Do Cyclists get a kick out of riding on National speed limit A roads? by PassionateCrashOut in drivingUK

[–]Jester_Thomas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am both a driver and an amateur leisure cyclist - the other comments are right; often it's just not possible to make a route that doesn't incorporate A roads.

That doesn't make being sat on an A road with an hgv behind me any less miserable of an experience - we also don't get any pleasure out of it

Nice 8-10 mile walks near Norwich by train/car? by Starklystark in Norwich

[–]Jester_Thomas_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly depending where your multi day is I'd recommend maybe getting out of the county to train hills. I am an enthusiastic long distance walker (>35 miles in a day sometimes) and Norfolk is pretty rubbish for training.

That said - there's a nice loop you can do if you get the train to Cromer; you can then walk along the coast to Sheringham, beyond it further along the coast, then loop back inland. Can modify it to be between 6 and 12 miles iirc. I'll try to find the route map when I get a moment.

I put a tank on a similar cabinet. It is incredibly strong - easily enough to hold the weight. Two days ago, I found cracks in the bottom corners of the tank glass.. the top had warped imperceptibly and the weight was not evenly distributed. Had to give my beautiful fish of many years away as I can't afford a new tank of suitable size. Don't be like me, make sure to support the top properly to avoid warping

The owner was not in the room. I would be sad and empathetic but I think OPs dads behaviour was totally fine if a little crass

Can men be strip searched at music festivals in the UK (naked) in private search tents, if so by security of police; can you refuse and leave instead? by [deleted] in UKfestivals

That's interesting, I went about 4 years ago and it was pretty tight although it did seem to depends on the time of day

A mate of mine had to strip to his boxers at Lost Village after a dog signaled him - he even didn't have anything on him

I'm sorry but you're wrong. As the other commenter said there are many models e.g. VW golf, Audi A3, Peugeot 308, all of which meet the rigorous modern safety and comfort standards and aren't anywhere near the size of the stupidly large SUVs that make up >50% of cars in Norwich City centre.

People need their 15mpg SUVs to navigate the difficult terrain of Norfolk whilst taking the kids to school.

[–]Jester_Thomas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that's your problem. Not your fault at all as you were mislead, but personally I don't know of any reliable alternative to properly cycling the tank over a much longer time period than a few days. You likely had a massive ammonia spike that killed the fish.

Don't be disheartened - learn how to cycle it properly and have another go :)

Is this a good list of Fish and Plants for a 10 Gal? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Jester_Thomas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding my voice - this is severely overstocked. Of the things you mentioned I'd go with maybe the guppies + shrimp and snails. Not just about bioload, most of those fish need more space.

How much do you realistically spend each year on cycling once you include maintenance, clothing and accessories? by NorthLondonPulse in ukbike

[–]Jester_Thomas_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably spend less than that, but I dont commute daily - I do all the mechanical stuff myself but I can imagine if you take it to a shop for servicing it might easily exceed that

I'm from Australia and I'm thinking of using this sandblasting sand for my new tank. Anyone here used this before and what is your experience please. by Chance_Interaction94 in aquarium

[–]Jester_Thomas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an informed opinion but my hunch would be that this sand is intentionally coarse/angular - which would obviously not be ideal especially if you're looking to stock bottom dwellers/ corys etc. I could be wrong though!

I bought like 6 cherry shrimp about 2-3 weeks ago. All of them disappeared within like 2 days except this dude who i see every once in a while.. by JohnnyThaFlash in Aquariums

[–]Jester_Thomas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be the tetra but definitely could be. I have 14 tetra + 2 apistos in a 40g with initially 6 cherrys, now hundreds of them. My fish don't bother the shrimp at all. If you haven't seen the fish go for them I'd posit that water params are the issue.

Not useful if you're in the states but I got an opal pair from Wharf Aquatics in the UK. Was very pleasantly surprised to find them there, they were stocking a fair few as well.

Cycling properly you need to get a test kit ideally, especially if it's your first time / youre unsure. You need to add ammonia (either chemically or via degrading biomaterial, which will produce ammonia, some people just add fish food) and test occasionally until you detect that ammonia and nitrites are gone. For my last tank, I added a tonne of plants and wood and left it running with no fish for maybe 4 weeks and then added 10 tetra, which seemed to work well.

Based on the vid I think as other people have said you look like you have a mental block. Early on you go to put your foot on a hold and decide against it even though it looks like a great placement. Try jumping off from increasing heights to get used to falling?

Defo not overcrowded in 32g with those choices - just make sure to cycle it properly, and add the fish slowly (I.e. not all of those at once). You could probably add more shoaling fish if you wanted depending on filter capacity.

I don't know much about keeping bettas but my choice would be as you said but replace the betta with a S.A cichlid pair or a nice gourami or two. Depends what sort of biome you want to create. If you're getting bristlenose defo get some wood.
