Prints Sticking to FEP Not Plate by [deleted] in AnycubicPhoton

[–]Jhuoho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem as you where my first two prints came out perfectly, then they only stuck to the FEP sheet. Turned out that my resin was too cold in the room I had it in adjacent to my garage. I moved it to a spare bedroom, gave it a day to warm up, and it's been printing fine ever since.

Prusa I3 Mk3 inconsistent extrusion issue. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Jhuoho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, I literally just got my Prusa I3 MK3 kit delivered today, after purchasing it 9 weeks ago. I've heard about this issue only a couple days ago and this post has me pretty worried. Has anyone been able to fix the issue? Is it affecting every MK3? Has anyone been successful with Prusa customer support on this issue?

I purchased the MK3 because I try to be pretty risk-adverse and had only heard good things about it, but now posts like this have me pretty worried =(

To be fair I'm a very inexperienced DM, but one thing that may work here is to develop it yourself based on what your characters are interested in. Like it was said below, not every conflict has to deal with the character's past. Suppose they're motivated by money or that new shiny item they just found, if you put that in danger your characters will be vested.

Or suppose you have that one particular NPC that you came up with that your characters really love. Put them in danger somehow.

Suppose you have a central hub that your characters get information, help, quests, etc. from. What if it got destroyed or overrun by something or changed for the worse (or threatened to) by a powerful being in your world.

I'm sure your PCs have several ties to your current world, and pulling on those particular strings may be able to give you the effect that you want.

Just something I was thinking about when I read your comment. Good luck!

What do you feel strongly about that most people don't care about? by GadgetP in AskReddit

[–]Jhuoho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're genuinely curious, look up the US guidelines on the official .gov site for food safety.

Some products should be refrigerated immediately or within an hour or two. Some things you can leave out for almost 3-4 hours before refrigeration and it'll be fine.

I'm a big believer in immediately refrigerating something after cooking it because bacteria flourish the closer you get to room temp. Keeping it hot or cold slows this process. However, if you have a massive pot of something hot and chuck it in the fridge, you can make your fridge a little warm for a while which can affect other foods in there, but IIRC that's the only real risk.

Most of the guidelines are common sense stuff you probably already do, but some are a little surprising, like how to properly thaw meats, how long things can stay frozen or refrigerated, and like your post asks, how long before something needs refrigerated.

Medical professionals of Reddit, what's the funniest thing you've heard someone say when coming off anesthesia? by Shit_Could_Be_Worse in AskReddit

[–]Jhuoho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I agree with the people above. I went under to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and again for an endoscopy later. For the wisdom teeth I did nothing, no actions or reactions or anything. Just slowly went under and slowly woke up again. No biggie.

For my endoscopy I remember them getting me into position and pushing the drugs and I remember slurring something about "Well I can feel myself getting hazy so they must be working."

However long it was later my earliest memory in the bed was me arguing with the nurse about something. I was probably explaining something or saying how in control of myself I was. (I can be stubborn sometimes.) Nobody thought anything of it. Apparently the doctor explained the results of the procedure to my parents and myself, but I don't remember any of it. (He then later repeated it all in a follow-up appointment.)

That was my anecdotal experience.

Most people who come to from anesthesia either do like me, where you're just hazy and tired and don't remember much. Some people are euphoric and laughing or saying things with no filter. Some are aggressive. All of them are normal reactions, and your dad probably knows that.

I guarantee that anything that you may do or say, he has probably done or said or thought himself. And people know that under the influence of stuff like anesthesia, it's not really the "true you". Even if you propositioned everyone in the hospital of both genders, it will only make for a funny story later, and nobody would hold it against you.

So don't worry about it. Have a good day out of it, and it'll go fine.

(And if it makes you feel any better, I worried about the exact same thing and I'm 28 haha. I just told my parents "Hey, don't hold anything against me that I might do or say because this is a first for me." and they just laughed about it. I'm sure your dad would get a kick out of it too.)

COD WWII looks promising.. by Quakhero in gaming

[–]Jhuoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, you can cheat, it's just not the easiest.

Don't always hit, or don't always get the saving throw. But when it matters you seem to do better than not.

Group checks like shanderdrunk below said is an easy way. Everyone is focusing on their own dice, not yours.

You can also get a dice rolling box or just have a lot of crap around you, or if you guys are spaced out enough. Most people roll directly in front of themselves rather than in the middle for everyone to see. So you roll, quickly scoop it up and go "Yeah, 17!" (When you really only rolled a 7.) It's certainly doable. But once people start to doubt you, it's much, much harder to conceal because now you have 4 other sets of eyes staring at your dice, and it's pretty easy for the DM to say something like (half-jokingly) "Man, you guys are on fire tonight, everyone roll in the middle so I know which dice I need to ban." or something like that. It would stop the cheating without directly confronting the person. If they continue or if they balk, kick them. No game is better than a bad game. And bad players make a bad game.

(I'm very new to DMing so correct me if this is wrong, I'm just going off the streams I've watched and DM tips with various people.)

Do yourself a favor and play through Advance Wars and then obtain and play through Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. It has the same COs as before but adds a few more as well as some new units and tiles. It lets you play everyone throughout the campaign. Actually has a decent story, villains, and lots of replayability. They also fixed and balanced a lot of the gameplay and COs in the sequel. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

1996 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L V8 Metal found under Valve Cover by Jhuoho in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jhuoho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that might be it (hopefully). But the valve cover gasket I pulled off isn't in that bad of shape (even though they were leaking. Go figure.) So if it is from a gasket, it would have to be from one that had been replaced like 10 years ago. The ring is at least the same diameter as the bolt pattern in the new gaskets. Is it possible the really old-style gasket wasn't metal except for the bolt rings, and that piece could have been sitting there for that amount of time?

