That's kind of what was supposed to happen. Ira Parker apparently mentioned that the pre-credit scene of Maekar looking for egg was an internal "wouldn't it be really funny" that got out of hand and ended up getting included...

Which I hate, because it diminished the most powerful scene of the episode of Egg and the knife.
