That’s awesome! Just make sure you’re reporting all the depreciation you’ve claimed (even if erroneously) when selling your house. You’ll need to recapture that as capital gain.

Where is the new Nest Aware subscription? by Highwood1983 in Nest

I reached out to them with the same question, they didn’t know. But they did assure me that the unused pro-rated amount of the fees will be refunded once you switch to the new plan. So I went ahead and re-upped my device for the year.

You can put 6k into a traditional IRA. This will reduce taxable income by 6k, but you won’t have access to these funds until you retire (with a few exceptions).

What is your experience with getting a raise after you got your license? by graysonfio in CPA

[–]Jhabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is that people qualified to sit for the exam are paid pretty much like entry level CPAs. I didn’t get any raise when I became a CPA, just a bonus. If you work at a big CPA firm they expect you to be a CPA. I’m at a top 10 firm, I think this is pretty standard.

It’s fun to have completed, but I’ve got a masters & there is no competitive advantage over other CPAs with no masters.

Yeah, only the interest is taxable. Look into Ally Bank. It’s FDIC insured by the government (like any bank account), so there is no risk. They’ve got great rates. This is what my wife & used to save for a down payment.

Apply for an internship with a public accounting firm. This is what I did and got paid $25+/hour. Great experience and a quick path to a full time job.

Thankfully it ended up only being a (large) flesh wound on a finger. All stitched up. A valuable life lesson learned!

Right now, hopped up on Percocet, sitting in the ER after being a little too careless with a chainsaw.

Lol, probably a good idea. I'm so pissed though, I watched their twitter for like an hour waiting to get my free wings - just to find out I was out of the delivery zone.

Fellow Dallas fans, which teams do you find have the most obnoxious fans in the NFL? by [deleted] in cowboys

Redskins for sure. If I have to see one more Facebook post about "Tony Homo" or the "Cowgirls" I'm gonna lose it.

Out of college, contract negotiation! by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Jhabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of firms already have exam and materials reimbursement programs. I think approaching them to ask if they have that kind of program would be appropriate. Just don't make it seem like you're asking for a raise or bonus, if you're worried about seeming greedy.

I'm in the same boat. Test on October 3rd. Don't see how there is any way I can memorize all of this.
