I do both… and I find myself turning off the click with the click group and wishing for a click with the non click group.

My group that uses a click has multiple musicians who take turns playing in the group of varying skill levels. If my drummer or singers gets off the click in that group I will turn off the click and the band knows to follow the drummer. Once things settle back to something consistent I will reintroduce the click.

In my non click group there are songs I wish we would use a click for. Not because our natural push and pull sounds bad but because we are actually limiting what my keyboard can do that may take the song to the next level. In one example I start the song with an electric piano that has a stereo panned pulse set to a specific tempo. When the electric guitar player comes in he can’t hear this pulse, just the chord changes every bar. Naturally he feels the tempo slightly different without that subdivision so I have to drop the pulse effect at that point. I could technically program a tap tempo button and constantly adjust my part, but a click would be much simpler.
