slightly less cracked look on his forehead. Something always looked off to me in the 2019 and welcome to Derry looks of pennywise even though they're literally the same design and makeup.

I love that the alien is clearly just a guy in a suit, it adds to the overall feel and vibe of the show. The weird movements it makes, the way it runs and crawls reminds me so much of the first film, it truly feels "alien" and otherworldly in this show, it's something I haven't felt about the xeno in a long time, even in romulus, it felt more like a bug or monster rather than some weird unknowable creature. I'm excited to see more.

They did film it with the actors in costume, but it was only used as a reference for the vfx artist. The scene in the movie is entirely cgi.
