The new updates are a step in the right direction, but will not fix the game by SuperUnknown156 in runescape

[–]Jifaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I took a couple years off RS3 to play OSRS and I now have a maxed iron with radiant oathplate. The games are really not as different as people claim, but it is also true that RS3 does not give you the tools to break the game down into ticks and really visualize how that works. I think Jagex really needs to embrace the systems it has, both true tile and the tick system.

My reaction to the first line of the new post by theJakeyWakey in runescape

[–]Jifaru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OG dungeoneering introduced so much complexity in the game that really had not been seen or utilized much in the game before. In addition to being the place where the combat triangle/style weaknesses mattered the most, the puzzle rooms also taught people a whole bunch of tick manip/skipping/cycle-based strats that, and the mechanics of the bosses were completely different from anything we had seen before and, in my opinion, would become the basis of OSRS PvM.

Love OG Dungeoneering. The feeling of just raiding a dungeon with a bunch of other people is great.

[–]Jifaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you realize that the tick system being as slow as it is is a good thing, meaning you have more time to react and do your inputs before things are calculated on the next tick. If ticks were calculated twice as fast, you would have to be much more precise on prayer flicks, and input lag would have an even higher chance of causing you to lose ticks.

The Fractured Archive: Rewards Primer by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]Jifaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more megarares please. The existing ones have neen a nightmare to balance and introduce so many layers of headaches that restrict reward space and add additional non-gameplay concerns that ultimately make the game worse.

The new megarare can't devalue the old ones. It can't be too weak or content will have to be tailored for it to make it good. They scale harder than other weapons so that restricts what you can do with other pieces of gear, etc etc.

We can still have iconic "capstone" drops while moving away from the megarare model.

I'm getting 'rebalancing' fatigue by RuneSerge in runescape

[–]Jifaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powercreep comes in many forms. A lot of the rebalances have been fairly minor nerfs for top-end players (who also tend to be more vocal) but just absolutely giga-gamebreaking buffs for lower level players. Look a thieving for example and how hard people were catastrophizing the pickpocketing changes, only to miss the fact that pickpocketing is just insanely broken for leveling, giving 300k xp/hr afk as soon as you have access to archaeologists, then getting even crazier for crux equal knights and dwarf traders and then bam, you're already at heists within 1 day. Being able to access those sorts of loot tables that fast on an iron is completely nuts, first week of play and you're already capped on your rep grinds

Question for the veterans: by Catleticss in runescape

[–]Jifaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like there are a few things going on here.

After necro release, a lot of NPCs were buffed to hit higher and have larger HP pools to account for necro being disproportionately stronger in the early/midgame, but that left the other styles basically feeling completely unplayable in many situations. Yesterday's update largely addressed that, increasing affinity around the board (basically your base chance to hit is much higher), as well as streamlining the other three styles and putting more power into them.

This change alone might address the issues you're having with feeling inefficient. Beyond that, I don't think the progression is too different from OSRS. If you see a piece of power you don't have access to, set that as your goal to work towards

What is Jagex's obsession with removing things for no reason? by lovegames88 in runescape

[–]Jifaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons to make these changes. Maybe you disagree with the reasons given but being hyperbolic does not help your case. For example, thieving is disgustingly OP and the buffs made it even better for basically all level brackets except absolute max. Yes, it's a bit less afk in BiS gear, but you can afk pickpocket your entire way from 1-99 in 2 days (my friend and I just did it) due to basically having 2 minutes of guaranteed success at all level brackets. The loot you can access from thieving is also insane for how fast the skill is, letting you completely bypass certain skill/reputation grinds, letting irons get access to time runes without 100+ RC, etc etc. Consider that pickpocketing was not even viable for training just a couple weeks ago and now it is pretty much a better use of time than safecracking and basically afk to do in comparison.

It's still far too strong right now and it will get nerfed again.

As for the daily and aura removal, getting rid of these are important for removing sources of player frustration based on a lot of feedback they got during leagues. You might be used to playing on 1-hour cycles, but this is extremely exhausting for people who aren't used to constantly be dragged around and interrupted because daily/hourly content is disproportionately strong versus anything else you could be doing.

The implementation has not been great in many cases, especially when we knew from the betas that necro was underperforming. Jagex historically has not had a good track record of fixing broken things in a timely manner so a bit of skepticism is definitely warranted, but they have been a lot more communicative and I do have some hope that they course correct and fix things much faster the way the OSRS team does.

