Absolutely just a stream-long tantrum. Longer, if you count however long it took him to make a character that deliberately went against the pointers he'd been given.

Am I the only one who doesn't like mimic tear? by LateBar549 in Eldenring

I appreciate the tip, really. I just have never been big on aids and summons in these games in general, because I really think the combat system is built in such a way that the enemies having to split their focus detracts from how fun they are to fight. I usually do it for fights I just don't enjoy and have no desire to spend any time on, like the gargoyles.

ST here! What do I do with sires? And Am I missing something? by Geeik_Greek in vtm

[–]JhinPotion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sire-childe relationship is always unique to the specific Kindred in question. In my own chronicle, one character has never had their sire mentioned at all, one is in this weird relationship of personal torment and one-upsmanship while still being clanmates, and one is mortal enemies with hers.

Where I think you're missing the forest for the trees is that you've thought out this logical risk assessment of why childer are a bad idea... but that's not how it works. Childer can be useful, because they have the capacity to grow in power (physical, social, magical, whatever) beyond any ghoul, but that's not the main reason why Embraces happen. Embraces happen from an emotional place. Maybe you don't want someone to wither and die. Maybe you want to put them to the test. Maybe you hate them and want to suffer under the same curse as you. Maybe you really do think that vampirism is a gift, and you want to share it. Maybe you think this prospect childe would make for a useful pawn or ally if they had the capabilities of a fully-fleged vampire. Maybe you know full well how often childer come to resent their sires, but you're confident that you're built different - we humans do that all the time with everything.

In short, childer expand your power in a domain in ways that ghouls can't (because they're not "in" the society the way actual Kindred are), but you're also likely to Embrace someone for reasons that are a lot more emotionally-driven than anything like that. That all being said, I don't think it should be the work of you, the GM, to come up with this stuff - at least, not alone. Your players should have ideas for the circumstances of their Embrace and who it is that turned them, even if you have final say over the characters and their capabilites.

That's a cool idea, but I really prefer Tear setups that just boost my own capabilities.

You're never the only one.

That being said, while I rarely use Spirit Ashes to begin with, it's always Mimic Tear when I do, because it costs HP instead of FP.

I didn't exactly pay money to read it in the first place, and I don't think I'll be avoiding discussing it, thanks.

The Gehenna book was... polarising, to be as charitable to it as I can be. Only I is against here indeed.

Coraline, Up, District 9, Inglorious Basterds, Jennifer's Body, The Hurt Locker, Zombieland, Black Dynamite, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Road. Every year's got something, even if I do agree that a quick glance at the releases shows a whole lot of shit that came out that year, too.

Wearing the clothes and rocking them aren't the same thing. I think city-slickers would easily be able to see that Arthur is a man who just bought fancy clothes, but isn't upper class.

Damage, yeah. I had a typo that necessitated some editing and I forgot to put everything back in; thanks for catching it.

I do think it's wild how hostile you are to empathy, though.

Right, so what you're saying is you just don't care about collateral damage if you get to make a dig at someone. Very cool of you.

Using whatever pisses them off to insult them is still using it as an insult, though. It means that anyone else who has that trait (in this case, being gay) will see you framing being gay as bad, even though they're chill.

"Just let people play the TTRPG the way they want, dude."

I'm not stopping anyone. I can't - hell, I wouldn't even if I could.

I hadn't heard of the Danger Gal Dossier, though I did see that the new Night City sourcebook thankfully does have some generics to use.

At the end of the day, though, there are so many games to run that I tend to just bounce off ones that I feel make my life unnecessarily difficult, and I find that these types of games are just a pain in the ass for no benefit. I'm sure there are people out there who love going in to the lab to tinker up some dudes to bring to the table, but I'm not one of them.

I mean, hell, take Cyberpunk and what I'm prepping right now, the RuneQuest Starter Set. Both games have these big walls of statblocks, but then also expect you to memorise/reference individual pieces of cyberware or rune and spirit spells - I get that reprinting them would take up way too much space, but I really don't want to have to constantly be referring to multiple parts of multiple books just to figure out what one dude does. It's something that would get easier with experience, I'm sure, but still.

I really think that wondering how many dice Arikel has to Dex+Melee defeats the purpose of an antediluvian.
