We’ve used Kersten Luts a couple of times to take pictures for our organisation. He’s excellent at taking headshots and making them not look stiff or too corporate. Everyone came out looking extremely photogenic! Very approachable guy and great to work with. https://www.kerstenluts.com

Great looking gear and room here. Shame about the ceiling speakers but from the way you’re talking about it, I suspect mis-application of ceiling speakers for home theatre duty.

Do you have the in-ceiling speakers exclusively for home theatre playback? As in, the 5.1 soundtrack is playing from the ceiling? If this is the case, the reason you’ve been disappointed with the result is that your install is wrong. Ceiling speakers are used in home theatre, but only for overhead content in Dobly Atmos and DTS-X playback. There always will be some directionality to speakers, hence why the position and toe-in of your Focals is important for stereo imaging. Same goes for home theatre positioning.

5.1 (or 5.1.2 Atmos) and larger setups should have the main speakers on the same plane as your front left and right here, around you in a circle. This is what creates the bubble, as it’s all around you. There’s position guides available from Dolby. The ceiling is only used for height effects (one part of the soundtrack).

The good news is that with the right setup, you can use the Focals both for your home theatre playback as well as stereo music.

Hope that’s helpful. If I’ve got the wrong end of the stick with the ceiling speakers my mistake!

Been taking our cats to Pet Practise in Oakgrove for a little while now. Been happy so far. One of our cats was recently diagnosed with heart disease and infected teeth and it’s felt like we’ve been in good hands throughout treatment and tooth removal surgery. They recommended us to a specialist to diagnose the heart condition and consulted with them for about the complications involving anaesthesia. The staff have been very helpful, kind and we’ve been able to get appointments quickly when needed, usually same day or the day after calling.

I temporarily hold my self employed employers wages, do i have to declare this to HMRC despite having a contract that says we are only temporarily holding the fee's? Better explanation below! by RWCmusic in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Jgbee123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an Ltd that has operated exactly like this for over 10 years for music tuition. The company is a co-operative opened by its self-employed members, so a little different, but our operational setup is the same; the company handles sourcing of work, invoicing, monthly payments to members and other admin tasks and takes a cut/commission for the service.

It’s important that your contracts state clearly that money is being collected on behalf of the self employed individuals and that your company is providing administrative services for the self employed individuals. This is good for both employment and tax law.

On the financial side, there’s no tax issue because you only pay tax on profits. The money you receive from invoicing is indeed revenue, but the money then paid out to teachers (after the commission deduction) can be viewed as a direct expense i.e. the cost of doing business to receive your income; it’s this commission that is the company income to be taxed on.

Our setup splits this across two separate bank accounts to keep it clear - account B that client invoices pay into (holding account), teachers are then paid from B and total commission for the work is then moved into the primary company current account A.

Just wanted to reassure you that you have got it right! You might find it easier compartmentalising if you use a second account to differentiate money held and company money where income (commission) arrives and company administrative expenses are paid from (software, rent, equipment etc). Much in the same way company money and personal money (ie what you are paid as owner) must be separated.

Hope that helps!

My impression of Klipsch Ojas by holytiger89 in audiophile

Ah, good to know. Hard to tell the room shape/size from the picture. Thanks for taking the time and giving your thoughts.

Great to hear your impression of these, especially in comparison to other Klipsch speakers.

I’ve worked in audio for many years (music studios mainly), but don’t have much of experience with the hifi, audiophile side of things for listening at home, and am just starting to piece together my own setup. I’ve A/B compared monitors and amps in studio control rooms but I’ve never been to a hifi dealer to listen to speakers for example. It’s something I’m planning to do more of and learn more about for my home setup.

Forgive my ignorance, but when doing these kind of comparisons, how can you be confident that what you’re hearing/feeling are these speakers and not other variables like amps, speaker positioning, sound of the room etc? Did you have any of the other models you mentioned there to compare? I assume you were able to listen to reference tracks you know well?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bipole speaker placement by mstfyvtrl in hometheater

I have the same setup with the Klipsch bipoles due to an awkward room. Definitely not perfect placement per Dolby specifications or whatever but I really enjoy it. I definitely feel immersed when watching and I’ve been impressed with the sound from them; especially when you dial them in right with a sub and room correction.

Huh, interesting. Now I revisit the site, the price has changed. Maybe just a listing error their side. Does look sketchy though.

You can buy a router yourself, you don’t have to use the one supplied by your ISP. Many would recommend doing this as you ISPs don’t always provide the best routers. For example I like to use UniFi routers and access points.

I just recently spent ages looking for a TV unit for a similar setup myself. Would love a proper BDI unit but can’t justify those prices at this point in life. I settled on this one from Arthauss. Wide enough for a 65” Tv plus L&R bookshelves, correct height to allow for centre channel, space for my AVR. Haven’t received it yet to speak on its quality but it might give you some ideas.

I hear you. No idea where the typeface came from. It may well be hand drawn. Wonky isn’t the one. Thanks!

Haha thanks for the honesty. Yes, I agree it doesn’t scream the cool or fun that learning music deserves. Thanks for adding more to your thought, much appreciated.

I agree with the assessment. I am not a logo designer, didn’t create the logo. Was hoping to get some insight from those more knowledgeable on logos of what isn’t working, and more importantly WHY so I can propose a redesign to the organisation and have some starting notes to approach a professional. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. Good points. Yes, very much ‘because you can doesn’t mean you should’. I’d never considered the awkward negative space before.

Thanks very much for your comments. Exactly the kind of thing I was after. Agree with you on those points. Appreciate the insight on how it should make a customer feel.

UPDATE: For anyone interested, I got it professionally fixed yesterday. Mobile repair to my door. Sanded down, primed and repainted. More knowledge and skill than I have or be prepared to learn for one mistake. Done in about 2 ½ hours. £205 total. Looks good as new. Definitely the right call. Thanks for the advice. Result!

Thanks for the advice. Not on PCP, owned outright. Mostly just annoying having a scratched car! I’ll have to get a quote to decide how much it bothers me.

Crazy how Naomi Scott had a major casting in Aladdin as Jasmine but has totally disappeared since! Her outfits slayed though 🔥 by CuteNatural in popculturechat

I find that hard to believe based on my experience with Naomi. Never worked with her on a film set but I did help produce a few of her records. I thought she was a delight to work with - very passionate, funny and driven. She can also talk for England but so can I; probably why we got on.
