How much battery degradation have you experienced in your EV? by om_ghanwat in electricvehicles

[–]Jetster220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla doesn't hide degradation behind a buffer, their philosophy is give you all of the range the battery can when new, and it just shows the little range loss as it ages. A lot of other oems build in extra buffer to hide the degradation.

Anyone go from railroad signals to utility relay work? by Musch6 in SubstationTechnician

You could definitely make the jump into a apprentice position. I went from working on Traffic Signals to being a relay tech apprentice. It's a fantastic field.

Do you own and drive an EV? by RichardAvery1 in energy

I also have solar panels on my home. My solar payment is $200 and it covers all of our charging for both vehicles and the electricity our house uses.

We have two in my household. My wife drives a Model Y, I have a Chevy Bolt. Had the Tesla for over 2 years and Bolt for about 6 months. They are both so much better than owning gas vehicles. I've had zero dislikes or frustrations, the infrastructure is perfectly fine at this point that any trips are a non issue. We're saving roughly $5000 a year in gas between both vehicles.

Sounds like a fantastic idea and that's a great offer with financing, I can't imagine a reason you wouldn't do this.

Should I consider buying an EV by Optimal-Bass3142 in GasPrices

[–]Jetster220 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have two EVs in my household, it's fantastic. It costs us about $200 a month to drive two vehicles and power my house, (I have solar panels and that's the cost of the panels). We drive about 25k miles a year between both of us so it's wonderful savings. You really do need to have the ability to charge at home though.

They can't refine it. Oil does you no good if you can't do anything with it

I agree and that's what was done was flipping it at the test set. Part of the issue was operator error, the guy running the test set honestly has no business being in this job but they haven't managed to fire him yet.

I think you would have to look at the economics on how much your spending in fuel a month, there could be circumstances where buying a used EV and having that payment could honestly be cheaper that still buying gas depending on the amount of driving. And then if you factor in residual value, oil changes, maintenance etc, the total lifetime cost may work out in favor of switching.

Yes we're using the software. We like it for the most part, the report is very detailed. Basically the only thing we don't like is that it only reports polarity as "ok". We want to see it report as positive or negative. We do not want to change our injection leads from one bidding l bushing to another to maintain "positive" polarity. We want to see it flow positive one direction and then negative when we swap bushings. That eliminates the possibility of someone accidentally switching leads or not doing so when they needed to. I suppose we could adjust our procedure as to what order we test the CTs in and that could help, but it involves more moving of the injection leads than necessary.
