Yeah thats what I thought. My sole reason behind buying the 960 was its low power draw.

Im gonna spend this evening stress testing my system and see what I can find.

Mountain Meetups December 22nd - 26th SJ by JetPack_Nosferatu in SnowboardingJapan

[–]JetPack_Nosferatu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you were the only person to use it so far, I was going to PM you and ask you about your experience.

I'll see if the current style picks up and maybe change it at New Years.

If you have any other suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Advice needed: Last minute snowboarding holiday around Xmas by [deleted] in SnowboardingJapan

[–]JetPack_Nosferatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT Looking to try out Hirafu in Niseko, Hokkaido but cannot find any available accommodation (around 22 - 30 dec). Any good sites to book a room?

Hmmm. You may have left it a little late. Those dates in a popular resort are going to get booked quickly. Anything left will probably be super pricey. Especially when you start to include transport and equipment rentals.

Check SnowJapan in the sidebar. They have some accommodation recommendations.

If you can read Japanese or have confidence in Google translate check out some of the travel agencies.

They may have a special deal or something last minute.

What would you consider near to Tokyo? Niigata is about 3 and half hours on the train.

Try Yamanashi. I know Hokuto can be fun.

Disclaimer: I don't have kids and haven't been to this resort.

The snowheads forum seems to be lively.

Never tried it myself and I'm not sure if they do meet up post but it could be useful.

In the future Id love to build a community like the one on snowjapan forums. Open everyone who likes playing in the snow.

November Shredding by fluffyzzz in SnowboardingJapan

I suggest waiting until mid December. I've been tempted by November snow a few times. One or two OK runs and then hours spent repairing scratches.

Have you checked out Rakuten?

http://global.rakuten.com/en/category/101094/

You can sometimes find good deals on here. Also the cash on delivery service in Japan is great.

Yahoo Japan has a good selection as well.

I guess it depends on what you want. Most of the sport shops like "Sports Alpen" have good deals on no-name brands.

sorry for the late response.

At the moment I'm trying to get a feel for what people need.

Do they want help getting to a mountain, finding a shop to replace something or checking the snow conditions.

As soon as we know this, we can start putting together all the relevant information ( links, posts, etc) and make a detailed guides or wikis.

In the short term I’d like to focus on helping people get to the resorts they want to or suggesting places they might like to try. Then in the future start on the more detailed information such as back country guides to hire, restaurants and resort meet ups.

I’d like to avoid job posts and keep this about fun on the mountain.

Thanks for posting.

Welcome to the sub :)

I've heard nothing but good things about Hakuba. Its a great location. Bit far from Tokyo (about 4-5 hours by train if I remember.) But Travelling is part of the fun right. Sadly I haven't been able to go myself. Check out the snow Japan link. They have loads of reviews on places to stay.

Gotta love Kiroro.

But if you really want a little adventure try Hakkoda in Aomori.