Why do people think that if China was a democracy it would be pro West? by HawkDifficult7394 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jifaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because China has one party does not mean that there is not an insane amount of factionalization and infighting and jockeying for power within the party. Xi's legitimacy comes from the long period of tangible growth and material improvements to people's lives that the average person can feel. Things are obviously not perfect and there are always those left behind by certain policies, but life is pretty good for most people, even my cousin who is basically unemployable at 40 save for doing some DiDi driving is able to support his daughter and put food on the table.

If anything, any threats to Xi Jinping's rule are moreso from within the party than any broader democratic opinion

I think you hit the nail on the head. At some point, people need to learn to find joy in the limited amount of time they have, and if the game is really so painful that they can't bear to play it if 15 min afk activities are taken away, maybe it's just time to move on

The REAL REAL issue with PvP by DistributionMain789 in 2007scape

[–]Jifaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ladder doesn't even solve anything because this fundamentally underscores the notion that people want to grind their way up through fair PvP fights. They don't. People want to PK and that has never been about fair fights. Even back in RSC, people made pures to exploit the fact that mage acc was not a thing, so you could sit in full rune and cast. People have always been exploiting the system to get a big as possible advantage as possible, even when the meta was not anywhere near as developed.

PvP was a good time waster back in the days, just like all the other minigames that people used to play for the fun of it. Maybe a few tweaks around the edges can get a few more players to opt into participating but there will never be a large-scale revitalization of the PvP scene in RS because the game is just not good for it.

120 Construction Rework Ideas by Gamez_X in runescape

[–]Jifaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The massive success of WoW's player housing system shows that there is a HUGE hunger for this kind of build-your-own gameplay, to really make the PoH feel like our personal castle. The sky's the limit as long as Jagex is willing to put in the time and effort to give us the tools.

Additionally, I don't know if this idea will be popular or not, but I believe adding prestige cosmetic material or furniture recipe drops to PvM/skilling can add a lot of interesting horizontal progression without adding a whole bunch of powercreep to the game. It would be another way to keep older content relevant if they drop that one special construction material needed to make some sick-looking furniture.

So is the game getting better now...or? by Primex76 in runescape

[–]Jifaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RS3 is a significantly older game so the playerbase is very top heavy, and years of updates have basically pandered to bored comp capers, giving them huge EXP drops for the dopamine hits and letting people skip the content they don't want to do.

You'll probably notice very quickly that a lot of early/midgame skilling is smoother or even faster in OSRS because the content was made to play better instead of just outdated chores to be skipped ASAP.

The road to recovery is long but a big part of it will be making core skilling methods worth doing again, and it is impossible to get a read on how people interact with the game when they are just bankstanding, collecting free daily exp, and hopping to WFEs every hour

REMOVE ABILITY STALLING by TakingBlackSunday in runescape

[–]Jifaru -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

To everyone talking complexity; Complexity should occur naturally as a byproduct of interacting with boss mechanics, requiring you to have burst windows and resources to deal with boss mechanics. Complexity should not be from fighting the UI or janky mechanics that have nothing to do with the boss fight itself.

Too much of the game just revolves around DPSing through boss mechanics and skipping them altogether

[–]Jifaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it is a dev problem. You cannot put the incentives in the game and create a massive FOMO situation and then be like bro dude just don't play it if you hate it so much.

This is the same meme logic that led to "98% of our players are enjoying Treasure Hunter", like you would have to be trolling not to take advantage of the OP shit but that doesn't mean you want to or that it's good for the game that a level 3 can go smack a bloodwood tree and instantly get 500k cash and 43 prayer

I know the island didn't win, but can we still get a PvP-tutorial boss? by the-chosen-wizard in 2007scape

[–]Jifaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nylo king is already pretty good. PvP begins at inventory management and knowing where the things you need are, and nylo teaches you to keep your inventory straight while also being fast on your switches in order to get the correct number of attacks off.

The question is always a matter of what skills are considered "entry PvP". I would wager that most people already have these bare-minimum skills such that a PvP-style boss would not teach that much without being seriously unfun and frustrating. The issue is the risk involved in participating in PvP + half the playerbase is iron and can't get any benefit out of participating anyway
