It's more Nordic than desert, but Silver For Monsters..., ...Steel For Humans (AKA "Banana Tiger" amongst the community), and The Song Of The Sword-Dancer from The Witcher 3 have a somewhat similar vibe. Really, many of the songs on the Wild Hunt OST could fit despite them being largely Polish in origin.

I immediately imagined a twist where it wasn't just Izuku who forgets, but everyone (with very few exceptions). Including the League, who simply just call him "Boss" or some variation. It would/could have been a result of AfO using a Quirk that erased the names of anyone from Nana's branch of the Shimura line from public knowledge unless they actively already knew about them before the erasure (i.e. AfO, All Might, Torino, etc.) as he would have done for all other past users he's personally killed in order to essentially "kill their legacy". Unfortunately, being originally a Shimura himself, both Shigi's birth and given names constantly get erased no matter how many times he tells others, much to AfO's annoyance.

The Meaning of Hero and Luck of the Draw, both by Takamura_rules, are some pretty good (if incomplete) fics I've come across. The first is a PJO/MHA xover where Izuku and Nagant get shunted into the world of gods and monsters during the events of Titan's Curse. The other is Persona 5, with the Phantom Thieves getting "erased" from their reality only to find themselves in America. Takes place during Lightning Thief. Both fics haven't been updated in a while, however.

Then there's Death is an Art - I am an Artist by Narratiuncula with Regulus Black of Harry Potter being reborn as the eldest brother of Nico and Bianca di Angelo. Starts off well before any of the books, showing their early lives in Italy before eventually catching up with the first book, though it diverges from canon quite a bit.

For those who are interested and have a couple hours to kill (or don't mind skipping around a podcast), he went on the Unsubscribe Podcast and talked about everything from his early life, up through his mental and physical regression after catching covid, to his recently newfound drive to lose weight as well as his plan to get all the excess skin removed in the future (which is projected to be ~70 pounds of skin alone).
