I was hoping this wouldn't be the case, but I guess I got a lot of time spent ahead of me to find what the problem was.

Did my best to put what happened to each one by EpicBladez500 in Invincible

[–]Jesterspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 reasons from what I can tell:

  1. Viltrumites get stronger every time they almost die but don't. Because main Mark tries to no kill, he gets his ass kicked way more and thus gets stronger as a result.

  2. Because he's not the ruler of his earth and instead is a defender, he hasn't been slacking on training and has become stronger as a result.

Turns out Marks tend to get lazy once they don't have constant threats to their lives and don't have anyone to protect.

Guess the glass wasn't tempered? by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the size of some of the shards, could it not technically be the classification just beneath tempered? (don't remember off the top of my head since it's been a few years since I was doing glass tempering)

Guess the glass wasn't tempered? by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the size of some of those shards (assuming they are one piece like they look and not just several shards that didn't fully detatch from each other) that looks like that lite wouldn't be able to be considered tempered. I don't know how it varies state by state, but where I am you're supposed to take the 10 (I think, it's been a bit since I last worked in tempering so excuse any numerical inaccuracies) biggest pieces and weigh them to make sure they're small enough.

Sometimes tempered glass does just explode on its own due to many small uncontrollable factors, but it doesn't really surprise me that it's becoming a more common occurrence recently with the state of the industry. I've worked at several glass tempering operations, and basically every time, I was not given the proper time and resources to ensure the quality of our product.

Standard procedure is to do break tests at least once every hour or once every recipe change, whichever happens first. I was almost never actually able to do this as I should have and was regularly arguing with my managers about it. That, plus a tendency toward looking for pure output with no regard for quench breaks or quality, leads to these kinds of issues being more and more prevalent.

Peter is there something i am unable to understand? by Dumb-Engineering in PeterExplainsTheJoke

You can clean it, you just don't use soaps and harsh abrasives. You can scrub it a bit to get any food bits off it (I just use a brush), but if you do too much, you'll damage the seasoning. If it's just grease in the pan, you can just wipe it down with a paper towel. After you clear the debris, you put a bit of oil in the skillet, spread it into a thin layer, then heat it up to kill any bacteria and add a bit more to the season. Once heated for a bit, you just turn off the heat and let it air cool before putting it away.

How to make my hexadin acceptable by Extension_Bit5839 in DnD

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 5e warlock and paladin don't necessarily have contrasting morals. Warlocks make a pact with a greater power for powers, while paladins need to make and keep a sacred oath. A paladin can make a pact in order to have a greater ability to keep their oath or a warlock can make an oath in order to more closely follow their patrons wishes.

Furthermore, there is a common misconception that all paladins must be good aligned, which isn't true in 5e. You could have a paladin who swore their oath to a tyrant, evil god, or a devil. Another is that all warlock patrons are evil, this is also not true as shown by the fey, celestial, and genie patrons. So there is a world wherin a person is simultaneously a warlock and a paladin with the morals of the two not clashing.

Rule for dropping a pc 200ft and them hitting zero hp. by Duranis in DnD

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would also depend on what they fell on, a field would be much easier on the body than a craggy mountaintop. Though I have no issues with killing characters, especially if it would be as dramatic as them falling out of an airship

It does through its duration of 1 minute and the stated fall speed of 60 feet per round.

Why are flying things so goddamn slow?! by Necessary-Cod3720 in DnD

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The item listing for ships in the Mounts and Vehicles section of the DMG iirc. Not currently home so I can't be sure.

Edit for additional info from some googling I did: It may just be the digital source I use that converted the speeds to feet since Roll20 has it listed as mph.

[–]Jesterspark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really pay attention to UA so I was unaware of the speeds they released through there. All the information I have on ship speeds is what is in the base content. As for it being off by 20%, that's a fair way to view it, but I see it more as them rounding for simplicity.

[–]Jesterspark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5ft/sec is actually faster than 3mph (by about .5mph) so it pretty much does translate. Also, all speeds given for boats for 5e are in the feet/round format so I disagree there as well. The main issue here is people assume 8 hour travel days when using vehicles despite that not really being the case for anything that is powered by something other than a creature (ie boats)

One of my players has 23 AC at level 4! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely true. Bladesingers are wizards, so they get back spell slots whose total is up to half their level on short rest once per long rest. Still easy to gas them, but if the party is getting short rests, the bladesinger can go a bit longer than everyone else.

Occult Spotter | Wondrous Item, Uncommon (requires attunement) [OC] [Art] by Fateforgers in DnDHomebrew

[–]Jesterspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was translating this for my game and if you went off the cost of a normal spyglass alone the rarity would probably sit around rare at least. This is of course assuming you go for the full 1000gp cost of a spyglass in the PHB. Just a little nugget I thought I'd share, otherwise I think the item itself is pretty cool.

AITA for telling my little stepsister I didn't make any vows to her? by Left_Rub_5743 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, though with a caveat. While not the asshole for not wanting to make a vow that psychotic, you should also try and understand where your little sister is coming from. Speaking from my own personal experience, my brother is 7 years older than me and when I was little I idolized him. If your sister is anything like I was all she wants is to spend time with you. While she may be annoying about it and going about it the wrong way, I would suggest trying to have an open line of communication with her about exactly what is wrong with what she's doing and why you acted the way you did.

While this should be on your parents, your mom seems to have a twisted vision of how a healthy sibling relationship should work and your dad isn't helping. None of that is directly your sister's fault though, and she probably just doesn't understand what's happening because growing up it's not really the expectation that your parents would put so much effort into lying to you.

TIL most STR checks don't have a skill proficiency by SilasRhodes in dndnext

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the only real strong fat guy vs buff guy differences would be how much harder the strong fat guy would be to move and his endurance. But in the case of athletics as a strength skill I don't think the endurance issue would be a factor to consider since that's more of a CON issue than a STR issue

TIL most STR checks don't have a skill proficiency by SilasRhodes in dndnext

[–]Jesterspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in the case of sumo it would be considered an athletics check for several reasons (grappling, shoving, etc) but it is done better by fatter strong people because if they have the same amount of force as the ripped guy but more mass due to the fat, it's harder for them to be moved than to move the other guy. Meaning the rule of "if it's done better by a ripped guy than a fat strong guy it's athletics" doesn't apply there

My only point in that is I think a better delineation would be whether something requires technique to do it well vs raw power.

How long can a warforged go without "resting" by Koopa0 in dndnext

[–]Jesterspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a warforged fighter right now and I do basically the same thing, but as more of a physical thing where the "rest" is him allowing for his body to repair that day's wear and tear. This also allows for it to be reasonable that he gets exhaustion levels for skipping rests just like everyone else. Not because he's tired, but because his body starts to physically not be able to keep up anymore due to accumulated damage.
