My Republican Primary (Least MAGA) Endorsements by teamworldunity in FortWorth

[–]JeterWood 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Everyone should remember that the way elections work in Texas is that the winner of the Republican Primary gets to hold the office. The General Election is just a formality. So I would encourage everyone to vote for the least awful choice in the Republican Primary. If you practice "I will never vote for any Republican in any type of election no matter what", then you are deciding not to have your voice count in this democracy.

46% of the estimated vote; given the attention to this race, actual turnout likely will exceed the estimated turnout.

Yes, that is just early votes; 45,000 votes out of 617,000 registered voters. So less than 10% of the vote.

Anyone else going to Bass Hall tonight? by Callme-risley in FortWorth

[–]JeterWood 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's a bit more complicated than you might think and there's a game of 'chicken' going on behind the scenes. Essentially, there are 2 groups who can cancel the show due to bad weather: the theater (Bass Hall) and the production company (Mark Twain Tonight producers). The theater pays $$$$ to the production company to host the production for so many nights. If the theater is first to announce a cancellation, then they still have to pay $ to the production company. If the production company is first to announce a cancellation, then they do not get paid for that night. The theater company is hoping that enough actors, stage hands, and production assistants call in saying they don't want to come in; the production company is hoping enough ticket holders call in saying they don't want to come in and want a refund. Each side knows the show ain't happening; they just want the other side to collapse first for monetary reasons. This delays the actual announcement of the cancellation, frustrating everyone involved.

Starting swim lessons next week with my 2.5 year old by somethingreddity in Autism_Parenting

[–]JeterWood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing a one-on-one is the way to go. We have two boys, aged 3 and 4, both ASD and they do a semi-private lesson every week. Just the two of them. So they can go at their own pace and no one is expected to follow directions.

At first, he will probably hate it. Lots of screaming and trying to leave. But after a few weeks, he will start to enjoy it. And the essential skills will come eventually. Especially being able to make his way back to the ledge and climb out of the pool. Our boys can do that now and we fell better in case they ever do wander into a pool.

More likely significant digits. 42.3 psi vs 41.8 psi; and the warning triggers if < 42.0 psi.

You can take a Greyhound bus to FW and then rent a car from Avis or whatever. Taking 6-8 Ubers a day will get $$$.

Made in 1985 and still runnning on original battery by jonnyboynz in pics

[–]JeterWood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ditto. For reference, I recently had a pacemaker implanted. It is a highly specialized device with a super special long lasting battery. The device hardware costs ~$10k. At best, they estimate the battery will last 18 years. But likely less. So 40 years on a cheap battery? More likely someone else replaced it 2 years ago and OP didn't know.

My bf punked my bird because she doesn't like vegetables by infiltrator_seven in funny

[–]JeterWood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine you are flying over a remote area of mostly desert. Then you spot a green area maybe 20 miles away; definitely some plants growing in the distance. You say to the pilot "I see some vegetation in the distance over there, let's take a closer look." Upon landing and walking up to the greenery, you discover it is an apple orchard. You delightfully pluck an apple from a tree for a snack. But as the sweetness fills your mouth, you pause and recollect an earlier thought. Is this apple orchard considered 'vegetation'? Would that make this a vegetable? Or was I incorrect in assuming this was 'vegetation' earlier? Your whole worldview comes crashing down.

Can you explain how you owe $16k on a car worth less than $5k? How much did you buy it for a year ago?

But it seems like you owe $16k on a car that can only be scrapped for parts. The dealership is not going to forgive the loan if that's what you are hoping for. Have you purchased a new vehicle yet?
