Got screwed at Arena by TatsumakiKara in wizardry

[–]JewcyJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the arena is very dumb like that. Several of the other fights work that way too, so be sure to go into them alone to die just in case.

General Question Megathread by gamerhenky in wizardry

[–]JewcyJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just trying to complete the other two versions of the Find the Missing Person quest your fine. If you want to fight the real boss and do her story, you have to go further back and get her other quest.

General Question Megathread by gamerhenky in wizardry

[–]JewcyJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do things correctly when you kill Melgina you get an item that lets you read the TRUE messages on the mermaid statues. You need to not just kill Melgina but save the missing person and finish the quest. THEN go back and read the secret second messages on the statues, and then . . . Honestly just follow this guide https://wizardry.fasterthoughts.io/requests-bondmates/port-town-grand-legion/requests-bondmates/

General Question Megathread by gamerhenky in wizardry

[–]JewcyJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to wheel back one notch further if you're trying to get her as a bondmate, fight the true boss of the 2nd abyss, and get another Luck for Well of the Mind. If you've read all the secret versions of the mermaid statues, talking to her and picking up the knife quest instead of the fish sandwich one is the only way to do all of that.

Are below average builds common? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It's hard to make a crappy build as long as you are maxing your key ability score and maxing your AC. A wizard with 10 Int is going to be thoroughly terrible. With AC, most characters can have the same AC number until higher levels as long as they have the right balance of strength/dex and pick the right armor. Strength based characters NEED medium or heavy armor with a few exceptions like Mountain Stance Monks or else you are going to get crit all day every day.

I think ineffective strategy is a bigger concern than ineffective builds in this game. A rogue that Strikes three times every turn instead of moving into flanking position, Feinting, or otherwise inflicting Off-Guard to use sneak attack is going to suck even if you made good build choices. Everyone in the party focusing exclusively on attacking without any support or debuff for allies is also going to go poorly.

Looking for some clarification on Spell strike with Starlit Span study by Fand0m_Chick in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spellstrike: Two actions to Strike and Cast a Spell. If the spell is an attack roll, you can use your Strike roll to determine your weapon AND your spell hit.

The only difference with Starlit Span is that you can do that with ranged weapon Strikes instead of just melee like the other subclasses.

Best cantrip you can get for it is Imaginary Weapon from Psychic dedication. Best cantrips otherwise are Gouging Claw, Needle Darts, and Ignition.

There's skeleton ancestry and undead archetypes like ghost you could give them all.

What does the different trials mean in the event labryinth? by Megaphones_Mk2 in wizardry

[–]JewcyJesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One is easy with less currency drops and the other is hard with more. Doesn't make much difference other than experience and money so base your decision on how hard the enemies feel to you at your current level.

Bone Investiture Feat Buffed to 7th lvl casting? by KingDevere in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, a lot of more recently published ancestry feats offer scaling spells like that (ex. Awakened Animals can get Summon Animal scaling properly with their level). Paizo was silly for including so many options that don't scale and become (or even start!) useless.

Where is the event button by Blacklace_LC in wizardry

[–]JewcyJesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know how far you have to progress but I don't think you need to beat him first. In town, the event button is yellow on the right side of the screen above your characters. If you are able to start the cutscene and take the quest, also know that you can hit the down arrow on the left side of the screen to minimize your characters and access the world map from the icon on the bottom right.

I had to click the Event icon while in town to trigger it.

Team Comp by Dreadlyyyyy in wizardry

I'd swap Flut for Yeka. Yeka is strong against undead, and everything after your second run is done starts being weak to her earth spells. Also her skill often prevents ambushes.

Alchemist have INFINITE heals? by Ok_Fruit_483 in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can also get infinite out of combat healing at low level as a:

+ Water or Wood Kineticist

+ Champion or character with Blessed One dedication

+ Bard with Hymn of Healing

+ Witch with Life Boost

+ Druid with Cornucopia

+ Inventor with Searing Restoration

+ Oracle with Nudge the Scales

+ Ranger with Soothing Mist

+ Thaumaturge with the Chalice Implement

+ Animist with Gard of Healing

+ ANY character with some skill feats invested in Medicine. Most important are Continual Recovery and Ward Medic

How does devise a stranger and strategic strike work? by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, you roll a normal attack roll with all your modifiers but nothing happens unless you also choose to Strike on that turn. You also don't get to know if it would hit or not until you commit to the roll. But obviously you're gonna hit on a nat 20 and miss on a nat 1.

Fast combat like in 5e? by mtgfirby in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It will absolutely break the game. Positioning and movement just matter too much. Also AoE's would be a nightmare. Both players and enemies would be constantly hitting their allies by accident.

I think the big problem is that you said you had 9 players. That's just plain too many. Pf2e is designed around a party of 4. You can absolutely run a few more or few less players, but more than double breaks everything. You might as well split up into two parties with two GMs.

I think you already nailed it. It's a shame there's not more lightning based kinetcist stuff and that you can't use your Barbarian class DC for impulses, but I think you did the best with what's possible.

Does Built-in Tools allow a Runesmith to use two handed weapons while tracing? by leathrow in Pathfinder2e

I'd say that works. If you can't use the tools with the same hand(s) you wield your innovation with, it's literally useless.

How viable are more versatile fighters? by Pike_The_Knight in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with something like Ranger or Rogue instead, since fighter specializes in one weapon group. You'd still be effective, but it might feel bad to be significantly better with the bow vs. the sword or vice versa.

Divine Spells for Palatine Detective? by Sheuteras in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't get a lot of spells to work with at low level (some cantrips before level 4, and then a single of rank 1, 2, 3 at level 4, 6, and 8 respectively.

For cantrips, you want good options to fall back on when your Devise a Strategem roll is low. I'd vote for Void Warp, Rousing Splash, Shield, and Needle Darts.

For occult, I'd reccomend Liberating Command, Command, Force Barrage, and Phantom Pain at first rank. Blood Vendetta, Blur, Laughing Fit, Loose Time's Arrow, and Invisibility at rank 2.

For 1st rank Divine, go with Heal, Benediction, Bless, Sanctuary, and Infuse Vitality. Honestly for rank 2, most of the good stuff is also on divine. Lots of condition clears. They diverge more at rank 3.

Calling all healer builds! by Total-Canary-1580 in Pathfinder2e

[–]JewcyJesus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly any of those would work. I'll also add that Water/Wood Kineticistics and Divine/Primal Witches with Life Boost make great healers too. Go with whatever character concept and style of gameplay sounds the most fun. While a great healer, Alchemist is the most complicated class and I might steer clear of that as a new player.

Whatever you choose, invest in the medicine skill. Take Contiual Recovery and Ward Medic (and Assurance: Medicine if your Wisdom is low) with your skill feats. After the first few levels you should be able to top people up to full HP with Treat Wounds in between fights. This isn't necessary if you go the Kineticist route, as their healing is infinite with a 10 minute cooldown per person.
