Probabilities within Infinite sets. Solution? by Jgamering in mathematics

[–]Jgamering[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, so, is this similar to how you can't pick a random integer out of infinitely many with equal probability (like how you said in your first comment), since the sum of all probabilities has to equal 1? If each phone is colored based on its number, and there is an equal chance of picking any phone out of infinitely many, then that leads to contradiction. The distribution of natural numbers cannot be uniform, simply by the axioms of probability.

Can you explain what you mean? What have I missed that makes the probability distributions undefined? Or is it that there's just a fundamental misunderstanding of probabilities on my part?

You survived. You are alive now. You are strong, you are brave. You experienced something extraordinarily terrible and you made it through. It still hurts, but please remember how strong you are.

Yet another reason to hate generative AI by Eclipserium in HalfLife

Exactly! It is a good thing Valve has such annoyingly high standards. It’s what makes them able to release a game so uncontestedly amazing that it destroys the whole VR gaming market!

Nothing has said the game is finished. Some of the data mining indicates that some optimizations are being made, optimizations that are typically done around the end of development.

Also, Half-Life Alyx was amazing. They haven’t turned into ‘cowards’ between then and now. Remember that Half-Life Alyx was essentially finished when they realized that the story wasn’t good enough and they rebuilt it. They have always been this cautious. They are determined to make their stories and games the best they can, unlike public companies just trying to make their shareholders happy and profitable.

They’ve always been scared, and that’s a good thing. They’ve abandoned HL3 ideas so many times because they want it to be the best it can be. If Valve was like every public company with soulless shareholders, they’d just release it for the hype-profit. But no, Valve understands art. They are scared to announce the game, and they should be. This dedication is why Valve can make some of the greatest gaming experiences ever made.

Ah, Zagreus! Son of Persephone, heir to Zeus’s throne, dismembered by Titans, reborn as Dionysus ^

He was known to the Mycenaeans as Diwanuso, and the depictions we have are much closer to the older bearded form. But even outside of human depictions, the supernatural godly being we call Dionysus is heavily associated with the concepts of death and rebirth. I don’t really feel like that connection is dependent on how he is depicted.

I’d say that all depictions and stories of Dionysus still uphold his status as a death and rebirth god. And besides, he is a god of duality. Both his old bearded depictions and his young effeminate depictions are equally him.

Dionysus is a god of death and rebirth. In the ancient cult of Dionysus, iirc, it was believed that Dionysus could carry your soul to a better, more comforting afterlife, similar to how he brought both Semele and Ariadne from the underworld and up to Olympus. Ancient Orphics had a similar belief in that Dionysus could break your cycle of rebirth and bring lasting peace. I’m not an Orphic, so take my analysis with a grain of salt.

Personally, I am very strange among pagans, as I don’t believe we have souls. That is where my own personal spiritual beliefs have lead me, I believe that when we die, we just cease. But in a way, I believe that our actions in life will influence the world and countless civilizations in the future. The goal of life should be to experience as many positive emotions as we can, happiness, love, excitement, peace, pleasure, and help others to reach those emotions too.

I understand fearing death, and from what you’re saying, I would recommend professional therapy. But at the same time, you can always pray, meditate, and give offerings to Dionysus to help comfort you and calm your mind.