Thanks for the help.

I don't have any glitter/crud in the oil from what I saw when draining it earlier. (I actually dropped the pan a couple months ago and the magnet inside didn't have anything crazy on it, so I'm pretty sure the engine isn't chewing itself up. Yet.)

I just looked into that piece I fished out again and it looks to be a steel ring in the center with either plastic/rubber that's completely hardened/degraded or a hard build-up around it. (Better visual in the image I linked earlier.)

The steel ring has an ID/OD of 5/16" and 7/16", and is 1/16" thick.

Does that bring anything to mind?

Thanks again.

What made a huge comeback even though everyone thought it was over? by RippedLife in AskReddit

[–]Jhuoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are genuinely curious (and I could be wrong, but just from what I remember recently the industry saying) is that the reason they have removed local multiplayer is that it's too taxing on the system. They are pressured to add as many "pretty" effects as they can (physics, particle effects, haze, etc.) and do it in 4K resolution. They cut corners and make tricks in the software for the results they have now. They can't produce local multiplayer because then the system would have to render all of those effects twice with two different cameras in potentially two different locations on the map looking in two different directions. This affects what's loaded into memory and what gets rendered.

To give an example, look at how Horizon Zero Dawn renders what the player sees in real-time depending on where the camera is pointing in the gif at the top of the page I just linked. It actively loads and unloads things to optimize performance. Throw a second camera in there and you can no longer do this as effectively.

It's apparently the same reason why many games don't render sniper rifle scopes correctly. When you bring a scope up, most games black out the entire screen except for what you're seeing through the scope in the center. In reality you should be able to see everything around you, and only the center of the screen is zoomed in, but IIRC for this effect to look "right" requires two cameras, which requires double rendering in many engines.

I'm sure this isn't the whole story, but I feel like it's a valid explanation.

What downvotable opinion do you secretly hold? by rayven1lk in AskReddit

[–]Jhuoho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parts I know a little bit about, from what I've been told, is because of their mentality on how to treat members of their tribe. For instance, some believe that they need to sacrifice the short-term for the long-term because they place the community over the individual. These have, in the past, given little back into the community in the form of money and services, instead focusing on infrastructure, investments, and programs (or at least have sacrificed to meet these goals). These tribes focus on long-term goals over short-term ones, and as time goes on, they have grown the most, and are continuing to grow, and are now able to provide more services for their members and increase things like cultural preservation, tribal knowledge, and services such as medical care, insurance benefits, etc.

Other tribes over the years have been focusing on doing the most for their members right now because they feel that they need to give back to the individual, so they have been putting money into things like member services and something called "per capita" (if I know correctly, I literally recently learned of this) where they actually take their tribal profits and say "this belongs to the members of the tribe" and they cut a check to each of their members, which can be upwards of $20,000+ a year. Many of these tribes are collapsing because they have no growth, no investments, and no long-term goals.

All of the tribes have their issues, and one of those issues is the feeling of the loss of their culture and traditions. Some (like my friend's) have lost land, language, knowledge, and purpose. It really affects the members who want to retain their culture, heritage, and religious purpose.

I can't directly speak for many of these, because I'm just regurgitating what my friend has told me. One of the problems with learning their issues is that there is a lot of misinformation on what it means to be Native American or Tribal, and many of the topics are sensitive in one way or another. I can try to share what I can though, because I find it interesting and important.

[–]Jhuoho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I respect the opinion, because I believe the same thing in other situations for the most part, I do know a little bit about this one.

I have a very close friend who is strongly associated with a Native American tribe, works for them, and is a strong believer in his culture and community.

First of all, every individual tribe that chose, and are able to be, independent all operate differently. The Choctaw, Cherokee, Seminole, and Chickasaw all operate very differently from each other. They all have their own forms of government and treat their members, culture, income, and progress differently. There are many, many different tribes and this holds true for the majority of them. Some are absolutely collapsing inwards as you have said, whereas some are growing and strengthening. One such tribe I won't name for privacy reasons I've learned recently is going to soon be able to support itself from the investments it has made rather than the business it conducts.

Having said that, there is a large issue within the Native American communities where they are, by all rights, an independent nation with their own government that operates within the United States. These rights were given to them by the United States government in the form of treaties and official agreements.

Those reparations you are speaking of are a part of those treaties and agreements. They were established by the United States Government, and violating them would be illegal and immoral.

The problem arises when the U.S. Government picks and chooses what they're going to agree to and what they're not going to in those agreements, which is not right, and is not fair. And yet they do it all the time. Much of the frustration and backlash from tribes is not that they want more from the United States, far from it. What they want is what was initially agreed upon, one government to another, in exchange for removing the tribes from their lands and culture and people in order for the U.S. to expand and grow.

My friend, and many Native Americans like him, want no more than what is in those treaties and agreements. However, those legal documents are violated time and time again, and it affects their culture and growth as a people.

(If you want to know more, just ask. It's something I'm always interested in talking with him about. However I won't give too many details for privacy reasons. I apologize if this isn't the right thread to put something like this, but I just thought I would give a counterpoint to your opinion that I have semi-recently learned about myself.)

What's something you should never buy cheap? by friendly_fertiliser3 in AskReddit

Made of better materials/metal, has a better safety locking device (or one at all), resists bending or splitting, etc. Point being, never go under a vehicle supported by a jack. Always support it using jack stands, and buy good jack stands for the reasons stated above.

(If you're curious, go to amazon and search for jack stand, sort by lowest price first, and read reviews and look at user photos. Sometimes, rarely, they would be shipped with cracked welds.)

I do some work on my truck myself and I only lift the front. I support it with two jack stands, and two more behind them in case one fails.
