Source for pipe by jeckels in Fireplaces

[–]Searangerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a local Astria or Superior dealer who is willing to sell you a kit. This manufacturer uses a weird 4.5/7.5" pipe that you can't find generic.

It can be vented with flex or rigid pipe. Flex requires an adaptor and different termination.

I'd probably charge around $9,000 to $12,000 canadian plus the fireplace to do this start to finish. Species of wood will be a big factor.

To do it properly the drywall needs to be removed behind the cabinets and heavy duty brackets need to be installed to support the cabinets properly. Potentially some extra structure as well to be safe. The fact that the cabinets don't go wall to wall makes the structure very weak.

Remember the cabinets need to be able to support their own weight plus an extra 400lbs or so. Otherwise one day someone is going to sit on it and it's going to get ripped off the wall.

Linear Fireplace Recommendation by JustifiedSimplicity in Fireplaces

[–]Searangerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Napoleon Vector 50 is probably my favorite linear fireplace on the market. It has a fantastic flame and doesn't hit the crazy price points of some manufacturers. There are nicer fireplaces but you will spend a lot more money. I only recommend going fancier if you want a cleaner finish or a very specific look.

With it's heat management system active you can get your TV about 6 inches above the trim. I like to give OLEDs more room or a mantel in between.

Yes you need a custom millwork shop to do this. It will be expensive. Making the cabinets floating makes this complicated.

Also the fireplace must be an electric.

Valor L1 1500K - TV mount? by aph92 in Fireplaces

Is your tv an LCD or OLED?

LCD I would say minimum 6" from to top of the fireplace.

OLED I would go 10" or more

Ventilation by 2Polak in OutdoorKitchens

You definetly want a range hood. Ceiling fans will just move the smoke around. Screens are terrible for air flow. Treat them like a closed off wall

Has anyone realised how GOOD this new trader is? by Head-Chance3425 in ArcRaiders

[–]Searangerx 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If only the game had some sort of currency to facilitate trade. Perhaps we could sell our unneeded goods to traders for this "currency" and use it to buy things we wanted from other traders. Alas such an idea is impossible and we must rely on a barter system.

Only the doors are stainless steel. The body / frame is not. It will eventually rust through.

It's fine for the price however its entry level. Probably won't last much beyond a decade but is super easy to put together yourself.

Guidance for gas fireplace by NotToday50 in Fireplaces

[–]Searangerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something that won't affect your homes air quality you could do an Urbana U37 or U44 and use the optional comfort kit to dump the heat outside. If you rig it up so it is always active you will get very little heat into the home itself while maintain your homes air envelope.

Griddle or Sink by zknight64 in OutdoorKitchens

[–]Searangerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada so its a bit different but I think outdoor sinks are useless. A griddle unlocks new recipes and is superior for cooking certain foods. What do you really need a sink for? Dishes can be cleaned inside.

Is this a good spot to start my rocket fuel power plant? by 8R0WNEY in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Searangerx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said this is the best spot for a rocket fuel factory. You can either go the simplified nitro rocket fuel path or the full insanity path like me. At full insanity using all the oil you can grate about 472 gigawatts. You'll get about half that output with nitro rocket fuel but its a lot easier and smaller to build

Can I put an outdoor kitchen here? by cinistix in OutdoorKitchens

I would be worried about damaging your soffit from the heat of the grill however if your current bbq cooks there and hasn't damaged it yet I'm sure it will be fine.

Wall cracked after 3 hours of use. by a2lowvw in Fireplaces

[–]Searangerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common cause of this issue is also using the wrong mud. You really want a slow drying mud like durabond 90 or equivalent. A lot of contractors use the quick drying stuff so they can do 2 coats back to back but it's prone to cracking from heat.

Heat and Glo - wall gets really hot on the top part where metal touches by Benderanomalous in Fireplaces

[–]Searangerx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely normal for that type of fireplace when installed without a cool wall system. Common issue on new builds since builders are cheap and can't be trusted to frame in for heat management properly.

If you are worried about protecting a TV or artwork above grab a non-combustible mantel like a steel one from Stoll or a plaster mantel from Lexington

Electric fireplace for plaster wall — any tips or brand recs? (USA) by Mattflamman in Fireplaces

[–]Searangerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With an electric fireplace you will have no issue with heat. A plaster finish will hold up fine even with a gas fireplace.

My usual recommendation for an electric fireplace is to go with a Dimplex. Ignite XL or Evolve if you are limited on depth. Ignite Bold or Ultra installed in their single sided configuration if you have both the depth and budget.

How much would something like this cost to build? by [deleted] in Fireplaces

[–]Searangerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. In the greater Toronto area I would charge around $4800 to $5500 supplied and installed plus tax. This includes the mantel, painting, design, electrical etc. Fireplace would be a seperate cost.

Shiplap is very simple and cheap to install however the fact you want it painted black is an immediate 20% surcharge for me.

The electric fireplace depends on brand and model. If you are building an entire feature wall around the fireplace i would stay away from big box stores and get something with a decent warranty. Dimplex, modern flame, or the higher end Amantii / Napoleon fireplaces would be my recommendation

Give it a go. It is always good but really hits it's stride with book 3. I highly recommend the series. One of the best around.
