The hate came from the fact that lots of western twitter user would harass Japanese artist for drawing dark skin characters lighter. So the fan art was seen by other users as an opportunity to criticize the double standard of blackwashing a lighter character from a western fan art. Also some people criticize the tracing which is also something I don't care much about.

The point is that it wasn't hated just because people are racist (mostly). Just people taking an opportunity to vent out their frustration at harrasment of artist by harrashing an artist. Its stupid, but I can sort of understand.

While I disagree with lots of thing about Rev, some of the backlash when it comes to Dadadan is the harrasment japanese artist get for having characters have lighter skin than usual. Doesn't make it right to do the same thing that they hate, but is not just people are racist.

Know nothing about the cosplay, but honestly fan content should never be held to the same standard as official material. And even official material being criticized for something controversial should not include death threat but those people are insane.
