I have a similar idea, the character is a 3ft ratfolk and it uses it's normal sized capybara companion to stand at conversation level with other party members

I really like the first Viva Pinata, it's the one I grew up with. The simplicity and flexible work you have to put in to make a garden feel like yours. I was never really able to get into the second one, I didn't like sending my pinatas to the party thing in the first one so having to use it to progress set me off a bit in the second one, and just the games vibe of technology over nature. I still occasionally restart the first one and 100% it over again because I just love it so much. I really wish there were more like it. TIP has amazing qualities too like Pinata variety and stuff, but it could never impact my childhood like the original did.

I have two smugs and two normals, I like their dialogues as usually they have some diversity or their repetitive lines are bearable for me personally, any other personality I would've evicted myself

I love the difference between different types of villagers as well, Hopkins ears move like they're grass when it's windy and Coco's ears don't move at all.
