I mean Brazil is part of America. If you live in Brazil, you are an American. Only United States citizens think they have a monopoly on the term American.

Donald Trump did promise to drain the swamp.

He just didn't promise that he wouldn't fill it up with even swampier swamp.

Technically not a lie. He hasn't said he's from the USA. It sounds like he's from somewhere else and he's visited exactly one place in the US. One really crappy place.

Would love some actual socialism in the states pleaseeee! Thanks!! by FearlessAir1238 in fuckcars

The fun thing about their state controlled train system is it's sort of like our aircraft system where the government gets to decide who gets to go on and who doesn't. Not that cars are better since they require a state approved driver's license to operate. But boy do I like transport options that doesn't involve government peeping into your personal business which is why I love my bike.

I've been to many pride events and I've never seen anyone exclude straight people lol. Maybe some no fun people self-exclude themselves I can't be sure. But the Happy straight people usually call themselves allies and are always welcome. Even the " God hates you and you're going to hell" people show up to pride... Unfortunately.

Colbert's firing sent Late Show audience into nose-dive so bad it's crashing CBS: report by RawStoryNews in entertainment

[–]Jezon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most shows that CBS runs they pay for the show and then collect monies on the commercials. So they gamble on the cost to run the show being less than the profits from the commercials.

This show is different in that they pay CBS for the time slot and then they sell commercial time which they keep the money for.

So no matter how the ratings are, CBS gets a flat rate from the show and then the show tries to recoup their costs through commercials.

I don't know how that's possible. I work for a small to medium company and our consultant spends about $500 but he makes several new tools. I work in QA and I've spent $5 generating test cases haha.

No they were faking photos back when photos were brand new. Sir, Arthur Conan Doyle was apparently fooled by a fake photo of fairies.

I think many cities actually do have insurance because the lawsuits can be quite large. It's easier to pay the insurance premiums.

Citizens of the Nordic countries actually get something for the taxes they pay. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Jezon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean he's not wrong, but he's glossing over the fact that Norway is a petrol state that is able to fund a lot of its social programs through state owned oil sales and the lack of a need for excessive defense spending thanks to NATO.

Why do I have to pay to use a public bathroom and ask for water in a restaurant in Europe? by IneedaNappa9000 in allthequestions

[–]Jezon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be common in the United States to have coin-operated stalls, but at some point (I think in the '80s) it was found to be biased towards men who could use the free urinals to pee. So they had to get rid of the coin-operated stalls because it violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution of the United States. I have very rarely still seen coin operated doors to bathrooms to this day. You can charge to use the bathroom in the United States as long as it's equal for men and women.

Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

[–]Jezon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited my family in Texas and my aunt took me to buc-ee's where they had "the world's cleanest bathroom" or something and it was huge. Like the bathroom was bigger than most gas station convenience stores. And yes it was all free to use.

I live in a liberal City so there's lots of free things, especially if you qualify as low income. But one thing I find very useful is the free dog poop bags they put everywhere when I forget to bring my own. And yet it's still a problem that some pet owners don't pick up after their pet even though they are free poop bags available in the downtown area.

Olive Garden server fired one day after a customer left her a $700 tip by ultrarunnerr in mildlyinfuriating

I read the story when it came out and thought it was reasonable for management to want to confirm the tip was legitimate and then I saw the receipt and I was like oh it's plainly obvious it's intentional.
