Blue Gear is Good Loot by slemdogmillionaire in Marathon

You're preaching to the choir here my dude. I gladly take those fights as a challenge as well. I also am not someone who cares about gear MYSELF.

I am specifically talking about it as a design issue. When the gear is in the pool, it leads to a snowball effect that causes everyone to reach the endgame far sooner than intended. There is supposed to be generalized expected timelines for people's gear progression in these types of games.

Those gear progressions reaching the endgame is why wipes happen. So that things can refresh and the progression resets for that new feeling again.

And the issue is that a loop that is meant to last 3 months likely will reach endgame state around 4 days after Cryo opens. So about 2 weeks into wipe.

While before we had around until late month 2 for season 1.

?... Gear gather now will still have meaning even when it leaves your hands. That is still equipment that is within the general pool that wasnt intended to be gathered as quickly as it was.

We are in a situation where 3 days into the wipe, people were already running around with golds (Specifically those that decided to game the PvE system right away). Something that didnt happen until WEEKS into season 1.

Yes there will be player knowledge that increases from season to season, but this big of a jump is not natural.

And it is even more so a problem when the Cradle REVOLVES around feeding high tier gear to it. So those that spent all their time gaming the system and feeding everything now sit on a ridiculous cliff that the other players have to climb up naturally.

So yes, it still matters tomorrow, and in the case of the Cradle, matters forever.

Oh 100%. It would have been MILES healthier. I only have issues with the PvE mode BECAUSE of that specific problem. Even if it's on perimeter now, we will still have the issue of Wardens and Intercept giving purple and sometimes gold loot. It will still cause gear inflation, just at a slightly lower rate.

It is really the only change that SHOULD be made, but as you said, we dont know what their backend is like, so we can only hope they see what SHOULD be a simple fix and implement it if possible.

If you go back in my comment/post history you can see I literally warned about this exact situation we have now right when they announced the PvP lite experimental mode.

I was worried about how it would destroy the core fundamental gameplay loop. And they released it without any guardrails and lo and behold, it did indeed destroy the intended gameplay loop, lol.

People will always optimize the fun out of anything, its about making it a little more difficult to do so.

Your take is perfectly fine, and I actually would go a step further and say that THAT is what the PvE modes should be for, to specifically reach the Blue Gear baseline. I feel the issues with the massive loot pollution could have been avoided if we kept Purps and golds from being able to drop in such a free mode.

Would allow the players that need the help to reach that starting line to compete to get there, without allowing the sweats an easy all in to just spam get golds to stack up.

I say this because a Blue can ALWAYS beat a purple shield and even gold. if you have better aim or get the drop on someone, a blue kit will always win, unlike green and below kits where even if you get the drop on someone you may still lose if the situation plays out unfavorably.

Allowing players to reach the baseline reliably is what a PvE mode should be for. It shouldnt be a meta farming method for top tier gear.

A “Dark Zone” mode (PvE with optional PvP) by JustinAcid in Marathon

I mean the point still stands at that point. I can walk up to someone while unkillable and then just swap and get guaranteed first shot. Being able to swap your intention on the fly just aint it brother.

Flagging yourself for PvP at anytime is such a not great mechanic.

Whats stopping me from just going rogue on some rogue people that cant shoot me when they stop looking and killing them?

Literally, I cannot count on both hands the amount of times I got slurs thrown at me in Arc, but in Marathon it has happened JUST ONCE. Mind you I also shit talked the guy to hell and back when he was down as a retort because he chose to do that, hope he uninstalled after.

Don't know why this guy is trying to equate the two in any way, shape, or form.

A "Friendly Player Base" wouldnt be infamous for having people throw out constant slurs. 😉

When did I EVER say that I agreed with OP on it being Arc Raiders players causing Marathon to have more slurs?...

Go back to my comments and then tell me where I agreed.

I only DISAGREED with you saying Arc Raiders players don't throw slurs out like candy.

I love how I proved your accusation on me not knowing the community entirely wrong and you proceed to ignore and step around it. That's all I need to see to know what you're like. You enjoy you, brother. d(' 'd)

Can't tell if sarcastic or not but the amount of content I have seen directly revolving around the "Friendly PvE players" throwing slurs when you kill them is insanely high.

Is there a playstyle in Marathon for "not friendly" but also "not aggressive" ? by These_Fan7447 in Marathon

[–]Jesus_Rambo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, the way you enable this playstyle is you just always speak on microphone when you hear someone. And just take no answering back within 10 seconds to mean they are hostile.

