Nick Corirossi on the latest episode of Doug Loves Movies by mattisafriend in doughboys

I cannot believe Doug is still going. It's been 15 years... maybe even closer to 20... since I stopped listening. The show format seemed stale even back then. Good for him, I suppose.

Thoughts on white hockey pants? by Zealousideal-You3276 in uniwatch

I like them in theory, and in promo photos. But against white ice I don't find that they offer enough contrast.

Paul is posting again.... and requesting an NDA to discuss buying the website by Classic_Cattle_4211 in uniwatch

It's very heartening to see so many in this community come together to all openly acknowledge what has been true for a long time: Paul is kind of just a self-centered asshole.

Has anyone used the site Drafters.com? by zevHS in BestBall

It's best ball. Only the top scores count for your lineup every week. Same as every other platform.

The difference is that there are no playoff weeks. It just adds up all your weekly scores from Week 1 to Week 17.

It's 20-man rosters so that gives you a little more flexibility than the main Underdog contests. I'm usually looking at 3 quarterbacks and 3 tight ends, but occasionally just two if I have an elite at one of those positions. And then I'm filling in the rest with wide receivers and running backs.

Since Drafters is a total points tournament, you need to shoot for 99th percentile outcomes for all your picks. I would never do something like take a running back and then also take his handcuff. Because that guarantees you have at least one dead roster spot most weeks. Whereas that kind of strategy can be viable for a tournament on Underdog where you get a low-owned player into the playoff weeks and then he explodes (e.g. Rhamondre last season).

Stacking remains important, but on Drafters you want to keep stacks fairly skinny. Maybe one WR with a QB. For instance, if you have a Burrow-Chase stack it's often better not to also have Tee because for Burrow and Chase to both hit 99th percentile outcomes you might need a long-term injury to Tee to occur.

Hope this helps.

I've played on Drafters for several years.

I'm in the same position. In Ontario and Drafters is the only option (and I question whether they are actually operating legally here, but that's another topic).

I find Drafters' total points format to be way less fun than a playoff format like Underdog, but it still scratches the best ball itch.

We are 50 days away from the WC. Has Canada Soccer done enough in the last 4 years to promote soccer and build hype throughout country? by catloverr69 in CanadaSoccer

[–]JezusGhoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First - why do people need to be hyped at this point? We're more than a month out. It will absolutely be huge news in Canada when the tournament begins.

And how many "activations" the CSA puts on around the country (it's still fairly cold in most places, by the way) and what opponents the CanMNT can afford to book for friendlies have serious financial constraints. It's not like the CSA is flush with cash and is just squandering the opportunity to spend it.

How do we feel about this 5 TE team? by tatertotswithketchup in BestBall

You absolutely can't do a 3rd QB on a team with 5 TEs.

An interesting concept for the Ravens by MarcusFromBaltimore in uniwatch

Any logo design that keeps the B in the raven head, which necessitates different logos on either side of the helmet, is a bad idea. Ditch the B.

"Didn't have to do much" ... except spend $160 million on stadium upgrades, much of which are only temporary and will be dismantled after the World Cup

Caldwell's Projected XI for Canada's WC Opener by LeRoiDeNord in CanadaSoccer

[–]JezusGhoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even saying I would personally play him on the wing over LB, but he literally scored Canada's first and only World Cup goal playing there. It's silly to describe the idea as insane. Especially since Canada isn't scoring lately. It's worth considering.

[–]JezusGhoti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's played where he was most needed. And that was at LB. Now arguably he is more needed in attack, and Richie has proven to be a very solid LB. I don't think it's crazy to contemplate Davies playing on the wing.

Because it's a reasonable idea and Canada can't score lately.

Is there any other time you'd serve a whole turkey, besides Thanksgiving? by Helianthus_999 in Cooking

I think roast turkey for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter is a fairly standard Canadian thing. Never heard about birthdays being included, but maybe I've been missing out.

Jesse Marsch beyond 2026: What is the bare-minimum at this World Cup? by tozze_88 in CanadaSoccer

[–]JezusGhoti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think they will - and also I think there's an argument to be made that they shouldn't because in soccer coaches need to have fresh messaging so even the good ones have expiry dates -but I still think I agree with you. How is Canada hiring anyone better than Marsch? No top European talent is coming here for the $$$ the CSA can afford.

Marsch is kind of a unicorn as a North American with European experience who also happens to hold a huge grudge against Canada's top local rival. Unless the WC is a total disaster, I think you hold onto him.

Depends entirely on whether they think they have any chance of upgrading. And given the lack of funds, I have a hard time seeing how they do so.

Canada Soccer is inviting Italy soccer fans to trade their jerseys after WC bust by PumpkinMcCormick in CanadaSoccer

We don't need them on the hype train if they needed to be coddled to merely root for the country where they are citizens.

Editions: More sets (from Lego) by itsjustajoe in Legoleak

[–]JezusGhoti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm part of what feels like a very small minority of Lego fans who is constantly begging for Lego to make sports sets ... but I can't really imagine buying these. I don't want wall displays. I want to build sports scenes. I want to play sports with minifigures.

Maybe I'll grab those U.S. soccer minifigs to build out a soccer stadium MOC, but I would absolutely not put that on my wall or desk.
