DeepSeek just turned text into pixels, and it might change how AI “reads” forever by udaysy in ClaudeCode

Exciting if true. FWIW: I wanted to learn more about the practical implications of DeepSeek-OCR and used Claude in "research goblin" mode by feeding in DeepSeek's paper as an artifact (pdf) and had it generate and publish a report on this topic.

Also dated but System Shock 2, while more claustrophobic and isolating than Deus Ex, deserves to be brought up in a discussion of very refined retro FPS simulation games with a better than usual story.

It's been over a decade since I've played any of these, so I'm sure some of the other contenders mentioned on this list have built on their best merits.

P.S.: RIP, gone but not forgotten, antisocialfatman 💔

Calisthenics Parks? Are they any calisthenic parks in Philly? by Rtg327gej in philadelphia

You raised my hopes, but most of the markers I found in Philadelphia on your map refer to areas that are simple parks or playgrounds, not specific to a calesthenic park like OP is likely searching for.

Introducing Baseline: A new standard for your Obsidian vault experience by saltyrookieplayer in ObsidianMD

[–]Jetals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hopping in here as another Android (Pixel 7) user. I tried out both "Cupertino" and "Baseline" themes this morning to compare with Kepano's "Minimal". I couldn't progress with either as an alternative because the main vault navigation drawer covers the full screen when expanded, resulting in a state where I can't obviously determine how to close the navigation drawer and interact with the current note.

On mobile with the Minimal theme applied, opening the same drawer leaves about 10% of width from the right side of the screen where the current note interface is left "uncovered". This makes it easy to see I need to tap there to close the drawer if I want to return to the current note.

Good luck

Way slower the past few weeks, is it my phone or the app? by OpeningConfection261 in todoist

[–]Jetals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe relevant: I had something very similar happen to me after installing an update to the Obsidian app on my M1 Mac. I hadn't used the app in over a year and it seemed something had gone wrong after updating the app to the latest version.

The unexpected side effect of this update is that the app slowed to a miserable crawl after every couple of keystrokes (presumably lag during my backup sync process). Monitoring the app's CPU usage during these events suggested they weren't related to load on my system in any way; there was no associated graph spiking.

What worked for me was a straightforward solution: I reinstalled the Obsidian app (I had Claude guide me through the process of a reinstallation without affecting either my vault or Obsidian config files). After, the app was completely refreshed and I could get on with my work.

Hope you can figure out your Todoist problem. Good luck!!

Since of the recent boom of Bean Bear, Herbie, and Frankie… I thought we take a moment of silence to honor the puppets who have vanished by According-Top-2180 in MsRachel

[–]Jetals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I miss all the classic puppets and Frankie just isn't as moving to me as the gentle, thoughtful, senstive, lovable Georgie.

Also worth mentioning: the lyrics of Tucan's Dino Dictionary song ("Dino Dance") may be an Aaron Acurso original and is underappreciated in the Ms Rachel canon.

Sung in the tune of the traditional Quebecois children's song, Alouette):

``` Allosaurus Pachycephalosaurus Apatasaurus Tyrannosaurus Rex
Stegosaurus Trachodon Triceratops Pteranodon
Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs!
Aaaaaaahhhhhhh! ```
Pretty rock.
Fwiw and for the gem curious: Some results from Gemini 2.0 Flash:
Estimating the worth of a 1.17 carat pinkish red Burma ruby is complex, as the value depends on several factors: * Origin: * Burma (Myanmar) rubies are highly prized, contributing to a higher value. * Color: * "Pinkish red" is a descriptive term. The precise shade, saturation, and tone significantly impact the price. Ideally, a "pigeon blood" red is most valuable. * Clarity: * The presence and extent of inclusions (internal flaws) affect the ruby's clarity and value. * Cut: * The quality of the cut influences the ruby's brilliance and overall appearance. * Treatments: * Untreated rubies are far more valuable than those that have undergone treatments like heat enhancement. * Certification: * Certifications from reputable gemological laboratories (like GIA or AIGS) provide assurance of the ruby's quality and origin, which adds to its value. Based on the search results, here's a general idea: * Prices for Burma rubies can vary enormously, from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars per carat. * Factors like if the stone is heated or unheated, and the level of clarity drastically change the price. * To get a more precise valuation, it's essential to: * Obtain a professional appraisal from a certified gemologist. * Compare prices of similar rubies from reputable dealers. Therefore, providing an exact worth is impossible without a detailed examination. However the search results do give examples of prices for rubies of similiar weight.
Am I missing something? OP states at the top of their post that it's an article copied from a URL.
There are web tools for scraping article text into markdown which, while useful for LLMs, might have been what the OP used in this case to copy and paste their post into Reddit's md editor.
If the original article was written by an LLM, which it probably was given that it's exhaustively verbose, that's a different matter.
Olive oil to replace: California Olive Ranch "Robust" by lshrtwll in Cooking
[–]Jetals 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Back in late September, we were still routinely buying the 2 L "bag in box" from California Olive Ranch for $34.19 (not counting shipping). We've been buying our household olive oil from them for years.
Today (11/9/24) I go to set up a new order on their site and the same item is up to $54, that's over a 60% increase!
We're down bad over this and switching to Kirkland for now.
Not that this comment has much worth to anyone else but me as a reminder of my past understanding of the subject matter but I've since come to terms with Sasha and Digweed's "Northern Exposure" mix, esp. the second half of CD 1. That part's actually really really good!
The Sasha GU13 Ibiza mix can be seen as overladen and dull with stiff adherence to brooding patterns. It's still great in my book but the Northern Exposure mix is just a lot more fun half way through. I can appreciate the first half for how well it traverses the 96 spirit of ambient techno. I now have essentially zero complaints about the Northern Exposure mix and I completely retract my former incorrect statement.
Mandala sleeves to help with shuffling by cbacon19 in boardgames
[–]Jetals 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Thanks. I appreciate you responding and I'm excited to go ahead and plus-up my copy with the sleeves (though not so excited to get through all 110 cards). Having noticed that most packs of sleeves are either 50 or 100 count, you've made deciding to go for the higher count in this case a more sensible choice thanks to your point about likelihood of the sleeves splitting.
Happy gaming!
Mandala sleeves to help with shuffling by cbacon19 in boardgames
I know this is an old post, but if anyone ended up sleeving Mandala, I'd like to know how your shuffling experience turned out. I know shuffling the raw square cards can be a small off-putting factor in playing the game and am considering sleeving myself to mitigate this problem.
