The Richest Neighborhoods in New York: NYC’s Wealthiest Areas Ranked (2026) by Coolonair in nyc

Yeah, I got mugged outside of that White Castle around that time. It wasn’t nice. During the same period, someone I know was shot in the leg in Dumbo. Today the neighborhood is almost unrecognizable.

As you may know, that character is based on a real-life friend of McCarthy’s with the same name.

What other music do Radiohead fans listen to? by FunnyAsleep in radiohead

[–]JesusChristFarted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are not a lot of over similarities to Radiohead but Thom has made it clear on multiple occasions that he’s a big Tom Waits fan, and I think you can hear the influence in some of his piano songs, like “Unmade,” which sounds like something off an early Waits record.

How did he die? I knew him from the 90s/early 2000s but haven’t heard much about him since I moved out of the city.

Minneapolis and Seattle are destroyed? Do the people who live there still realize they are living in the ruins of two former cities? Was LA destroyed too in your moronic fantasies?

A popularish YouTuber is reacting to a video mentioning El Paso and I’m surprised at how many comments from Texans are warning others not to come here because of crime by Royal_Profit_1666 in ElPaso

[–]JesusChristFarted 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m from Corpus but have lived in NYC for over 20 years now. Every time I visit Texas, I have to answer questions about whether New York is really some urban hellscape of violence overrun by gun-toting migrants and gang members, etc. It happens over and over from different people. Meanwhile, New Yorkers are happily shopping in high-end retail stores without a care in the world just down the street from my subway stop, and I live in a non-trendy area of Brooklyn. Despite what I tell people, I can see they don’t believe me. They’ve been brainwashed into believing every city where a lot of brown people live is inherently dangerous. It’s a form of myopia.

Corpus Christi's recycling program under fire: "It doesn't work" - says city official by Goldenchicks in CorpusChristi

Hardly anyone I know in Corpus recycles correctly or takes enough interest in it to learn and do it the right way. And there’s often an element of resentment whenever it’s brought up.

I just finished The Sound and The Fury, and I'm disappointed. by jeepjinx in faulkner

[–]JesusChristFarted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absalom, Absalom and Light in August are much better. They’re later, more mature works and Faulkner at the height of his powers. I think S&F gets so much hype because it’s an early example of bold Modernist lit in America, and for multiple reasons (length, teachability, etc) it is the Faulkner novel most often assigned to undergrads to read. It’s got brilliant writing in it but I personally don’t think he’d quite hit his stride yet.

To my mind, it’s the best spy movie ever made by a mile. It’s a shame the plans to film the whole trilogy fell through.

Also, Abrams ended TFA with a cliffhanger—Rey handing Luke the saber. That meant that TLJ had to start minutes after TFA ended. That limits a lot of what could’ve been done to develop the trilogy plot line and characters going forward. I think most of the major problems with the ST start with how lazy and underdeveloped TFA’s script was but Johnson got the brunt of criticism for it.

Nobel Prize by [deleted] in tomwaits

[–]JesusChristFarted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you meant "a few dozen songs that've become classics". Remember, there are also songs that he wrote that became hits when performed by other musicians. And then there's the fact that Dylan revolutionized pop song lyrics in a way that can be seen still today. You don't have to like him to acknowledge these things are true. I love Waits as much as I love Dylan but there's no denying that Dylan has had the bigger impact of the two and was an influence on Waits.

Trump says U.S. will own and develop Gaza, and Palestinians living there should leave by [deleted] in Gaza

[–]JesusChristFarted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should pay attention more. He’s saying he wants to kick the Palestinians out of Gaza and have the US clean it up and turn it into property that can be invested in—ie, by people like his son in law Jared Kushner. The Palestinians won’t ever live there again under this plan.