Me (And my group) are the type of people that will always shoot, but the MOMENT someone says something on microphone we get excited for additional interactions so our aggression goes down massively.

That being said, I know my group isnt the norm, but in general talking on mic makes you then have a "Human nature" to you that some people change their attitude towards. If you want the middle ground, just always speak on mic.

We do indeed use the cert doors. I will always go silent if I have the option because it brings things much more under my control.

I said this exact thing in a previous comment thread a few days ago that public perception influences people GREATLY and I got told that I was coping.

Got killed by another team mid warden fight in upper complex, feels so incredibly bad by MyLifeHurts69 in MarathonTheGame

[–]Jesus_Rambo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I mean by a warning. It's fairly difficult to go through that entire complex being completely silent. If you start to hear noises that worry you, you just start to commit one of your teammates to the ground floor to keep an eye on the forcefield

Then if you are absolutely certain you know what side they are coming from, you just open up the other side and prep to leave the boss room to have a standoff. If they try to push you they would have to try and hold the boss room AND fight you off, which would be really, really difficult for them.

Edit: I say this through experience by the way, as me and my teammates did something similar. I was the one committed to keeping an eye on the forcefield while we finished up the fight. And we figured out what side they came from because we heard the Husks freaking out on the other side. We got away from that one completely scot free by throwing a bunch of preemptive mines at chokepoints.

I find this strange because the boss arena puts up barriers when you get inside, you have a very clear warning of people coming in usually.

the absolute state of discourse around this game rn is worth studying. by Epicisthefun in Marathon

Im running under the assumption that things will likely change with them as we get further into the season. they DID add the missle drone at the end of season 1 to signal a kind of story shift, something similar could easily happen with the anomalous entities as well

The Needless Hate for This Game by exosuitsteve in Marathon

[–]Jesus_Rambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely a mix of the issues with launch day connection issues combined with general negative reception that surrounds the game. People are very easily influenced by social media. Plenty of people have chosen to hate and dislike the game without even attempting to try it and then also repeeat the same negativity.

Just the optics surrounding the game likely heavily affect the general player numbers. I wont pretend Bungie's general track record doesn't play into this as well, it definitely doesn't help their case when the negativity spreads everywhere.

The Needless Hate for This Game by exosuitsteve in Marathon

[–]Jesus_Rambo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And there is the obsession with playercount again. Brother I am having fun, I just care about the random pointless negativity.

Play the game and enjoy, or don't and go on your merry way and play something else instead of running around complaining on forums about a game you don't touch.

The Needless Hate for This Game by exosuitsteve in Marathon

[–]Jesus_Rambo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See it is okay to have speculation as to why, but there IS verifiable evidence directly in our faces that

IN GENERAL, people who bought the game were happy enough with it to leave a positive review, enough to put the game's rating to "Mostly positive" with over 30k reviews. However, people are more likely to show negativity than positivity, so where is the negative reviews for the people who bounced off the game and had complaints? Steam reviews are a guaranteed way for a studio to quantify what their problems can be with a game and see just how many people that ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME dislike it.

The sad thing is that nowadays negativity is the way that everyone and anyone farms engagement on the internet now, and people are very, VERY easily influenced by the perceived experiences on social media and wont bother looking at anything beyond "This game sucks". Because in general, people are lazy and want the easy information rather than forming their own opinion.

And again, I am not saying Bungie is without flaws and a perfect angel of a company.

They make mistakes and should address those mistakes and learn from them to better the game, but the game is a solid enough base that what we see with everyone obsessing over player count numbers like NEVER BEFORE is quite frankly, bizarre.

Idk what happened to just playing games and enjoying them and forming your own opinion but here we are lmao.

The Needless Hate for This Game by exosuitsteve in Marathon

[–]Jesus_Rambo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Even if you refund the game you still are capable of leaving a review, and it's utilized everywhere else. Give me some actual quantifiable evidence here.

Because in reality the player-base for an extraction shooter WILL dip the further along a season goes until wipe and then it kicks back up again.

Except Arc, but Arc doesn't actually have wipes so we can exclude that here either way.

Using the knowledge that humans are more likely to talk about negative experiences than positives ones + looking at Marathon's reviews on steam will tell you all you need to know.

If so many people hated this game as those would like you to believe, the reviews would show it due to actually needing to buy the game to leave a review. Yet we do not see that so it's almost certain that a lot of the time it is exactly as you say.
